"So I just got a Nintendo DS"
Wed Jun-28-06 08:09 PM by 6FeetDeepInThought

Didn't plan to, but I took advantage of a Gamestop deal and ended up with $70 in credit. There were no games on any of the 3 home consoles that I really wanted, so I just went ahead and copped it.

You folks wanna recommend any games? All I got is Mario Kart DS (Which when played online BTW, is SWEEEEET)

there's two games you should pick up. One is the kanji dictionary, which is super useful and will definitely hold you down until you can afford a better dictionary. Also, there's a new kanji tutor game that just came out that my co-workers were recommending pretty seriously. I'm gonna grab it in a couple weeks, I'll let you know how it is.

i wouldn't mind
- a good RTS game
- a good soccer game, where i can change the formation/positioning with the touchpad and stylus

preferebly with WiFi. in fact, it MUST have wifi multiplayer

otherwise, i'm just keeping this thing cause it might link up with new nintendo console in cool ways (i heard someone talk about a star trek game where you use the DS like the touch controls on the captain's chair, and issue voice commands LOL), and i heard they're releasing a web browser for it, which might be alright

or i might sell it. i got it for £20

and that is distressing to me. It's one of those games you hide from people while you're playing it cause you don't want them saying "Look at this fag here" but it's addicting as all hell. I play it the most out of all of my games by far. Here are the rest of my games and recommendations:

-New Super Mario Bros - Cop it now! VERY fun game.

-Metroid Prime: Hunters- I just bought it and the controls are bothering me, but still great game.

-Castlevania - Holy crap, is this a good game. I can't wait for the next one.

-Nintendogs - It's cute. I played it for about 2 weeks and got tired of it, but it's alright. If you find a used copy for cheap, it's worth the pick up.

-Warioware - Again, a game you might not want to play in public cause you'll look like a deuchebag, but very fun to play.

-Tetris DS - I didn't think it would be good, but it's fucking amazing.

-Mario and Luigi - Fun game. It's like a poor man's RPG and might hold you down until a real RPG comes out.

-Kirby - Probably the best use of the stylus. Fun game for the fact that you've never played a game this way.

I heard the Brain Age Games are good too, but I haven't gotten them yet.

But the game I'm anticipating on getting the most is Final Fantasy III. That game looks freaking amazing.

Yes you can. I actually don't even like the multiplayer that much. It can get a little monotonous cause you're basically doing the same thing over and over again everyday, but it gets very addicting trying to collect all the massive amounts of shit in the game. I've connected to my sister and bro-in-laws towns over WiFi and the only cool part about is meeting their neighbors and trying to get them to move to your town and fucking their towns up.

She's always playing it while we talk on the phone. Sometimes I get confused about whether she's talking about happenings in her real life or in her little Animal Crossing town. lol

And she got it for both of my nephews so they can play with her.

I wanna get it, too, but I'm holding out for a non-white DS Lite.

Do it NOW, I got over $70 from trading in 12 games that would normally net me a total of probably less than $30

And a trick to abuse the deal if you're short on games is to buy a cheap $3 or $4 used game from the store and immediately sell it back, heh

Mario Kart - 4.25 / 5 great entertaing game for 1 player. multiplayer is good, but its missing a few things here and there. i.e. not all the tracks are available to play via wifi and theres NO balloon/star battle for wifi either

New Super Mario Bros. - 4 / 5 great and fun, but not challenging enough and its too easy to beat. no wifi. minigames are dope. lots of nostaligia

Sonic Rush - 3.75 / 5 fun and challenging once your eyes get adjusted to looking at 2 screens while following sonic at a fast pace. i just got it so i havent finished it yet. its a little bit cheesy tho. i.e. sonic does some cheesy ass breaking breakdancing, tails is annoying as always. you do get to do tricks, but you dont get to play as anybody else besides sonic and blaze. the graphics are very similar to classic sonic, but sonic himself as a sprite on screen is very underdone

for GBA

final fantasy advance - 3.75 / 5 very very long, fun, but gets redundant after a while. storyline is okay, but the method of advancement throughout the game teh developers used makes it redudant. if you find it cheap, then go for it.

zelda - minish cap - 3.90 / 5 fun game, but not challenging or long enough. its very link to teh past meets newer elements of teh zelda series.

Holy Shit, this game is going to consume my life. Thanks to ChillinChief for the rec

I wish DS games weren't so damn hard to find in stores, although the plus side is that they have high resale value on eBay

Ships on Monday. It's about damn time, right?

My first games are gonna be New Super Mario Bros, Trauma Center and Tetris DS. After that, Animal Crossing, Castlevania and Meteos.

those were seriously the first two things I asked for. I ended up with Animal Crossing and NEW Super Mario Bros. I'm not mad. The guy told me a new Castlevania is coming, although that's not going to stop me from getting the old one (it's out of print, apparently, but I don't care -- I'm tracking it down). He also told me a new Meteos is coming, and I might just wait for that one instead of getting the old one.

Animal Crossing is ILL. I can't wait to explore the multi-player. This is one of my favorite franchises EVER. I am now eagerly awaiting an announcement about this franchise on the Wii, like super-mega eagerly.

NEW Super Mario Bros. is actually kinda hard for me, because the jumping is more old-school, unforgiving style than the new school floaty, easy-adjust type of jumping. It IS all kinds of nostalgia, even if I'd easily rate Mario 3 or Yoshi's Island above it (both available for GBA).

___________

HOPE!

Yeah, good sources for used games are ebay, Amazon and half.com. I just ordered NSMB from ebay and Tetris from Half. I'm bidding on Trauma Center tomorrow.

He also told me a new Meteos is coming,

Okay, I'll keep that in mind.

My mom is totally addicted to that game. She doesn't play anything else. She's always playing it when we're talking on the phone. She bought copies for my two nephews so they could do the multiplayer thing.

Hmm...I hope that's not going to annoy me. We shall see.

Both are great games and highly recommended, too. New Castlevania looks to be dope, but won't be out for awhile...BUT it will, I believe, have online co-op, which is fucking awesome...

So, Amazon bitched out and sent me an email today saying my shipment was delayed until at least 9/22. Aw, hell NAW! So, I stopped by my neighborhood EB Games to try to reserve one and they let me buy it right then and there...for the same price as Amazon's selling it. I'm very, very happy right now. I'll be even happier when it's charged up.

The other night, I sat down to play it at 10 and the next time I looked up, it was almost 12:30.

I've had multiple dreams about playing it.

I'll be sitting here at work or out running an errand and the music will pop into my head.

The only other game I've played since I got my DS Lite is Tetris DS and that lasted, oh, about 15 minutes.

If Meteos is this addictive for me, I'm really scared of what'll happen when I get Animal Crossing.

It's incredible. I love how you have to strategize how you clear the screen of tiles (meteos) depending on the gravity and ignition speeds of the various plants. (And there are a lot of planets!) And the graphics and music are awesome. If you get it, let me know, and I can hook you up with some links to a couple really good strategy guides, one including a breakdown of each planet's properties.

I found it used at EB Games, where I bought my DS lite. You can definitely find it on Half. I purchased other games there. I find that ordering used off Half or Amazon is the same or cheaper than than final bids on ebay more times than not.

you unlock everything

it's definitely an enjoyable game and i had tonnes of fun with it, but imo i think it lacks a bit of depth and replayability (at least after everything's unlocked)
