DDR Guitar Hero Wii and DS
The outstanding thing I hear lately when I talk about games with non-gmaers is how FUN these games look, and how much they're DYING to check em out.
My girl don't play shit. She's too self-conscious for DDR, but she picked up Guitar Hero and murdered me immediately. She loves the Wii. She's starting to come around.
I'm really happy that these companies said "fuck you" to the graphics pissing contest, and decided to innovate instead. Fuck a tetraflop. Fuck it in it's digital ass. These are the same companies that shut the game down over 20 years ago. I mean, fuck, I just bought a DS and haven't even bought a freakin DS games yet. I bought 4 GBA games, instead. Galaga was 10 bucks. I couldn't fuckin help it.

But some cats need to let it go. I was the same way back in the Street Fighter 2 days. I couldn't stand 3D fighters when Virtua Fighter and Tekken first hit the scene. But some kids in Boston's Chinatown got me hooked on Tekken and I realized 3D fighters were so much deeper than 2D fighters just based on the elements they could add. Especially once Tekken 2, VF2, etc started coming.

i'm hoping that VC and XBL Arcade will make it so the small dev companies can make some really dope games and get them out there, and that they'll be successful so they keep churning em out.
Can it be offensive to someone who doesn't realize it isn't intentional? Yup.
I doubt those enemies will be in the final game after all the fuss about it, but to call that person insane is unfair.
Also, if it was a Japanese company, you can kind of understand. A lot of people over there don't realize how offensive some of this stuff is, which is why you'll occasionally see a fuss over stuff like the bad guys in loco roco or that oil man in the mega man game on psp. I know this studio making this game used to be located in Philly, so they don't have as much of an excuse.

Knights in white garb with splashes of color and crosses on their helmets beating up on really dark people carrying spears may not immediately conjure images of the Klan to you and me, but for anybody who actually experienced them first hand, I don’t think it’s that big of a leap in logic.
Also, I didn't say they were a Japanese company. I said if they were, the images would be more understandable.

Recently, Japanese game developers have had controversial characters in their games. Remember the bad guys in Locco Rocco that everyone made a fuss over?
Things like that occur because of a cultural disconnect. It's easier to give them the benefit of the doubt that there was no malice behind the images because they aren't American and cannot fully grasp how things that resemble blackface can be so hurtful to some people.
This company, however, is an American company, and should have realized that the character models could be interpreted as such.

Do those things look brown to you? These jet black figures carrying sticks with bulging eyes and crooked teeth really look like brown bags to you?

The Doc finds gaming more of a chore than it is fun sometimes.
He doesn't play as much as he used to, and definitely not as broadly across genres like he used to (it's been narrowed down to sports and fighting games, and the occasional RPG)...and it's largely because of how the "fun" element has been narrowed down. Maybe it's because The Doc has an undiagnosed case of ADD. Who knows!

i haven't been this excited over a console since super nintendo...
i was given a PS at the end of its life and only had like puzzle fighter and FF Tactics...
never owned a dreamcast/64/gamecube/xbox/PS2 and had no intentions to
but damn it all if i wasn't excited over the wii
and after owning it and playing the shit out of it
it lived up to the hype and more
