Lady at Best Buy today said ain't no regular 5s now, though, and not a lot of 5Cs to go around. She says that it's most likely that the free phone will continue to be 4S, and the 5S will go to hunnid.

went and start looking at Android phones and I just couldn't, man. Most of the Android phones feel like I'll break them in a week. Only one phone didn't. Can't remember which. But even then, they're all so fucking big. Nah.

And I got all these apps on iOs? I can't leave that shit behind.

Historically we'll get between 1 and 2 new phones.

In 2008 we got 3g. 2009 faster processor and 480 video, 2010 "Retina" and a 720p camera, 2011 it was Siri and 1080p, 2012 was a bigger screen and LTE, and 2013 was 64bit processor ,Touch ID, and the M7 "motion coprocessor."

The rumors seem be:
a)bigger screen (s) : 4.7" and 5.5" are rumored along with 2x and 3x resolutions
b)a faster processor
c)a new camera that protrudes a bit, like on the iPod Touch. (13megapixel?)
d)a new flash
e)made of Sapphire
f)802.11ac built-in (not sure the memory is fast enough to read at that speed)

Also there's a chance that new features will be announced for iOS8 that haven't been included in the beta builds.

Wild rumors:
NFC
Curved Screen
Removing headphone jack
Light-up logo
IGZO screen

Other rumors:
iWatch or wearable product to be introduced
Apple television sets?

Still not a fan of the lines but this is the best I've seen so far. Glad I only go for the black/space grey iPhone. These lines look more subtle.

I think it's funny to live in a world where you think Apple's stock price is where it deserves (?) to be and Gruber thinks it's wildly overpriced. that's how my mind works.

In response to Reply # 18

Consumer sentiment is high, price targets are getting bumped, and the launch is just days away. If rumors are true, NFC payments with Visa and AMEX is gonna be huge. Pretty much most of my of institutional research is bullish on AAPL

Nevermind the fact that consumer confidence is soaring, the fed's comments haven't really dented the rally and most global markets are rallying

With that said, individual analysts have their own agenda so if they say it's overpriced then they say it's overpriced. You should be wary if there's 100% analyst agreement anyways

•AAPL shares are notable laggards today. No one specific headline that I can see but a few items are receiving attention: 1) the iPhone launch on Sept 9 is prob. the most previewed, expected, and anticipated release in recent memory for AAPL. The bar is very high for them to surprise next week (and AAPL is a very, very crowded long w/people who have piled in ahead of the 9/9 event); 2) Samsung held a new product launch this morning and some think this could help the co recapture share in smartphones; 3) Pac Crest had a cautious note out this morning recommending investors book profits in the stock.

29. "It's not expected to drop this year:"
In response to Reply # 16

"AAPL event kicks off at 1ET on Tuesday in SF -- iPhone 6 baked into expectations so focus on iWatch and mobile payments

This event has garnered a ‘sell the news’ reaction in the last several years as new product introductions were ‘evolutionary’ vs ‘revolutionary’, but we think it’s different this time as not only will AAPL introduce the larger screen iPhone 6, but also expand into a new hardware category for the first time in four years with iWatch, and even more importantly introduce a mobile payments service.

We think a strong iPhone 6 upgrade cycle is largely baked in at this point, so the stock reaction likely hinges on (1) early impressions of the iWatch to debunk the bear case that ‘innovation is dead’ at the company post Steve Jobs, and (2) monetization details around mobile payments to support the bull case that revenue mixes toward recurring Services revenues and the multiple expands."

More than the iWatch or iPhone 6, the mobile payment structure could be the real game changer down the road. This might be the launch that really will make NFC ubiquitous with retailers.

The iPhone 6(+) is gonna sell like bonkers with the pent-up demand from the bigger screen expectations. And at this point I'm fairly sure now that the leaks are premeditated, although they'd never admit it. Big shift from Jobs' secrecy culture, and this event shows that leaks can be beneficial for the company.

What's crazy is that the iPhone 6 is the least impressive thing from all this... mobile payments is gonna be MAJOR (just peep the EBAY charts).

And that watch is gonna bring Apple's mojo back, although it'll likely remain a (fairly big) niche product because not everyone *needs* a watch. Apple's reputation is back though.

Tim Cook is showing his ass on this one. Oh and the stock popped up to 3%, just sayin.

Handle, you gonna talk shit about those financial analysts this time too right? You're not gonna back down now are you?

Does just what I need from a SmartWatch and it looks better... not a bunch of apps in which the same thing can be done by a phone in my pocket. Plus I paid $260 less than watch the Apple Watch costs.

iPhone 6 64GB though, I'm in.

6+ is bigger than a Note 3 (which I have as my work phone and its uncomfortably big). no thank you.

In response to Reply # 0

I'll have to wait for reviews.

They replaced the 32GB models with 64GB for same price point. (Shame on Apple for 8GB 5c.)

The iPhone 6 plus seems too big to me, maybe it'll seem smaller in person. (The "forehead" and "chin" could have been made smaller.)

The iPhone 6 has same/better battery life, bigger screen with increased resolution (not a lot of increase, but increase), the faster processor/gpu/m8, barometer (love it for hiking), new camera (not OIS, but with faster slow-mo).

iPhone 6 plus pluses: increased resolution, OIS for photos and videos, larger battery.

Both also has these things which I don't really care about right now: Apple Pay, 8012ac (not sure if that's a useful IRL.)

The 6 weights 7 grams more than the 5S (reasonable for increased size, wel'll have to hold it to know if it's good or bad,) and the 6 plus weights 60 more (50%)!!

In response to Reply # 0

I have been using the 5S since last December and it serves my needs. My mistake was buying only 16GB, I really want to have a 32GB or larger capacity for camera, apps, podcasts and music etc..

However, apart from the slightly larger and improved display/screen there isn't much to upgrade for. New editions such as Display Zoom and Reachability are nice but not reason enough to upgrade.

I'd likely have to pay about $300 on top of what I can sell my iPhone 5S for and I'm not sure its really worth doing it.

Anyone want to try and convince me? It's not like the 6 has a superior battery to the 5S. If I don't upgrade then it is unlikely i'd get another iteration until the 7 in 24 months time.

the jump to the 6 probably isn't worth the price of paying for that early upgrade. UNLESS you are getting close to using all of your 16 gigs on your 5S. With apps getting larger and larger more space could be an issue.

Yes, space is really my only issue. Plus I have Apple Care + on this 5S which is a nice insurance should I ever spiderweb or water damage my phone.

If you check "bargain" sites like Slickdeals you'll find lots of promo codes making cases $5, $2 or even free.

Examples:
http://slickdeals.net/f/7200718-kayscase-armorholster-and-slim-soft-gel-cover-cases-iphone-6-plus-4-iphone-6-2-50-amp-more-free-shipping

http://slickdeals.net/f/7200506-zoogue-iphone-6-6-plus-social-pro-cases-preorder-pricing-starting-at-3-99-plus-fs

http://slickdeals.net/f/7200278-roocase-kapsul-series-hybrid-tough-armor-case-for-iphone-6-various-colors-6-98-with-free-shipping?v=1

http://slickdeals.net/f/7199454-boxwave-almost-nothing-tpu-bumper-rim-case-apple-iphone-6-plus-3-iphone-6-2

Also some of the cases manufacturers are giving away promo codes or even free cases on Twitter.
Example:

Just an FYI.

I'm nervous about the size though. The 5S is the biggest phone I've ever used. I'm hoping that the 6+ can double as a replacement for the ipad mini.

It's either going to be too big for the phone and too small for the tablet, or just right. I'm hoping for the latter.

My thoughts exactly. I had an iPad then ditched it for a mini. Gave the mini to my dad because I didn't use it enough. Hoping the 6+ will be the perfect in between.

The same way people say "I want a battery that last for days and days" and then the DROID MAXX line wasn't a gigantic hit, compared to say the iPhone or the Galaxy S4.

Now, some people want a phone that is a tablet, and that's what the Plus will be, but I think sales of it, in the U.S. will be 30% of the 4.7" iPhone 6.

I see way more 4.7-5.1 inch Android phones than I do "phablets."

Time will tell, but al the reviews I've read thus far say you *need* to use two hands for the Plus, and that's it's really more a tablet than phone.

Now I understand why Apple left the big "forehead" and "chin" areas on the face of the phone, it's a place to hold it with two hands without obscuring the screen.

At the end of both reviews, he says he's definitely go to buy it. Maybe he's buying one for himself and one for his wife but I'm utterly confused. Which would he buy for himself?

6 Plus - "I’m going to buy an iPhone 6 Plus. I’m taken with it; it feels like an entirely new kind of device for Apple, and it has such a killer camera I can’t say no."

6 - "I’m going to buy one. (Space Gray, 64GB, Verizon, in case you were wondering.)"

Nice work, jackass.

I made the comparison with the iPhone 6 plus and I was cool with saving the $100 and regular iPhone 6.

If I find a 128 GB iPhone 6 plus within 14 days, I will reevaluate. I am pretty content with the one I have.

64GB has been big enough for me since the 5s - I rarely go over 32GB unless I load up a lot of music.

Haven't played with it much but the case I bought before the phone came fits perfectly.

4.7" iPhone 6.

Does the TouchID recognition seem faster now? (And works better with sweaty hands.)

Apps that are blown up seem a little big, but very useable. The blown up keyboard in that mode is easier to type on.

The speakerphone is louder.

Battery life seems very good - the same or better than the 5s. I took a 2 hour 40 minute hike today, running Nike + Running the whole time, listening to either podcasts with Overcast or off-line music on Beats with a couple of connections to check email and it only took 13% of the battery. It'd usually take 20% on the 5s.

It's definitely bigger and I notice it most when taking in/out of my pocket.

Still early days with it.

In response to Reply # 122

Siri now does speech recognition "in real time." It used to wait for you to pause, now it does it "Google style."

Nike+ Running wasn't updated yet, so no barometer/altimeter features. Hope that comes soon.

Last Pass's features are not on the Keyboard, but accessed via a the share sheet - that's kind of not optimal.

The process to install and enable new keyboards is kind of lame.

Apps that crash in iOS 8 or iPhone 6: Scrabble

Odd things:
Sometimes while watching full screen video in landscape more and the video controls are hidden (so the video is 100% full screen) clicking on the video doesn't bring up the controls. (It's usually a click near the top or bottom that'll do it.) Probably an iOS 8 glitch? Switching to portrait mode and doing it fixes it . Doesn't happen all the time.

Had a few audio glitches while hiking, running Nike in the back group and using the fast forward action on the headphone remote to skip to the next track in Beats. Just seems slightly less responsive and very small (but audible) glitches occur.

In response to Reply # 0

Fell in love with the 6Plus when holding it. The screen/display is fantastic. I could totally get used to using it and as i'm a heavy data/media consumer and rarely use the phone aspect of the iPhone i'd rarely be holding the phone up to my face. In my pockets the phone didn't feel overly large. The camera seems superb in the 6Plus. Fortunately all future iPhone will get these advancements probably next year.

Holding the iPhone 6 after being amazed by the 6Plus definitely made me think I can afford to hold onto my 5S for another year. The extra screen size would be nice but i'm not going to pay a multi hundred fee just for upgrading. However, today my iPhone 5S ran out after using it for half a day when I was out and about in London, so going forward i'm going to have to be a wall hugger. It's not cool that iPhones battery life are so shitty.

i love the idea of a 5.5inch iPod Touch. I'd buy that easily. Would it encroach too much on the iPad mini sales?

Maybe it was too expensive at this point, and all the rumors were out there because they are investing in the manufacturing of sapphire screens for the Apple Watch. I have a couple watches with sapphire crystals, they are truly non-scratchable and non-breakable. Would be a huge win for them. No need to ever use screen protectors.

If you drop your MacBook you're out of luck:

AppleCare Terms for U.S: http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/appmacnaen.html

If you drop an iPhone you'e covered:

AppleCare+ For Iphone, iPad, and iPod Terms for U.S.:https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplusnaen.html

Interesting fact is replace the screen without Applecare+ is cheaper than paying for AppleCare+ and one "incident", unless that "incident" breaks more than just the screen.

And AppleCare+ doesn't cover intentional damage.

gotta see if this is a problem for people in their daily lives

In response to Reply # 0

So i'm a 5S user and only had it for 10 months and its fine apart from battery life but Apple has told me if I do a DFU reinstall then my battery life will improve significantly. It is going to be a pain in the ass to wipe all the data from apps and the numerous wifi passwords i've collected this past year just to get better battery life.

But i've come into $700 which I wasn't aware I would have and thinking do I use this as an opportunity to upgrade to the 6 and 6Plus?

What are your thoughts on the 6 and 6Plus after using them a few weeks. Is the 6Plus too large to be using all the time? Or is it a great device?

I don't play games on my iPhone but I read a fuck of a lot, nytimes app and all other websites so the bigger display on either phone is an attraction.

The internals are not a massive upgrade from the 5S so I'm thinking of sitting this round out. I just wish i'd gone for bigger storage than my 16GB.

The version I want is $900 after taxes but only comes with a 750p screen. I can kind of deal with everything else but THAT is a deal breaker. A new LG G3 costs around $560 and a 128 GB card costs $109. I can buy a wireless charging back cover, wallet case, and tempered glass screen protector and still not come close to the cost of an iPhone 6. Did I mention it comes with a mere 1 GB of RAM?

I understand they are two different operating systems completely but it frustrates me to an extent in comparing the two phones.

I can buy the 6 right now if I wanted to but will hold out the for the i6S that comes with a 1080p screen and 2000+ mah battery.

Well it's got a faster processor , has a better camera (focusing speed,1080P 60, and super slo mo), faster graphics chip, faster LTE bands available (LTE Advanced), faster wi-fi speeds, faster Touch-ID recognition, faster processor, faster charging using a 2.1amp charger, louder speakerphone.

The new screen sizes make the phone bigger, which also improves battery performance (as does the new processor.)

More pixels, faster pixels, faster processor, faster wireless, faster wi-fi, faster camera, faster Touch-ID, and faster recharging - it's not an insignificant upgrade.

Unless your 4/4s/5/5c/5s is "good enough." Which it very well may be.

Downsides: It's bigger. iOS8 still has annoying bugs.

145. "But processor upgrade is not noticeable...but other aspects are"
In response to Reply # 144

The big change came with 64 bit in the 5S model so the change from A7 to A8 is not significant. Most reviewers have said comparing the phone on processor related tasks you wouldn't be able to notice meaningful differences.

The more important changes are the camera and change in display size.

I'm really looking for peoples thoughts on whether the 6Plus is not too large to carry around all day and whether it is a great device for consuming media on and using for camera.

You should go handle one and see if it's right for you.

I think it's too big for me - and no one I know personally has bought one yet.

Apple does have a 14 day return policy - you could buy it and use it for say 10 days and then decide.

I went to the Apple store over two weeks ago and loved the look of the 6Plus but of course admiring it in the store and then using it in the street are two different things.

I'm almost certain i'm going to skip this iteration but i am still keen to hear how people are finding the 6 and 6Plus

In response to Reply # 144

I'm not sure about this, but I've read that it's hard on the battery and will reduce the number of cycles you can squeeze out of the battery.

Good to have the option in a pinch, though.

The older phones only accepted 1 amp of juice. It doesn't matter whether you used a 5 watt or a 12 watt charger, the phone would only accept that same amount of power. You're wrong.

In response to Reply # 156

The new iPhones will draw 2.1amps (like the iPad mini) and will charge to 90% faster.

Look ,someone wrote an article on it : http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/23/iphone-6-plus-2-1a-charger-quick/

152. "IMO you should upgrade iPhones on a 2 year cycle."
In response to Reply # 142

Which happens to work out nicely because the contracts are around 2 years. You know every year there's gonna be a refresh, and you know that certain specs (processor, overall speed, camera, etc.) are always gonna get upgraded. Those upgrades alone aren't worth buying a new phone (likely early in your contract) if you have last years model. But after two years worth of the upgrades to those basic feature, you're definitely gonna notice the difference. I upgraded this time from my two year old 5 to the 6 and love it.

The thing that can throw all this off and make it worthwhile to upgrade early is the new features of that year's phone, not the improvements. This year, obviously for most that's the size options. For me, even if I already had a 5s I would have jumped on this upgrade for the chance to get 128gb (which is what I have now.) Whether that or some other new feature is worth it to you is an individual choice.
