"Rappers who made an appearance on a classic, then disappeared"

What rappers can you think of that made an appearance on a classic (or major) album who seemed to have disappeared after? I know a lot of them will make independent albums, and may be guests on other albums...but there are some that haven't been heard from at all since.

I know this was very common on the classic West Coast albums, particularly from the Death Row/DPG/Dre camp...they were notorious for puttin their homeboys on tracks, even though most of them came with it LOL.

Kid Hood owns this thread, but since he got killed shortly after it's really not his fault. i heard he did record a few tracks before his demise though.

Deshawn (Sunkiss) is another. him and Big L killed "Represent" on Showbiz & A.G.'s lp, then he disappeared for a long time.

Mars Co-Op is another one. duke sounded like a Ghostface clone, wrecked "Clones", then disappeared forever.

Sunkiss is my man (we share the same first name almost). He was being managed by Mark Pitts back when I was an intern and was very close with BIG PUN. He can be found on the awful second Big Pun album. After that he had a fist fight with Fat Joe over Pun after Pun died and then...nothing.

yeah i saw him on that pun lp and then heard he knuckled down joe after he slashed cuban link's face.

i know he resurfaced again in like 05 doing some crack city-esque dvd shit where he had local cats in NY battling for pussy. he would have two dudes go a few rounds and whoever won got to bang out some hoodrat. smh.

i wish duke woulda became a part of D.I.T.C. after he killed "Represent". he coulda made them so much iller and probably dropped a sick album with their production line-up.

The security guard at my HS was cool with him and was from Bronson Ave as well...he gave us his mixtape/album that ended up getting leaked a few years back online.

It was a combination of bad luck, bad timing, a bad deal with Aftermath, no personal promo skills, and much more than that.

Thing is, when we listen now, he was NOTHING near Snoop on the original Chronic, and just sounds like an average/decent rapper at best...but at the time, we were caught into the hype and felt like he was "next" to blow. But damn, most of these rappers at least make mixtapes or push something to the public just to stay around, but the majority of the public never heard ANYTHING from him.

Here's the only song most people ever heard from him after 2001...and this was leaked around 2001-2002 from Knoc's advance....

on some really small indie label. I saw the CD at Amoeba and picked it up. It wasn't bad and it included a couple of songs that Dre produced and even one that he rapped on. I still think Dre made a mistake not putting his album out. He had a lot of personality and a style that I think could have made him a star.

I don't think he claimed that any production credit. That whole album was Dre & Mel-Man and I've never heard too many other claims to counter that.

I rememeber listening to Chronic 2001 and thinking to myself 'how the fuck did Dre give this cat like 8 verses on this shit?'.

He wasn't a bad MC, just unremarkable. How you go from introducing the world to Snoop Dogg (and let's face it, he gave Snoop all that shine because Deep Cover already broke him in) to giving the world Hitman?

Shoulda just did some tracks for dude's solo and let him rap on one or two cuts.

I thought he had personality and was funny as shit. His verse on "Bitch Niggaz" was one of my favorites.

I guess that's why Dre decided to let him go but I thought he had a unique voice and an appeal that could have let him crossover. His flow wasn't too complex for the average radio fan but he was still a decent MC.

I know chiwawas that's more rah-rah......yeah, I do like that verse.

I agree he was decent, lyrically I like him better than Game.....then again Game is pretty much all voice to me.

But yeah, 'decent' when in comparison to the last album birthing a legend is the problem. Shoulda scaled back his role in that and then let Dre put his solo out (although we know how difficult that could be).

which I believe was Jay-Z and his cousin B-High's label.

Rumor has it B-High and Dame didn't get along or something and the label never got off the ground.

They had a song out around 2001 with Memphis Bleek called "What Could Be Better Bitch":

http://www.discogs.com/Da-Ranjahz-Show-Me-Love-What-Could-Be-Better-Bh/release/1371008

After that they put out an album around 2003-2004. The single was produced by DJ Premier and featured Cee-Lo.

Haven't heard anything from them since then.

I know Meth and The RZA really wanted to give him a boost, and I clearly remember talk of a full length. I don't know if the full album ever dropped, but he came out with a single under his own name, and then served some time for something.

In response to Reply # 24

we kinda grew up together and were part of the same rhyme click (Populayshun Clique). He's...still in Brownsville and while he was always nice he has regressed in his skills. He had so much promise and was pretty much a Forte' protege. For really wanted to put him on however...losing his own deal...jail time...present day.

Oh and Pikasoe was on the short lived Queen Latifah Flavor Unit label. He released a single on that label called "Knock Knock w/ a B-side "Long Chain Heavy Jesus". The latter was a real dope jam. I don't remember Knock Knock too much.

LOL Dre is notorious for that...he'll get the most random person to be on a major classic song/album, and that's the last you'll hear from them.

I'd at least think these cats would put out a Myspace saying "Six Two, who's featured on the multi platinum classic album Chronic 2001!!!"

That's Jamal from Illegal. I always liked dude alot. He had a solo album on Rowdy that was pretty dope. Official Def Squad member. I saw him last year at a Naughty By Nature show, he's still rolling with them I guess in Jerz.

Geda K was Bleek's man. He was gonna come out on Bleek's label/prod. company "Get Low" however ...it was Bleek's company.

They wound up robing Prodigy or rather Alchemist I think. That's what happened to them.

I remember hearin some hype about him too, because they were sayin he was gonna pick up where Nas left off...and they were sayin he was decent at singing (I guess good enough for hooks).

He was nice on there though, and I was thinkin he was gonna be like his 2005 AZ LOL.

They were doin interviews with her, and she was sayin that LL basically told her that she was too fat to be in the video, and I think she was pregnant at the time. It was kinda weird that they had 20 diff girls just mouthin the lyrics, but didn't put her in it at all.

There was a recorded interview that Shorty did recently (no more than 2 years ago) and she broke the situation with De La.

Basically, Pos was being really over protective with her, to a point where he was telling other dudes in their circle to not fuck with her.

She ended up getting with Phife, which basically caused Pos to cut all ties with her. There's speculation that Pos was in love with girl (makes sense, due to his reaction)

According to her, Dave and Mase both thought the situation was fucked, but couldn't really do anything about it, because Pos is forms the head of their Voltron.

You might be able to find the interview if you google it.

On the very short lived Soul Assassins label. I would have liked a whole album.

Thought they were pretty dope back then, never saw anything since. Were they on any of the Erick Sermon projects? Maybe Insomnia?

I'm sure he could have gotten a deal off of his appearance on "Fakin the Funk". He reappeared with some bangers in the late 90's, but all the songs sounded like they should have come out in the early-mid nineties.

And low key, I used to think he influenced Wayne's style back in the day.

He was definitely dope as hell back in the 90's.

Since we're talking about Hitman gotta mention 6'2 who was featured on a few songs off the Chronic as well. He made an appearance years later on The DOC's record handling most of the vocals but he never had major pub after the Chronic.

He produced KRS' "Step Into the World." As an MC he dropped a few indie 12"s, including one with Nine called "The Alps." There was some talk of the two recording an album together.
