"ive decided. ghost is a better emcee than jay."

just my opinion.
i love jigga.
but verse for verse, he doesn't hold a candle to ghost.
take away the fact that he makes great party music(which is no easy thing at all), and he loses.

ghost hasn't proven he can really rock a party(cherchez le ghost is all he has to show for it).
thats his only draw back.

i agree that on the surface.
ghost is more slapstick comedy.

but try as he might, jay has never come near to conveying the emotion ghost has. inspite of all his "ima make the song cry" that shit doesn't really come off.

jay might indeed be have more wit.
but ghost has more balls and heart than anyone.

i mean, he has some good lines; witty, smart and all the rest of it, but half the time, the construction seems kinda lazy, like he couldnt be bothered. plsu i can never make up my mind if his flow is deliberately casual-cum-lazy or if he just really cant be bothered to rap sharply on beat like i know he can (see: get yo mind right with bleek or is that yo chick, incidentally two of his best verses IMO).

does that equate to being a better emcee? I mean Ememin had a pretty fucked up childhood and he talks about it all the time so does that make EM a better emcee than Ghost just because he conveys his emotions through his music?

I just brought up Em because it seemed like you were saying Ghost is better than Jay because he is emotional. Ghost is a good emcee better than Jay in my opinion hell no! My biggest beef with ghost is that he just doesn't make any sense a lot of the time you are listening to him.

obviously has a better flow than ghost??!?!?!

wrong!

wrong wrong wrong!

eminems shit is predictable, not very versatile..it was astounding and fresh in 98..now its just gay..ghost is always comin fresh...the second verse on "one" is fuckin perfect, "nutmeg" is perfect, on uptempo joints like ooh wee or cherchez la ghost..he's perfect..but all are different...eminem just thinks cuz he stretches bullshit multisyllables that hardly rhyme, in a predictable pattern that that's flow..i dont think so...on the surface, its doper..but for me, versatility, the abilty to come fresh, with different styles to fit the track, that constitutes a better flow...

because believe me, no jay song is fucking with "Malcolm" and no ghost song is fucking with some of jay's heat

>sold his mom crack and shot his brother.

the storyline is emotional. the delivery doesnt have the genuine emotional gravity that is characteristic of ghost.

furthermore, id go as far as to say jays latest rhyme style is directly influenced by g-deini. peep cant fall asleep and fast cars and then throw in the black album.

when he does make sense (like 'all i got is you') he still kills it, which makes me wonder why he still does the nonsensical thing. i think he gets lazy sometimes and freestyles it. or maybe that's how he likes it sometimes.

he compared himself to an abstract painter once, i believe his quote was "i can't explain it now, but it made sense when i wrote it".

still, dude needs to silence all the critics with a "this whole album makes sense" banger.

honesty I give a fuck about a flow when your not flowing about shit. Money & bitches, rich life style, money & bitches.... all of this shit Jay spits sounds nice to some. But it causes me to turn the shit off. HONESTLY, who is he talking to? 10% of this country who can afford the shit he's spittin? Ghost has his "money & bitches" moments, but he knows when to be real with his.

I can listen to Ghost repeatedly while I can only take Jay's albums in small doses. I thinkg Ghost's emotions and wild energy is amazing. Jay sometimes seems like he's just having a conversation with you. He doesn't kick anything complex, which is good/bad sometimes.

"The sun", "All I got" and "Wildflower" are all perfect examples of Ghost just shedding his soul on the track. Wildflower is that illness. I think Ghost can't hang with Jay's dope flow though.

one, saying jay can't hold a candle to ghost is silly...esp. if you're talking verse for verse...jay has plenty of dope verses, even if i agreed with you (which i don't), i'd only give ghost a slim margin.

ghost has a more passionate delivery and a better voice.

jay has a wider range of flows and is the more consistent "writer" (since ghost has numerous forays into the realm of the unintelligible, it's hard to really compare him with a more straightforward lyricist).

i mean, when ghost can lean on saying filler lines like "heater fajita" (or whatever the hell he said), it becomes unfair to compare him to guys who "stay on the straight and narrow" as far as literal lyricism.

onstage, ghost wins.

album-wise, as far as putting together records that sound great as cohesive wholes, i actually favor ghost even though he has fewer records (mostly b/c jay almost always manages to include something i would leave off...on the black album, for example, i would have jettisoned the hook and sample choice for "justify").

songwriting-wise, ghost's catalog versus jay's, i give it to jay.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

While we're at it, we might as well compare Ra with Ghost. These comparisons are getting out of hand, for real.

Only thing about your post that I might disagree with is the "on stage thing". Jay's breath control is on point. By all accounts, Ghost kept running out of breath at MSG. Jay is usually flawless, peep the Unplugged album

you're kidding right? Jay has like 10 honest everlasting club bangers. Ghost has 1, Cherchez. Jay's got "Ain't No Nigga", "Do It Again", "Hey Papi", "Excuse Me Miss", "Big Pimpin", and soon quite possibly his biggest one ever, "Dirt Off Your Shoulder". THAT SHIT IS BANGIN.

i was saying that ghosts party tracks are better party tracks than anything jay has ever done in the clubs.. yes, jay has more club tracks.. are they better than ghost's?? No.

Jay's got
"Ain't NoNigga" - club hit.. but mellow.. shit dont bang..
"Do It Again" - bangs.. but face it this shit is forgetable..
"Hey Papi", - get serious.. this is straight up corny
Excuse Me Miss - some corny ass shit right here..
"Big Pimpin" - no question this is his best club track.. but more so because of his guests

and soon quite possibly his biggest one ever, "Dirt
>Off Your Shoulder".
>THAT SHIT IS BANGIN.

lol, that shit is cornball.. the awful "change clothes" is the only party track.

There's no MC out there currently that can touch Jay's hits in the clubs. Whatever singles he releases become the club hits of the moment, and he's got a good five certifiable club classics that cause people to rush the dancefloor YEARS after their release. And the scary thing is that list is missing tracks like 'Give it to Me' and lawd knows how many guest appearances he's kilt (Who plays the singing part in the Mya 'Best of me'Remix. Or who actually pays attention to Bleeks verse in 'Is that your Chick'.)

Ghost's weakness clearly is club hits. Cherchez is the closest and honestly it was more the production that put it over the top much more then Ghost's lyrics/personality.

jay is the best at what he does, but to me ghost is the epitome of an emcee..somewhat elusive, his lyrics are metaphorical and detached from eachother at times...more of a ghetto poet or some shit. jay says what he says, without glossing it or whatever. ghost puts in a huge effort to disguise what he's saying, so you'll have to THINK before you can understand his point.
theyre very different, but i think ghost is more talented in terms of actual poetic skill.

2 of the best to ever do it...and for different reasons...im lookin forward to "Pretty Tony" and Ghost isn't abstract, his train of thought is his own he makes references that only people in his area or in his close circle will understand that doesn't make him abstract....both of thes guys use hella emotion...Here peep this verse and tell me if you think it's abstract and then ill explain it if i must...

Ayo
I'm like Malcolm out the window with the joint
Hoodied up blood in my eye , a lead to fly
Like fuck it (2 gunshots) , look how these niggas duck shit
One kid hollerin what lookin up , he the big wig
Fake ass cat , low life , sodomize mind
Beatin niggas , big bricks of bread sellin mad dimes
His feet hurt , networkin he get no work
Yo smack him where his hand hurt , fuck what he worth
Yo he sucked his thumb smooth for the kid laced with the big guns
Stain to my Baltimore niggas that he on the run
Plus he ill in the drums , heartburn for life , calcium man
Watch him grab the Tums , he's a front
Pigeon totalist sister with the fat ass
Show hash behind up the block plus he smashed her
Big Bub did him somethin deadly , act premedidtated
Buck 60 strike was the medley
Nice like Van Halen , seen him at the tunnel with his skin peelin
Did two days thought he was jailin
You get close , look at his hands
That's the same kid that cut his wrists , talkin bout the cuffs did it
He ran away , frontin majorly , eyes like Sammy Davis jr.
Rounded off with a fade g , he sport the Bob Hope classics
Ran down Asics , Kmart , the short sleeve shit be the basics
He eat hams shitted on himself twice , big hatted Jews
Rushed the nigga out in Crown Heights

CHORUS:
Yo let me tell you how the game go
We gettin rid of all the prostitutes
Tony wants the streets back fo sho
Too many hustlers , too many thieves
We're fuckin up who's willin to fight and teach the c's
Too much TV , guns and robberies
Lust and greed and hate the 4 devils jealousy

Yo I champunch Mase in his face over some bullshit
The other night they kidnapped his brother pokin it with knives
It's rainin , 85 degrees kinda muggy
One of the nights they thrown in his face it's real ugly
Yo we up in Jonesy's posin , all these niggas know me
>From fuckin wit , under theses niggas heavy parolees
Yo we played the speaker
And from a distance we could see these chains
The P slayed , flat on his chest , was two plains
Ashy hands yo , no need for rings at all
He just cracked the V8 backed up , leaned against the wall
Lookin flower , he just came home , he on like a fuck
Did a dime for holdin up the gods up in the armored truck
Ten years later son 280 on the weight tip
He throwin up six plates plus he studied Matrix
He's a wally horse shout it out sweatin through his valor
Cock-eyed nigga back up his neck he had shores
Sammy eagerly rode up on him , taxi off the turkey with the joint
On him
Flower look his man stood up before him
The bitches hit the table , Jah king stripped off his cables
Shots went off , Sam'll get a chance to make his debut
Flower grabbed Tiff his man with the sideburns , hat fell off
We nerd his wigworms , he hid behind Rich
See Allah hit the light switch , young girls were trampled
In the measured pool , pistol with Mase , and broke the handle
Desperate crawlin to the door on all fours
Shim kicked the jukebox the theme song rode in was "It's Yours"
Oh my goodness , Ba grabbed the Mo bottle thrashin
He layin like a gay models shoutin out Sebastian
He smiled with his teeth missin begging for mercy
No more god , the 68 thousand down a pair of three
Out came the cannon , whistled out zaggin
Cham snatched his flag four big rocks enter the dragon
It's over , another story told
Lyin with the snakes , tongue kissin cobras

CHORUS

more emotion, energy, & creativity but Jay has a better flow. Plus Jay's lyrics are more understandable, & well put together. Most of the time Ghost's lyrics go right over my head. So 4 this reason, in my opinion........Jay is better.
