this post was inspired by "Diablos" by Louis Logic f/ Celph Titled. I'm not familiar w/ Celph Titled, but man does he say nigga. On that track he says nigga about twenty five times, in his rhymes and ad-libbing in the background. He sounds like he's tryin' ta get jumped or something. Besides gettin' me heated some, it made me think. I know that alot of white rappers use nigga when they speak, but very few of them use it in their rhymes. For instance, I've heard a few radio interviews with Cage, and he says nigga as often as a nigga would, but I've know of only one song in which he uses the word (Illest 4-letter Word). As a matter of fact, that applies to any white emcee on Eastern Conference, or Def Jux. What I wanna know is, do ya'll appreciate when a white rapper goes out of his way not to use the word?

you really can... white people attached it to slaves as the word 'nigger' originally meant one who is ignorant.
over time it somehow became attached to skin color.
then black people adopted it among themselves for some reason (to mock white people? to take away the stigma?)
and changed the spelling in the process.
the way i see it, anybody that uses the word without being conscious of it's history or meaning is...
a nigger, in the original sense of the word, whether they're black, white, or other color.

How can you lay claim to a god damn word. Nigga was jacked from the racist nigger, probably as parody. Than its thrown into the mainstream vernacular by every rap artist on the radio. If the word has any meaning, its probably gone from over use. Just like fuck. Fuck used to be off limits. Now everyone's fucking everything. A word can't be used left and right in pop culture and be off limits to someone. The cats outta the bag at this point. The context is what's important.

When it comes to wordplay, some people struggle and fall back on dirty slang. For others, its just a part of their everyday language. In a social context, the word nigga does not come up in white circles. But in hip hop, the word is dropped so damn much that if you memorize the flows of your favorite artists, it's bound to cross over into your flow if you're just flippin off the top of your head. It's like osmosis. There ain't no excuses here, just truth.
