"Albums with a superb closing song."

What last song from an album gave it that perfect ending like a movie or book? Nas on Undying Love from I Am and Radiohead The Tourist from Ok Computer come to mind for me.

the entire album
is the course of a stormy on again/ off again relationship.

it's bookended perfectly.

I look at it as a bonus track and something on the disc but separate from the album. "13th floor (growing old)" is the true last song and a great song to finish the album. Outkast constantly talked about their personal growth between albums and this song kinda finishes off where they are and where they want to go. And a Big Rube intro doesn't hurt either.

Usually those type of songs I listen to once or twice the whole way through and the rest of the time skip once the song part ends. But for some reason this I've listened to so many times, probably b/c Kanye can tell a story that entertaining. It's a shame he doesn't do story-telling raps anymore (IE Apologize, Drive Slow, Home) he wasn't ghostface in terms of skills by any means but defiantly spit some personal shit.

one of the few songs I really dig on that album... I skipped over it at first but that's one of the great Kanye songs.

This is one of those songs that i can't really enjoy if it pops up on the radio b/c of overexposure but if I'm listening to the album it's so amazing. Songs like these are why I prefer to listen to albums over individual songs b/c they take on a whole new feel when put into the album context.

not a fan of the rapping from Nas or Game on that song so much.
but the beat is insane, Just Blaze did his thing.
and the last minutes with Marsha & that choir is just too dope.

In response to Reply # 39

Maiden Voyage is an absolute favourite of mine, but it's from the 1965 album Maiden Voyage.

Cantaloupe Island is a compilation of Herbie's early Blue Note work.

Not sure if you want to count the entire second side Medly as one song, but even if you just include The End itself, with Ringo's drum solo, John, Paul & George all soloing on guitar. The perfect end to their final album.

an album that could have been an A+ if they let Herbie "sing" the entire album

but out of all the songs he did in this style, this one is second only to "Come Running To Me".

Both he and Patrice Rushen, duetting on a song that could very well have fit on a Quincy Jones-produced album like THRILLER, a killer electric piano solo to close out... great harmonies...

not many people know the song, but I rank it high in his catalog.

Dude always has the perfect exit track from each of his LPs.

Hell even his EPs.

from "Arise", "Phantom"

"Post Mortem" (featuring El-P, Jean Grae and Akrobatik)

"For You"

to just this year's "Dawn" .

All these tracks end their respective albums perfectly giving the listener a great over veiw of the entire project.

"True Story pt.2" definitely sounds more like the closer to the album, but since "Don't Nobody Care About Us" isn't listed as a bonus cut, that works as well.

One of the best songs ever made ever. Can't believe it took this long to be mentioned (unless I missed it).

Also:

Murs - Murray's Revenge
Andre 3k - A Life in the Day of Benjamin Andre
De La Soul - Trying People
J Dilla - Won't Do
Pink Floyd - Eclipse (another one of the best songs ever made ever).

to the pitch of the snare
in fact it's actually sharper
it just grates my nerves, along with the extra hit hits at the end of the loop

another 1997 classic-very parallel to the other 1997 classic "The Tourist" (OK Comp/Radiohead).

Most/all? of the tracks from the out of print LP/CD its from "Wolf Songs for Lambs" seem to be on youtube (for now, that is...)

He's already been mentioned a couple times, but Prince kind of owns this post:

Party Up - Dirty Mind
International Lover - 1999
Purple Rain
Sometimes It Snows In April - Parade
Adore - SOTT
Batdance - Batman (maybe not a great song, but what an ending!)

Hmmm, it seems the classic closing tracks dried up around the same time he fell off. Except maybe for Gold.

Damn, yall are really coming with it, esp DVS (Skyy, Green Eyes, The Listening, Africa, Pops Rap II (that's my favorite pops rap too))

i would say:

-Remy Shand - The Mind's Eye

-Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (song)

-Nightmares On Wax - Hey Ego! (On "Thought So" album (2008))

-Alllll of Pops' raps on Common's albums, esp the ones from 1DIWAMS & Be

-OH! Common - Heaven Somewhere (from Electric Circus 2002)

-Shuggie Otis - Freedom Flight (from Inspiration Information 1974)

-Stevie Wonder - Do I Do (from Original Musiquarian I 1982)

But the ultimate number one closing song?

Musiq Soulchild - You Be Alright. (from Aijuswanasing 2000)
THAT is the Musiq i miss.

Probably one of the most epic endings to an album I can think of.

A few others, in no particular order...

Cube - No Vasoline from Death Certificate.

Little Brother - Title track off The Listening.

Rhinestone Cowboy off that Madvillain joint.

DOOM - Kookies from Mm..Food.

U.N.K.L.E. - Rabbit In Your Headlights from the Psyence Fiction LP.

Jamiroquai - King For A Day off the Syncronized album.

Freestyle Fellowship - Pure Thought from Innercity Griots. <-- Please listen to this shit on a REAL system! Your bitch ass computer speakers do not do justice to it.

Jurassic 5 - Swing Set from Quality Control & Canto De Ossanha off the (AWFUL) Feedback Album. Most J5 albums end on a high note for me tho.

Empty Cans was a great close to the album. Definitely gave it a superb ending, but that might have something to do with it being a concept album.

- Street Spirit (Fade Out)
- The Tourist
- Motion Picture Soundtrack
- Life in a Glass House
- A Wolf at the Door
- Videotape

... that's some run, in my opinion.. but yea, some great choices above.. really like badu - green eyes, kanye - last call, common - it's your world, serge gainsbourg - cargo culte 76, prince - adore, hell, prince - purple rain, dilla - last donut/donuts (intro).. not sure which one to count, but either way, it's perfect.. actually, i think big brother was a pretty great closing to graduation, i REALLY like something in the way of things to tie up phrenology, outkast's stanklove.. it just drags on and even though the album is a marathon, you kind of don't want it to end.. i think the track really adds to that effect.. lambchop - is a woman
