"need help switching from mac to pc (steve jobs can blow me)"

yep its true i'm coming in from the darkside after years of mac loving, i am ready to move on. my ibook and my ipod are utter failures in reliability both have been sent back to be fixed under warranty TWICE!! and both times they have failed. the last time they both crashed at the same time causing me to lose a ton of music and documents. anyway i'm looking for a new laptop preferably a convertible one mostly for surfing the net, doing schoolwork and watching porn. so any recomendations would be nice. and also whats the difference between the celeron and pentium processors. who is better dell, gateway, toshiba or lenovo. is 1gb of ram good enough?

p.s i'm thinking about getting this one http://gateway.com/products/GConfig/proddetails.asp?system_id=cx200x&seg=hm

men are so simple, and so subject to present necessities, that he who seeks to deceive will always find someone who will allow himself to be deceived. (c)Niccolò Machiavelli

Pentiums are more powerful and can crunch numbers faster than Celerons. For the stuff you said you want to do a Celeron processor should be fine.

it's not hard to keep you box clean but the average user won't know how and usually don't go looking for solutions until it's too late

it actually doesn't take much work at all. 15 minutes to install an antivirus and spyware program isn't a whole lot of work to me.

having worked for a internet service provider at least 50% of the complaining customers needed to do 1 simple thing
uninstall their fucking firewall

and the problem with pcs is
people hardly buy all the software so u gonna have to steal it
and that comes with cracks
and some people dont know which cracks to use and which not

avg, its a free virus scanner/protector...

it takes a few minutes, and you can set up scans while you sleep or are away.

point upgrades.

When we windows users DO upgrade to Vista (yeah like tiger is better, feels like siegfried and roy should come with the OS), we will be getting more than just desktop searching capabilities.

if they're repairing it, have them send you some new hardware

it might take some yelling but I've heard them doing this plenty of times

one thing could have been affecting the other.....

and don't blame apple for you losing your music or whatever.......gotta always have a backup

but the way ipod and mac simply just randomly BREAK DOWN its funny
i'd rather get a wack virus once a yr that i can get rid of in a hour or so
then have my entire system stop working, have to ship it out to get it fixed, then MAYBE how the problem corrected and sent back

I was looking at mac compatible Firewire enclosures and the difference in price on Mac sites and on PC sites was insane. I guess people are willing to pay that extra for the same piece of hardware but I'm not.

Good move. Although i'm an avid Ipod fan, I doubt i'd ever go all mac.
1st: fuck a gateway, you can get a better computer for less money. Get up on tigerdirect.com or zipzoomfly.com.

2nd: If you don't want to spend the loot on a Pentium 4 (or Pentium D) pc, look for an AMD processor based pc over a Celeron based pc. With an AMD based, you'll get equal or better performance than the Pentium 4 at a cost equal to or lower than a Celeron based pc.

3rd: If your prefered configuration goes beyond the $800 mark, consider building your own PC using a barebones kit.

4th: 1Gig of memory will be plenty. Avoid anything less. 1GB IS the new standard. Anything less is a bargain PC with a bargain PC performance. A pc with 1GB memory can be had for the same price as one with 512MB if you shop around.

Don't let all the hype about viruses and spyware scare you. If you have commen sense, your PC can be problem free with minimal effort.

edit: oh yeah, and if a laptop is what you want...peep game

all it took was about 35 replies. thanks for your input. i checked out both those sites but their prices are more expensive than the gateway. i did find it at bestbuy for cheaper though but i will have to personally upgrade the memory (i've never done it but i can figure it out. anyway i will probably get it in the next few days.

he wants a pc, get over it

macs are cool if you like them and have the cash

if you don't pc's are much cheaper, easier to upgrade, and not hard to keep "clean"

I've had my homebuilt pc for like 3 years now, 2 viruses, easily gotten rid of, no other major issues, still runs great

my parents imac fucks up constantly

I would recommend upgrading the ram to a gig, because Tablet edition uses more resources than regular XP...so bump up the ram.

I like it, because it's easier to input data if you're out in the field. Microsoft's OneNote is probably the best office application they've put out in a while.

We got the M280 recently...I just have one thing to say, with the widescreen display (glass) and extra battery...that son of a gun is HEAVY. and I'm not one to complain about the weight of laptops.

Crucial and Kingston are up there as far as RAM goes but if you're willing to experiment check out what other brands have gotten high reviews on pricegrabber and newegg. I cot some Corsair "Value Select" last week and it's been going pretty strong so far. You can definately save some cash that way.

Oh and quit bitching about people's posts. Everybody (except for Steve Job's eunuchs) is trying to help you.
