"PC Upgrade question"

I have an i5 6500 and 950 GTX - both in obvious need of an upgrade. I can only afford to get one at this time.

Which should I look to upgrade first? CPU or graphics card?

as some apps and drivers will associate with the specific CPU including Windows itself.

if you want an upgrade for work, probably go CPU
if its for gaming, go GPU.

As mentioned, a CPU is closer to a complete overhaul. But if you're good with the daily (non gaming) performance, GPU makes much more sense.
