The aforementioned is a line from a verse for our Lord and Savior, James Dewitt Yancey from the hymn "Give It Up II" featuring Francis N Dankery. While there are various forms of Houses (e.g. House of Representatives, which is the name used for the legislative facet of some nations' governments; House of Blues, a popular chain of music halls; "Run's House," an MTV reality show based on the life of Joseph Ward Simmons and his family, whose title is taken from his group Run-DMC's first single from its fourth album, 'Tougher Than Leather'; Hugh Laurie, British actor that plays the role of Dr. Gregory House on the FOX Network's medical drama "House"), there is quite a distinction between Columbia House and Publisher's Clearing House.
Columbia House is a mail-order music and DVD club. It was popular in the 80s and 90s for its ads that allowed the consumer to purchase "12 CDs or cassettes for one penny". However, the customer had to enter a legal agreement to purchase six CDs/cassettes per year at regular club prices. Those prices ranged from $18.98 to $21.98 per title. Columbia House offered the consumer the option of purchasing additional titles during enrollment at a reduced rate (usually 50% off) in order to lower the amount of required purchases during the given year.
Publisher's Clearing House is a direct-marketing firm that offers consumers magazine subscriptions and household products. With the purchase of products from PCH, the buyer is entered into a sweepstakes prize drawing for a chance at winning monetary prizes. The prizes are awarded by PCH's Prize Patrol, which is a team made of PCH executives. The Prize Patrol will come to the winner's home to present the grand prize, which is in the form of a large-sized check (used for dramatic purposes). This is done as a surprise to the winner and is broadcast live on national outlets such as a commercial during the Super Bowl, NBC's "The Today Show" and CBS' "This Morning."
As you see, while Columbia House and Publisher's Clearing House both offer mail order products that come to one's house, Publisher's Clearing House is the only company that delivers checks.
Please forgive me for I have sinned.
