After a lot of stress and disappointment I made Mother Brain my bitch. That game was tough as shit and I almost gave up numerous times. Having to get my energy up every time was just ridiculous, but I made it happen.
Now I'm finally getting started on Super Metroid. I still remember Ike Moses saying it was the greatest game ever in his opinion. So far I'm loving it. The music is amazing and seeing the level I just destroyed beefed up with 16 bits is quite nice.
What are some of the games you beat after a long time of playing? What was your biggest video game triumph?
I remember borrowing it from my friend for the weekend back in '94. I was in high school and most of my gaming at the time centered around EA Sports games on the Genesis. When my brother gave up on Super Mario World, I kinda picked up his SNES and started playing it. So, I borrowed it from my friend and after spending almost an entire weekend in the house playing, I wasn't even close to being done come Sunday. Ha, I didn't want to give it back.
Super Metroid was one of those first games (to me) that just allowed me to explore. No timer restricting what you could do. Just when I thought I was lost, I'd find a map and then...
I arrived at school on Monday and claimed I forgot it. Tuesday I brought it but dodged him all day. Wednesday I was like, "Man, I couldn't find you yesterday. Where were you? Man, I didn't bring it today." Thursday he showed up at my house so...
But yeah, amazing game. Today I'm looking for a way to play it again.

For all the talk about what the Wii is and isn't, it's a monster for emulators. And with homebrew...sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttt ® Clay Davis.
I've never beat any Mega Man game. And at this stage, I'm totally okay with that.

>Can you rock MAME for it?
I installed a MAME emulator the other week on it, and was putting in work on Aliens vs. Predator.

Mechanics.
Challenge.
Replay value.
Story telling.
Graphics.
Music.
Atmosphere.
It nails everything.
I was using Super Metroid to test out a new emulator setup recently (Super Metroid and the SNES version of Dracula X are my go-to emulator diagnostic games). I was just gonna play like thirty seconds. I got an hour into the game before I remembered what I intended to do and stopped playing.

The music is really REALLY good. I mean I love the original Metroid music but this is serious. PLUS when they started speaking in the beginning I was really surprised. I can't wait to play this straight up late night status.
Dude wasn't able to beat mike blindfolded but got all the way to him. Im not being facetious when i describe thinking it was incredible when i first saw it.

This guy really has to know the game like the back of his hand to put in the work like this. Very impressive.
EDIT: Man, this guy is awesome. I'm this was an awesome run.

i guess you can wiki what happened as far as the storyline goes. some stuff is probably gonna leave you confused as Super Metroid is chapter 3.
but to answer your question, it took me a year to beat Link's Awakening. i was in like 7th grade i think. this was like 97-98. all i'd played up to that point was platformers. i'd never seen a game anything like it.

I got up to that point in about 3 weeks, mostly plowing through it with my boy Carlson the Monk, after avoiding the game for 8 years because I could never get past the first summoner battle when renting it back in the day.
but for some reason I never got back around to it. it's been sitting there on my PS3 for nearly a year now, waiting.
Final Fantasy VII is another bane of mine, I hated it compared to FFVIII (and later pretty much all the other FFs) for a long time, but one summer between junior and senior year it just clicked and I blazed through that game in like a week, only to get trapped in the middle of the final dungeon without enough health items to beat the final set of bosses nor fight my way back up the dungeon and get more. I tried and tried for like 3 hours one day and nearly threw my PS2 against the wall. I've been back to hating that game ever since lmao.

Man this is way more fun to play than the original and that because they took out the annoyances of Metroid. You don't "have" to farm to stay alive in this one. The map is a beautiful thing. Music and sound effects are superb. The bosses range in difficulty and so do the levels. I find myself viewing some levels through the original thinking "this would be more difficult if they added this and made this move to" you know...like the HARD ASS first installment.
I don't think you should be allowed to play this until you beat the first Metroid. Super is like a gift for completing such a difficult game.
