Can you actually enter that Fighter Jet without getting shot to bits either on land or in the air? I know of the Military base that's in the game, but I would imagine trying to steal the jet would mean getting a four or five star alert immediately.

My sources in Europe tell me there are 3 million preorders. Then you factor in American Xbox and Playstation sales and the number increases.

I hope the shark eating animation isn't too graphic. I hope this game has hookers and strip clubs. This might be the first GTA game I don't use cheat codes for.

In response to Reply # 0

1. I was very skeptical about how the character switch was going to be implemented. This video shows it exactly, I can now see how rewarding that could be. In fact, it's almost like every missions is 3 (old GTA missions) in one. I'm very intrigued with how this is going to work throughout the game.

2. Planning heists. Based on this video you get to a.) pick your crew and b.) decide how you approach a heist. That's impressive.

Wife just pre-ordered the game for me for my birthday.
Thinking this might be the first time I take off work for a video game.

I ike the new way to select a gun. I hated scrolling through everything mid gun fight.

The aiming mechanics seem a lot more fluid. As do driving. The way they were weaving in and out of traffic like that. The car moved like a well car.

Doesn't a lot of this depend on how easily and quickly Rockstar can code the PS4? I'd much rather Rockstar invest their time in making a sandbox game brand new for the PS4 rather than port GTAV. I'm hoping the Red Dead Redemption sequel will be the next Rockstar sandbox PS4 project.

Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players that begins by sharing gameplay features, geography and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but will continue to expand and evolve after its launch with new content created by Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto community. Grand Theft Auto Online takes the fundamental Grand Theft Auto concepts of freedom, ambient activity and mission-based gameplay and makes them available to multiple players in an incredibly detailed and responsive online world.

In Grand Theft Auto Online, players have the freedom to explore alone or with friends, work cooperatively to complete missions, band together to participate in activities and ambient events, or compete in traditional game modes with the entire community, all with the personality and refined mechanics of Grand Theft Auto V.

Players can invest in their character through customizing their appearance, improving their stats, owning customized vehicles, purchasing personal property, and taking part in missions, jobs and activities to earn reputation and cash to open up new opportunities to rise through the criminal ranks. The world of Grand Theft Auto Online will constantly grow and change as new content is added, creating the first ever persistent and dynamic Grand Theft Auto game world.

and i couldn't resist.

this multiplayer looks like it could be a whole separate game itself.

Edit* swiped this from IGN

In an interview with CVG, Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies provided some more detail and context on Grand Theft Auto Online. He stresses that it's "a different entity, a separate thing, and it'll grow on its own. It'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA V. Obviously it's set in the GTA V engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing."

GTA Online will be available two weeks after the launch of GTA V, and will be accessible as an extra character on the "Switch Wheel", right next to Franklin, Michael, and Trevor. It won't require a substantial download, just a code.

And what does the future hold for GTA Online? Tantalisingly, Benzies said, "We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using.

40. "More info on GTA V Online from the CVG Interview (Swipe)"
In response to Reply # 0

http://www.giantbomb.com/grand-theft-auto-v/3030-36765/forums/lots-of-new-gta-online-info-released-from-cvg-1449039/

CVG got 50 minutes hands-on with GTA Online and recounted their experience here. I made a list of the info:

Characters from GTA V will appear in GTA Online
GTA Online will not always be limited to Los Santos; additional locations are in the works

CVG says you can do anything in GTA Online that you can do in GTA V. They list the following: heists, co-op missions, gang attacks, death matches, impromptu deathmatch, races, tennis, golf, base jumping, shooting range, ambient events (hold ups of stores, armored van robberies, crate drops, import/export missions involving car theft, bounties that you can set on other players and people can claim), betting
If you are killed while holding money (CVG says 1million as an example) you will lose a large portion of it, and others can steal it. Use banks to keep money safe

An in-game smartphone can call your friends whether they are in GTA Online or GTA V. You can also use this to set waypoints for your friends. While using the phone, your avatar moves their lips with yours.

While you are driving, you can choose to grant someone else permission over the radio
In-game AI will respond to how aggressive you are on your mic (as in, if you're shouting during a robbery, the AI will react and speed up/become more frightened)

Whoever sets up a heist decides who gets what cut of the final money when that money is obtained

Garages range from two car ports to 10 car ports

Cars can have retractable roofs controlled by the player

Missions can be accessed by physical markers or through a quickmatch sort of menu

User-made missions can be favorited and rated

You can assign other players certain roles in missions based on the particular abilities they have leveled up

You can share cash and ammunition with other players

There are stealth kill animations, possibly with a knife. The game tracks the amount of noise your character is making, and the AI will respond accordingly
You can steal physical items. During the demo, a mission was done in which a bike warehouse was robbed. The bikes had to be transported out in a large truck
"RP" are the points you get to level up your character

You can use physical gestures, such as flipping the bird

All of your info/communications in the game appear in the "Feed." Rockstar mentioned this as a sort of Twitter for GTA Online

You can purchase insurance for your car. By insuring your vehicle, if it gets destroyed or stolen, you can have it replaced by paying a small premium

Police helicopters have cameras mounted to the front of them. In real time, you can watch on live TV (on the news channel in your apartment) players with a high wanted level being chased by the police. There are additional channels with programs such as a crime noir show

Heists can have up to 20 different components. A heist is mentioned where a Titan (largest aircraft) is guarded by "Maryweather" (sp?). The Titan is indeed a flyable aircraft

There is a heli-pad on the roof of (at least) the largest AmmuNation and the store can also be accessed from there

Off the west coast of Los Santos, there is an another island with lots of buildings. This has not been seen before, but the folks at CVG saw it from afar

There is a "passive" mode where you cannot shoot or be shot

No empathy for white misery (c) BDot

impromptu deathmatch? next month cannot come soon enough. online version may trump the actual game. too bad it's limited to 16 people.

I wonder if they'll sale the online version as a stand alone. shit for $60 you're getting GTA of the future. San Andrea cost $50 when it dropped.

this is some next gen shit we thought we were gonna get when the ps3/xbox360 dropped.

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=574819&st=0&#entry1062996480

Tidbits such as that, and other information has been revealed. Here's a compiled list of what the interview bore:

The camera will zoom out and pan away to your online character seamlessly. During the animation, a matchmaking process will be in progress.

Matchmaking will depend on which friends are playing, and what people have ranks near yours.

You can do almost anything you can do in single player in GTA Online.

Each mission requires a rank depending on difficulty and complexity. The bigger your rank, the more difficult the missions will be.

There are around 700 missions in GTA Online.

Missions will be ordered randomly as you play Online.

For certain heists you might need certain weapons, vehicles or characters such as a sniper or a driver. This will also depend on the mission creator if you download the mission from the Social Club.

Some missions are so complex they need plenty of good communication.

There will be descriptions to help each character on its heist function.

You can change weather, time of day, time you want it to rain or to be a certain weather state, radio station to be tuned at the start of the race or mission in the Content Creator.

There is something called "team lives". If you have 4 team lives and 4 people, if everyone dies there will be 0 lives left, or if you die 4 times, the team will have 0 lives left, which means if anyone dies, it's mission failed.

You can watch races and deathmatches on your apartment TV.

There are masks to hide from the cops.

The Online will be run on the Social Club servers, data will be stored on the cloud. There are datacenters from NY to San Diego, and more Rockstar studios.

"We have 15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score. It's the largest soundtrack that we've done, and the largest score that we've done."

stations I'm psyched for: East LOS FM with those narcocorridos, Rebel Radio hosted by fuckin' Jesco White (K-Rose ended up being my go-to station in San Andreas), and of course the Flying Lotus station full of new, unreleased music. That soundtracking idea sounds pretty interesting too, the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack was amazing and it'll be real interesting to hear Gangrene's idea of a soundtrack.

that added grittiness to GTA IV, giving everything in GTA V a slightly more cartoonish, plastic look. People have done breakdowns of the facial detail on Niko vs. any of the three GTA V characters and said there's not as much stuff going on there as before.

Most things I've heard about the game make it sound like it'll run a little smoother than GTA IV despite being so much larger because they've scaled back on some of the smaller details. But I don't know anything about computer processing so that could all be phooey.

and they could be putting a lot of money into optimization, so it's entirely possible that it will run a little better. but i think the same thing happened with the delay of IV and we all saw that it didn't run particularly well. also it's rockstar and it seems like performance is generally the last thing on their minds when it comes to a game (not counting rockstar table tennis :P)

66. "Relevant: IGN discusses how GTA V takes from other Rockstar games"
In response to Reply # 60

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/05/grand-theft-auto-v-the-sum-of-all-peers

One of the interesting things about Rockstar’s Manhunt is that, in some ways, it was actually our first taste of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Rockstar incorporated several elements of the gunplay and targeting controls of Manhunt into GTA: San Andreas, and the game was made all the better for it.

Good ideas have a history of finding their way into the GTA series.

Manhunt, a focused, third-person, stealth-based game, needed robust combat mechanics suitable for the job; simply leaning on controls plucked from GTA: Vice City was not going to suffice. When it was clear Manhunt’s controls were superior, it was only natural a version of said controls migrated to GTA: SA.

It may be an old example (Manhunt was released in November 2003; it wasn’t yanked from shelves in Australia until September 2004 so, yes, we did play it!) but it’s a relevant reminder of how good ideas have a history of finding their way into the GTA series.

GTA V cranks this philosophy up to 11. The way in which both minor and major elements from the rest of Rockstar’s stable have snowballed inside GTA V is brilliant. The result is a GTA as you know it but spliced with the field-tested DNA from a fistful of Rockstar’s existing hits.

The result is a GTA as you know it but spliced with the field-tested DNA from a fistful of Rockstar’s existing hits.

The effects of everything GTA V has learned from the likes of Max Payne 3, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, and Red Dead Redemption (among others) on the moment to moment gameplay is actually quite profound.

It’s when you begin to feel these somewhat familiar systems working in tandem together in GTA V that you appreciate just how heavily honed everything has been. Suddenly you’re prone on the wing of an aircraft, changing guns with a weapon wheel that cut its teeth in Red Dead Redemption and rolling onto your back in one fluid movement to fire at pursuers, just like Max in Max Payne 3. One minute you’re drifting around a bend in a car you’ve personally customised, appreciating the new, more nuanced handling and utilising Franklin’s special ability to temporarily slow down time to pull off insane driving manoeuvres (extremely reminiscent of Midnight Club: Los Angeles’ ‘Zone’ ability). The next you’re narrowly avoiding an animal grazing by the roadside – an animal that may or may not have appeared in GTA V were it not for the work already achieved with wildlife in Red Dead Redemption.

Of course, there were no sharks in Red Dead Redemption...

Allowing several of GTA V’s key pillars to be informed by gameplay elements of many of Rockstar’s already successful games makes for an experience where no one thing feels marginalised or ignored. What you don’t get, for instance, is a situation where the shooting is great but the driving is phoned-in, or a situation where the vehicles are top fun but the on-foot action is ropey. You get a game that feels like it’s firing on all cylinders at all times.

No one thing feels marginalised or ignored... You get a game that feels like it's firing on all cylinders at all times.

The witchcraft at work getting all these elements to play nice under one roof is a mystery and the fact that, during my several hours with the game, it was achieved with nary a technical hitch or framerate flutter to speak of is exceedingly admirable. Rockstar North associate technical director and combat designer Phil Hooker hopes gamers will immediately feel the improvements.

“We would hope that what gamers will notice overall is everything is much tighter, more consistent, more fluid and more intuitive,” he says. “Pretty much every mechanic has been heavily reworked to try and make the player need to think less about the mechanics, and more about what they are doing, so that they become more immersed in the world and the situations they are in as they play.

“The player should easily be able to pull off cool moves so they feel really part of the action. For example, driving has been completely reworked so it’s much more responsive and direct, allowing controllable handbrake turns and adding in a little bit of wheelspin at exciting moments, whilst still allowing the player to keep full control. The same is true of shooting, core locomotion and pretty much every system in the game.

“Lots of time and effort went into the combination of shooting, targeting, animation and camerawork: Grand Theft Auto is about spontaneous, classic action shootouts. We think players will appreciate being about to run and shoot comfortably from the hip, and the new transitions in and out of cars and in and out of cover. There are a range of new customisable targeting options as well.

“Every refinement – from the physical reactions to being shot, to much more intelligent combat A.I., to the depth and variety of the ambient world, to gunplay mechanics, to player climbing and vaulting in the world – should add up to a ton of large and small changes to the way the game plays and feels. We’re excited to see what gamers make of everything!”

We're just excited to fly over Los Santos again.

Combined with the endlessly emergent possibilities of GTA V’s richly detailed and thriving world, the combination of these reworked mechanics and the unpredictability of the game’s world simulation makes GTA V a real coiled-spring of fun potential.

“With a game like GTA, you can’t really force those kind of spectacular moments on the player,” says producer and lead mission designer Imran Sarwar. “What you can do, is design a mission to create the possibility for them to happen.”

“There are days we come into work wishing we made games in corridors, and only let the players use a really limited toolset, but GTA isn’t like that. We build these big open worlds with bikes, and cars, and trucks, and planes in it and we want the player to use them and mess around with them and hopefully create these really amazing moments themselves.

“As a gamer, I always feel a bit cheated when you’re forced into something, or a big set piece moment is just a quick time event. We have big set piece sections of gameplay but it still feels organic and the player will feel in control. It always feels so much better if you’ve created it yourself, so that’s what we tried to do here. There are so many systems at work in the missions with the player at the centre of them, acting unpredictably – we tried to create a world in which these moments can arise naturally, and we look forward to seeing what players do with these systems when they get their hands on the game.”

And the guns, of course.

The end result is something that, to myself, feels more "next-generation" than most the titles coming out on PS4 and Xbox One later this year. IGN UK’s Daniel Krupa will be going into more detail on this topic in the coming days but, to me, there isn’t really anything in the PS4-Xbox One launch line-ups that matches the gameplay scope displayed here in GTA V.

“When we started we knew the scope of GTA V was huge and incredibly ambitious,” says Hooker. “Fortunately from completing GTA IV we had a team that was already very familiar with the hardware.

“Every aspect of the game had to be better, richer in gameplay and more fluid and knowing we were launching on the same platforms meant we could focus on extracting the most out of those consoles and making the game as fantastic as possible.

“In the end we surpassed our own expectations and during development I think everyone working on the game has been astounded by improvements to the graphics, or new mechanics, or AI, or mission scope along the way. Hopefully the gamers will see all of these improvements at once in one go, compared to GTA IV this definitely feels 'next generation' to us.”

"With Trevor onboard, it’s harder for Franklin to cavil, and so I amble into the back of Trevor’s van, along with Lamar and his faithful Rottweiler, Chop. It doesn’t take long to reach the heart the hood – Franklin clearly hasn’t moved that far away. It’s a familiar cul-de-sac, intimidatingly fringed by rundown houses and shifty huddles of gang members – it’s Grove Street, the home of San Andreas’s protagonist, CJ. And the gang we’re negotiating with for a kilo of coke? The Ballas."

especially considering that it hasn't even been announced yet :/

the actual game will be the same (possibly better because it should run really well on pc and that should make for a more immersive experience) regardless of when i play it but i really hate that i'm going to miss the "shared experience" phenomenon this time. gta games are cultural touchstones and part of that is playing the game at the same time everyone else does, sharing anecdotes, watching yt vids of other people's experience with the game, etc.. it's going to be odd to completely miss out on that for the first time. and typing all of that has made me realize that i may give in and get the 360 version next week

Agnostic probably til the day I die, but God bless the mom and pop stores that broke the street date for this, at least that's what I'm assuming must have happened here. Must feel great to play the game this weekend when the general public has to wait until Tuesday just to sniff the plastic casing.

They really bungled this from the start. Does anyone know if Playstation Plus can auto-download purchases?

But them changing their message on this two or three times in just one weekend was pretty frustrating considering how long PSN's download times are (The Last of Us was actually pretty damn good, so here's my fingers crossed).

(UPDATE) A Rockstar Games representative told Joystiq that anyone who preordered GTAV through the PlayStation Network in the United States will not be able to preload the game at all.

"It's not our call," the representative noted.

(UPDATE 2) The official PlayStation Europe Twitter account clarified this afternoon that users in that region will be able to preload GTAV beginning at 3 p.m. GMT on Sunday, September 15.

(UPDATE 3) The official Rockstar Games Twitter channel now says that gamers in Europe can preload GTAV through the PSN starting at 3 p.m. BST on Sunday, September 15. Players in the United States can preload the game beginning at 3 a.m. EDT on Monday, September 16.

(UPDATE 4) Rockstar has said the earlier announcement of a PS3 preload in North America was "incorrect" and that the game will not launch on the US PlayStation Network until 12am Eastern Time on September 17.

Haven't played since Vice City, only because I didn't want my son playing them, so I've missed a lot (though I bought the GTA package on Steam not too long ago, since he can't get on my PC). While I would rather have this on PC, it seems much too big a game to miss, so I'll have to treat this one like a porn stash and keep it somewhere safe.

So GTA's long-running parody of sexism and misogyny by cartoonishly blowing it out of proportion isn't clearly satire because they never say "Hey, don't really do this stuff"?

If we're being fair, it ends at "this isn't the game to use to spark that discussion".

Being fair means we actually give it points for taking a creative, whimsical approach to the subject that quite clearly is meant to be tongue in cheek. Being fair means we (and she) isn't taking points away because the franchise doesn't stop winking long enough to spell it out for the deaf, dumb, blind, or nitpicky game reviewers. That would completely undermine the point of the parody to begin with.

It's like demanding comedians give a disclaimer that none of the shit they talk about is true. Explaining to someone that Anthony Jeslnecks granny didn't really die at his 9th birthday party while eating birthday cake as a result of his birthday wish completely castrates the humor of the joke.

Anyone that needs this shit spelled out for them on some arbitrary shit is a humorless dunce of an asshole who doesn't deserve an explanation anyways.

slide without that same morality lecture she apparently is looking for when it comes to the treatment of women in the game. Racist stereotyping? Homophobia? Glorification of substance abuse? She realizes that is all satire and part of the series charm. But sexism! THATS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE!

Get off it lady.

And her complaint about the inconsistent political messages, well, that's been a hallmark of GTA, too. They ride the middle of the line and take shots at both sides, like a video-game South Park. Why is she looking at GTA to be a liberal anti-war mouth piece?

But more to the point, why is that crap in a review for a video game?

I can't think of a redeeming quality of any one main female character or quest giver. Even Brucie gets a chance to kinda reverse-redeem himself by gaining some sympathy.

And she's right. GTA has an issue with addressing sexism toward women (Maibatsu Monstrosity commercials were good at tuning into the BIG MAN NEED BIG CAR narrative and how ridiculous it is yet they don't underscore how wrong sexism and misogyny toward women is wrong.)

She doesn't even have an issue with the misogyny in the game persay. She has a problem with the way it's addressed. It's almost as if it's just left out there to fester rather than some script beat to say how ridiculous some of the shit sounds when it's addressed.

I mean. Men can stomp and cry about feminists (or just women, overall) all they want but they do make up a large chunk of the gaming populace. Might as well address it somehow.

Sidenote: She doesn't even mention what political message she's expecting or wants. She's just saying that it's inconsistent. It's probably reflective of our society as well as a meta satire joke (because America is the most politically hypocritical nation in the world) but like I said above, I haven't played it yet.

I'll see I guess.

i'm out.

other than the annoying dating thing that was just the designers getting a cool thing horribly wrong. CJ's sister in San Andreas had nothing wrong with her, at least in comparison to her brother.

Her problems seem to stem from there not being, yet, a central female character that the plot is centered around in some way. The same was said about gay characters until Tony's expansion game, so maybe it's coming with this universe of games. But it's never misogyny for the sake of it as she seems to think; there is plot around it and there is character development (mainly how screwed up these guys are) and there is satire in how over the top some of the sexism is, at least in my reading of it.

That said, I was 30 minutes in last night and had to turn it off because I didn't feel right playing it in front of my wife.

we weren't together when GTA4 came out, so i don't think she's seen the "i'm going to do nothing but inflict pain on random people for 10+ minutes for yuks" side of me.

Kate: Played the girlfriend of the main character and really...she was simply used as somebody to die when it came to you making your final two choices. If she was taken out of the game, it would be easy to replace her. She was more set dressing than anything.

CJ's sister: I agree here. Although most of her motivation and storyline revolved around and was directly impacted by another man she was written really well. She played the perfect foil to CJ. Almost kinda playing the audience member that doesn't play GTA at all. She was good.

Aside from that, you don't see a lot of female characters in games (or TV or film) that have motivations and motives that don't involve another man. I'm not saying that's wrong but it's one-sided. The two main characters I've played in GTAV are motivated by money but primarily the need to find a place in the world. Female characters seem to be motivated and directly controlled by the male counterpart's actions.

It's unfortunate because I'm pretty sure if they tried, GTA could pass the Bechdel test with ease.

i'm out.

I haven't even played the game yet.

She still gave it a 9 out of 10 so the outrage is, of course with gamers, not even that justified.

If gaming entertainment is going to looked at as an art medium, a theme and a message should be up to the standard as your favorite TV show, movie or album (unless you love shitty entertainment).

Also, with such a story driven game such as GTA, I'm thinking it comes from a credible place. How many times have lesser games gotten that treatment (the story, themes, plot) and had more points knocked off for it?

Again. I haven't played it so I can't say if I can agree or disagree. But this is a reviewer that probably plays ten times as many games as us because it's her job.

And considering the tritagonist angle they're going for, I bet the themes jumbled at that intersection between those three characters.

i'm out.

@mfw For optimal performance, we recommend not installing that disc. We will have more info on our Support Site at launch.

-----------

http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/xbox-360-owners-don-t-install-grand-theft-auto-v-s/1100-4735/

Some performance issues if you go beyond the mandatory install.

Installing and playing Xbox 360 games has become more complicated as this generation has gone on, especially when games ship on multiple discs. With Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games is now warning players to avoid installing the game’s “play” disc.

The company issued the warning on its Rockstar Support account on Twitter, promising more details are coming soon.

GTA V comes with both an 8GB install disc and a separate “play” disc on Xbox 360. That initial 8GB install is required, and while you can optionally install the second “play” disc, Rockstar recommends against that for performance reasons. Once the mandatory install is over, the player does not have to ever swap discs.

It’s unclear if Rockstar can fix this issue with a patch or not. We’ll have to wait and see.

------------

here's a video detailing the performance issues:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0gPB0gdoOM

------------

pretty annoying. looks like you have to choose between dealing with some significant pop-in or the noise of the 360 fan

I haven't gotte nto fire it up yet, download was taking too long last night, but...

if that's the case, I could see this being some trouble for Rockstar if they can't get a patch out there. I'll let you know what I think in a half hour or so.

Yep, intro has all the same issues as a fully installed 360 game. Shit.

In response to Reply # 102

Looked like everything I saw was saying install the mandatory disc to the xbox hd and play the game off the play disc.

My xbox drive is maxed out, but I have plenty of space via usb drives so was hoping install to usb and play the disc normally (I don't mind the xbox super-fan noise haha).

Or I could get it for PS3, but I typically prefer to roll with the 360.

everything about the game is pretty much a given. you know how it will play. you know what the shooting and driving will feel like. you know that you will receive missions in which you will do outlandish things as requested by crazy characters

imo what makes gta games so engaging is the fact that they seem to induce the concept of "avatar involvement"/"getting lost in the game"/"forgetting you're playing a game"/etc. more effectively than any other game. this is accomplished by rockstar creating a highly believable world for you to explore, and letting you do pretty much whatever you want to in that world. you're not beholden to any narrative if you don't want to be. some other games offer this experience but none do it as well as the gta series

>cool, that's what i figured

>replicate it yet

that is interesting. i'm pretty sure it can be boiled down to the fact that rockstar is given tons of money and time to create believable worlds and that they are experts at doing it, having done it for so long. i can't really say for certain why rockstar has the magic touch but i do know that part of it is their obsessive attention to detail. the amount of *things* created for this game is absolutely staggering, and i've only scratched the surface of it. again, all of this feeds into inducing the "getting lost in this game feeling", which is also enhanced by the fact that it is set in a familiar environment (modern day), and how that serves the mechanics of the game, and how the mechanics feed into our inherent need to learn how to do stuff (which is why we play games), etc. i could go on forever about this but i won't

>i'll check to see if this is on xbla, maybe i'll just go head
>and cop now and dig in when i have more bandwidth

i talked myself out of waiting for the pc version earlier in this thread and i don't regret it at all. that said, the game will be essentially identical now and 12 months from now, so if you feel like you can and/or want to hold off, go for it

I noticed this early on after GTA3 came out. I can't remember if it was during VIce City or San Andreas that True Crime: Streets Of LA was out. I remember playing it and liking a few things, the city was bigger than anything i'd seen in GTA up to that point but it was dull. I wouldn't get to know the individual neighborhoods. that was my biggest fear when GTAIV came out, that it would be so massive it would lose that feeling on knowing the layout like the back of my hand. It took longer for me to get used to GTAIV, but it still happened, unlike other sandbox games where i don't think they put as much detail into their individual neighborhoods.

-the number of buildings you can enter still leaves you wanting more. I see so many buildings i wish i can rob.

-Cinematic view is a button now, i preferred selecting the cam option and not having to hold circle/B down.

-i miss being able to switch weapons by pressing left and right, tho i understand why with the additional options that has opened up.

-really really wish i can get classic controller settings, this is the first GTA that's forced me to use the triggers as gas/break. sometimes when i hit corners i instinctively press square which does nothing but change your weapon i think.

besides that, i'm having a hard time finding things i don't like. I'm about 8 hours in, it's been hard to put this game down.

also the lighting in this game is fan-fucking-tastic

it controls a little more slugglishly than i remember and there are some serious AA issues to get used to but otherwise it looks and plays fine. it's all very convincing as a game world and that's all you really want from a gta game

After meeting up with Lester and doing his hacker thing, I flip to Franklin and hit up the deep discount store and drop about a grand on streetwear. Head back home, park the car in garage, grab Chop and take him for a walk around the block. Coming through the alleyway back onto my street, this dude tears by me in an 80s muscle car and slams into a telephone pole, sandwiched by a pair of cop cars in the process (with a helicopter in pursuit overhead, the floodlight bearing down suddenly on all of us).

The dudes that survive the crash are popping out the windows and all the Grove Street Fam up and down the block are running towards the crash; I take cover behind a fence like any citizen just trying to walk his dog. The shootout lasted about five minutes and ended with four cops dead against my neighbor's fence and six gangsters lying dead in the middle of the street. I drop Chop off at his kennel, sleep it off then call Lamar.

I take out my aggression on the OG Stretch and we head out for a drug deal, which goes wrong of course. After an intense factory shootout and with a potential gang war breaking out between CGF and the Ballas, I plop down next to my aunt, turn on the TV and smoke a pair of doobies while I watch a documentary about Leonora Johnson's murder.

And now suddenly I look out the window and the sun is up. Better see what Michael's up to.

edit: also, you definitely want to keep an eye on your Bleeter feed if you're really into the getting sucked into a world thing. Awesome to do something and then see it show up in your phone with a bunch of reactions later, even from people directly involved.

I think I like this already better than IV.

it's still an utterly amazing game but I'm getting Vice City level glitches here, whole streets and buildings jumping in and out of invisibility while I'm right next to them, street signs, fire hydrants and such appearing just as I run over them. I even took a shortcut off the road into some grass only to have a fence spawn in as I was driving through it's space, sealing my car inside the fence structure even though it was just a chain link.

I really, really hope Rockstar can do something about this for anyone that installs both discs or buys a digital copy.

But it's also a testament to this game how excited I am for them to figure it out, because I'm about 50% through according to the stats page and I'm already contemplating my next play.

When you've got a game that pushes the hardware like this, it's to be expected I guess.

Just imagine what Rockstar is going to be able to to with the new consoles. I'd bet on a next gen Red Dead sequel before too long.

The time it takes to watch your opponent reset themselves in tennis is annoying, especially when you can zoom to the next point if there is a celebration cut-scene between points. The physics/shotplacement seem totally random, too.

Golf physics are all wrong, too, and arbitrary, especially with the putting.

Good ideas, but about as pointless as the mini-games in Red Dead.

Did anything pop up indicating that was a side mission or were the guys given icons on the little side map indicating they were specialized characters or was this a total random occurance?

This is what I keep complaining about, just start it about halfway when they show a clip of speeding down a highway into a crowded intersection. That concrete barrier thing has happened to me - not often, maybe only five or six times, but it's enough man. It's enough.

*Spoilers if you havent "unlocked" Trevor yet*

When we first are introduced to Trevor... you guys realize that was Johnny Klebitz, from The Lost and the Damned that he kills? That was so unexpected to see him, and then to die so quickly was fucked up. He was one of the more likable characters in the GTA universe, so it was interesting that Rockstar wrote his death as an introduction to Trevor... its like they were saying, you're not gonna like this guy, but you have to play as him (could also say that about the torture scene). Yet Trevor is a fan favorite.

I just dont think a lot of people realized who Johnny was since it has been a while and we last saw him in Libery City.... but damn, he could have got a better send off than brains on the shoe.

usually something changes, and there's a profit listing by each of your stocks that lets you know what you'd gain or lose if you sold.

In response to Reply # 171

Listen to Lester's descriptions of each mission. Before you complete the mission, buy up the stock of each competitor.

The Hotel Hit - Buy BetaPharma
The Juror Assassinations - Buy Debonaire DEB
The Vice Hit - Buy iFruit

I haven't done any of them past this though. After you complete the missions, check the stocks and they'll grow. Then you sell whenyou want.

Listen to the radio stations too for stock tips. Lester I think will give you stock tips. If it mentions a corporation, make a mental note of it and act accordingly.

The BAWSAQ I don't even mess with because it's connected to the Social Club and it's having shitty difficulties at the current time. I play around with the LCN stocks.

People say that blowing up vehicles belonging to a certain company affects stock value but from what I've noticed, it does nothing.

If a mission involves destroying a company building or CEO of a corporation, look who would be the rival to that corp and Invest in them. There's a list somewhere of competitors but I can't find them because I can't go on game sites at work.

Found this though: http://i.imgur.com/3Xr2jSt.jpg

On top of everything else going on in this game, including the character switching engine? Scary to think what Rockstar will do with the PS4 hardware. I'm hoping Red Dead will be the next sandbox game from Rockstar. And that they are working on it as I am wasting time at work. Now.

Sorry for sounding like a newbie, but I just cracked the game open last night and just scratched the surface of it.

go to the "impound" icon on your map and search a bit and you should find some. just don't go past the "authorized personnel only signs"

still looking for hidden weapon spots. haven't found any yet. maybe rockstar removed that feature

also still looking for helicopters. i've made it to the roof of quite a few buildings and have even found a few helipads but no copters just yet. i did manage to steal a private jet from the los stantos airport (it was one of the first things i did in this game) but almost immediately crashed it into the ocean because apparently franklin isn't that good at flying

thanks. went back to the garage from the first franklin mission -- there was a light vest in one of the garages you searched -- but it wasn't there again.

>still looking for hidden weapon spots. haven't found any yet.

you get to keep your guns when you're wasted. busted, too, but they take your ammo. with that in mind, i'm guessing they dropped the random weapons on the map because what's the point.

i still miss the random police bribes laying around. cops don't play in this version.

You can find one in the richer part of town, the street that is supposed to be Rodeo Drive (I think it's a Bijan reference, as he was known to park his on the street in front of his boutique).

If you steal it as Michael and keep it in your garage you can randomly switch to him and he'll be in the garage, waking up with the music blaring.

Things get a bit outta hand, next thing I know I had the shottie pulled out with three dead bodies next to me and the shop assistant going apeshit. Cops promptly rolled in before I could dash and popped two in my chest.

It's the same for any of the training schools, you don't really see the boosts 'til the end of the curriculum.

edit: thoguh I'm sure you could slowly grind your way up the ladder before unlocking all the different weapon types if you were truly dedicated.

to play this and damn, this game is gorgeous. I suppose it's mainly because of the 8 GB pre-load, but I haven't noticed the the habit where the game seems to slow down to render the land in the horizon that I've noticed even up til GTA IV. I also like the level of humor I've seen so far in this game; that was sorely lacking in GTA IV. I've only played about 4 or 5 hours into the game, so I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface of the game, but the land looks to be gigantic. Does this game still have the hidden packages for item unlocks? If so, it's going to be a game unto itself to find them with how much land there is.

**edit**

Also, to change the radio stations while driving a car and see all the stations at once, hold down on the left d-pad button and all the radio stations will pop-up on the screen. You can then select which ever radio station you want with the right analog joystick. I don't remember if this was spelled out via the in game directions, but I discovered this by accident. Also, while all the radio stations are on the screen, driving time slows down, so you can scan through the stations without the risk of crashing your car. Figured I'd give folks a little but of a heads up since only tapping on the left d-pad to scroll through radio stations is a bit much to handle while driving, especially on missions.

Few things:

- The vision cone thing is long time coming. It almost made no sense that a cop could see me pass behind him and it would just make my wanted area active again in GTA4. Use that. I've been able to get out of my car, stealth behind a cop car, jump over a fence and steal a car in an alley and escape.

- If there are gangs nearby you, go near them. They'll be more interested in shooting cops than you. I've set up traps where the police would drive past a group, I stop, get out of the car and just dip down an alley. When they get out of the car, the gangs just fuck em up and I bounce after.

- Police are smarter this time. They'll do PIT maneuvers and flank you quickly. They'll do more than just pull up in front of you now. You can't get away with just ramming a car and bouncing. You have to make sure your driving skill is up. Or use Franklin's ability, that shit works.

- Your icon is solid when the cops have identified you. That's when they magically can just find you in the streets. In that case, take alleyways and non marked shortcuts. Your icon will go transparent (it just looks dark grey) if you hide in bushes or something and the police will just do a random search for you while you still have stars. At this point, you can ditch your car, take another one and drive off. The stars can disappear quicker when you do this.

- Apparently, if you're in stealth mode when you steal a car, you do a silent breakin rather than a loud one. I haven't tested this. Somebody mentioned doing it accidentally at work.

- Break the line of sight and escape to a parking garage or underpass if there's a chopper overhead.

- Unless it's warranted, don't get into a chase on a motorcycle unless you have Franklin and his ability. You're just asking for death.

i'm out.

aww, but it's fun as hell while it lasts. i pulled up next to a squad car parked alongside the highway, whipped out my piece and put a bullet in the windshield. automatic three stars and i tore the fuck out of there.

it was all good while driving down the coastal highway weaving in and out of cars, but as soon as i got into town i was doomed. swerved out the way of one car, up on to the sidewalk, gave a laugh of nervous relief as i couldn't believe my luck, then rear-ended some bastard and went flying. good times.

I've only played very early on into the game, but escaping the police has been very very easy compared to the other GTA games because the Cali roads in this game are very long and straight, at least on the highway. I've only had to deal with three star police chases, so that could be why it's been easy so far. The Franklin mission where you get double crossed by gang member wearing purple wasn't that hard, even with the helicopter presence. The copter wasn't an issue though because out of being nervous, I shot it out the sky as soon as I got out the building with one of the automatic riffles dropped by the shot up gang bangers in the building.

I wonder what the artilery will look like for four star and above police/FBI/army type pursuits. I'm guessing having to escape driving slower, heavier vehicles after heists could be a challenge.

It's easy as hell in Blaine County, nearly impossible in the city.

It drug out a lot because I went down into the aqueducts, lost my car, ended up swimming around a port with no way to get back on solid ground, but if I dunked under water they couldn't find me until I got near the surface. By the end of the whole thing I was sweating hard as hell, and mad at myself for getting killed stranded in the water in the end.

It all started with a simple random security truck robbery, but I stopped to get a Sprunk for health before I drove off and that animation gave the cops enough time to catch up. Then the chase spiraled out of control 'cause I had grenades equipped instead of an uzi so when I went to shoot some cops I ended up dropping about three grenades and blowing up half the 405 lmao.

-Chakra dude is funny for awhile but his bit is way too long and it's just too much rambling.

-I'm sick and fucking tired of Fernando at this point. No mas. His schtick is just annoying at this point, even with the new angle.

-More Lazlo, which is usually a good thing, but thus far I'm bored to tears with it.

Why not bring back the SA cast?

I Say, You Say?
The Wild Traveler?
The New World Order?

Nope. Nowhere to be found.

this shit sucks. Hell, they could have hired Phil Hendrie and done some truly amazing shit with the talk station this time out, but instead we get this bullshit.

Oh, and only one talk station from what I can see, which is odd.

but it is the one I hear all the time. I don't get tired of it 'cause of that girl's weird vocal mixing and, like, totally whatever vibe, but I agree with dude that the talk radio is more like noise you'd put on in the background than something to pay close attention to, which is a bit of a letdown.

Honestly, I feel like I'm always hearing the same songs on the radio anyway. I could almost call out each station for the two or three songs I'm always hearing.

This isn't as nearly as big a deal, but I was playing as Lester and was driving to the redneck area of Los Santos Trevor is from for a side mission. The land is so big that listing of available radio stations changed. Little details like that plus the fact I haven't gotten any of the little graphical glitches that usually plague the Rockstar sandbox games amaze me.

In response to Reply # 0

Every main character of the main games has been a relatively straight ahead "every man" type who just so happens be a criminal without a fuck to give.

Trevor can't even be described as a loose cannon, because he knows exactly what he's doing. Sure, he's crazy in terms of his actions, but he seems to have all his marbles. To be that aggressive, psychotic, and calculated is a beautiful mix. He's not much for planning outside of "I'm coming to fuck you up!" and that's refreshing. He's easily the greatest bad ass in a GTA game I can recall. His initial missions are just him on some Rambo shit with two pussies as back up.

His quotes are excellent too.

"I understand your pain, friends! I'm here to offer a way out!"

When asked if he was coming, he tells Bob (or whatever that dudes name is, can't recall at the time) he's going to cum in his eye when he sees him.

Who the fuck writes this shit?

Oh, and he's easily the character whose wardrobe I have the most fun with.

The three character dynamic itself is a breath of fresh air. I wind up engrossed in each characters story for long stretches, made longer because I spend so much time running around punching people with that new haymaker to see how many I can get to chase me before I pull the shotty on everyone.

I played his introduction a few times just because I loved the dialogue. I'm still early in the game but Trevor has definitely been the highlight. From comedy to just the overall character personality. He's well written and we'll acted.

makes me cringe on a moral level, which I guess is the point of the character. I do like when you switch to him from other characters to see what kind of madness he is involved in. One time I switched to him and he was in the middle of a two star police chase. Luckily it was near the desert-like part of the game, so it was easy for me to evade to cops by going off-road.

These heists are so good. That blatant Heat homage heist (It's the third one, if I'm not mistaken) was great too. Even had you destroy the garbage truck and get in another get away car.

Trevor is the shit. Every time I switch over to him, he's in a fuckin car chase or beating up a homeless person. SMH.

Where is Compton? Is Innocence Boulevard the in game Rosecranz? Which street is Crenshaw? Where is Slauson?

I'm trying to set trip next time I boot up.

i'm doing the missions in a very different order to maximize my dollars.

i'm glad i made the right decision when it came down to the last mission. that last heist + the wrap up was just too awesome. i couldn't keep the big ass smile off my face through that whole sequence. i'm curious to see how the other two endings play out though.

Trevor IS the GOAT GTA character.

In response to Reply # 0

I'm switching to free aim for this one. Had a pretty hard time with the mission where Frank, Lamar and Stretch got set up in the warehouse. Probably just need to get used to it as I don't play shooters of any type that much, although I don't remember the Uncharted series being this difficult to aim...

In response to Reply # 238

I'm a terrible aim anyways as I haven't played many third person games other than SOCOM, inFamous, Uncharted and IDK what else that were shooting oriented, but something just feels so rewarding about being able to flick back and forth between different targets, and really helps with not losing guys as they flank you. I definitely miss the limb targeting you could do with the GTA4/RDR template (where moving the right stick didn't instantly break your auto-lock so you could flick between headshots instead of just body shots) but overall, I can't imagine finishing most of these missions without the auto-lock. You're so vulnerable.

I'm sure my mind will be blown open by how good of shots people are online but for now I'm perfectly happy.

(yeah, I'm sidetracking finishing it just to do the jumps)
the outbound one, if you land on the overpass, it's a completion, but the inbound, where are you supposed to land? Is it supposed to actually be a loop, landing on the other ramp? I've landed on the roof of the parking garage, i've cleared the damn terminal, I've landed all over the roof of the airport...all fails.

just fucking around w/ franklin, I eventually shot a cop, then had al oooong getaway, eventually I switched cars into one of those brinks trucks.

so I'm driving, they blew out my tires but I'm still going, they can't stop me bc the truck is too big, and they can't shoot me bc it's bulletproof.

I jumped the truck off a highway overpass, down into the aqueducts, switched cars again to a sedan, drove the aqueducts till I was close to the ocean and boom, dude sitting on a jetski. I jacked the jetski, rode it out to the ocean, dodged choppers and police boats until I went around the pier nd back into those tunnels you do on michael's mission w/ his daughter.

lost the police in the tunnels and hid there till my 4 stars cleared.

BOOM

shit was epic as fuck, if I could've shot down another chopper while I was on the jetski I'd have gone to 5 stars

Crazy to think these aren't next gen graphics. I won't spoil too much, but there were two times, once on a main mission and once on a side mission when my palms were sweating because of how high the camera got when you ascended into the clouds.

Also just did a side mission that briefly mentioned the Vibram Five Fingers. Crazy crazy game.

Few things:

- What choice did yall make near the end? I did option C because I didn't wanna paint myself into not being able to complete any missions with one of the characters dead.

- The last big heist was cool as hell but wasn't challenging enough. The Merryweather gunfight under the bridge was pretty damned cool enough though. The chase had some WTF parts but overall I was a bit underwhelmed.

- Is this storymode shorter than others or am I thinking it's because the game is really good at guiding you into story missions? The previous ones had so many distractions that the story seemed longer but there are several missions where you answer a phone and you're forced into a mission. I guess it's a matter of design so you can get to exploring the city.

- So many things to do. As Michael, I hung out with Trevor at the movies and got drunk. They had some words, especially after everything that went down.

- Buy Los Santos Customs in Sandy Shores. Free upgrades. I think only Franklin can buy it (rightfully so since he has the most useful special ability).

- The car crushing facility is awesome too. Every car destroyed it earned 150 bucks. I've been going out as Franklin, armoring my car up and sticky bombing mad cars. Earned about 35k in one week because I went on an epic rampage.

- Cheat codes are up. However, you can't save them in your phone. Which kinda sucks if you just wanna ride around and cause mayhem.

i'm out.

C for similar reasons. Franklin also felt marginalized through the final third of the story and I didn't feel like he had strong enough feelings one way or the other toward both characters (though his initial reaction to Trevor was to kill him, you might recall).

In general I felt like the first heist was the best of them, which was a little disappointing. I missed the feel of meticulously planning (dropping a getaway car somewhere away from the crime is a GREAT feature, though I believe that was heist 3 or 4?) and leveling your crew seemed pretty unimportant considering they actually didn't come along for many missions, and if you get Packie you're never hurting for muscle unless there's a chance Mota can die.

Good to know, I haven't found a lot of ways to make good money post-game since I did the Lester missions during the main storyline.

Always impressive enough what people will think of trying to do in a GTA game (have you seen that BMX highlight video?! I HAD to boot the game up and spawn a bike right after), but when Rockstar meets them halfway with an actual in-universe solution? Amazing.

That is to say, I’m not even remotely concerned with beating it. In fact.. I don’t want to. Not yet, anyways. I’m going through Trevors strangers & freaks missions, and cruising around for random events. I’m about 30% through the game, and I’ll be doing either Franklin or Michaels strangers & freaks next, while cruising for random events.

I keep going back to the gun range for some practice, and I keep going back to Trevors rampages to get those high scores. I’ll get back to the story for awhile before going back to exploring and messing around. I keep trying to perfect my chase skills, trying to last as long as possible running from the cops. I head to Grove Street on a regular basis just to start shit by bumping into someone. I’ve spent some long binges just goofing off.

Anyone else taking the scenic route *before* beating it?

I suppose it makes good sense to beat it and then go exploring, but I’m trying to let this thing burn slow.

From everything I've read about that thing, that's where I'll want to sink all my post-game time anyway.

I'm at 78-80% on the single player and if everything works out as I expect, I probably won't touch that stuff again for quite a few weeks.

that first 10 or so hours where you are constantly discovering landmarks and absorbing the sounds and sights of the game world is the best part of every gta imo

>Anyone else taking the scenic route *before* beating it?

there is actually a set of "scenic route" missions towards the end of the game. i'm convinced that exploration of the world is a mechanic of GTA V (just like the driving and shooting mechanics) but i don't know how prove it. one of the things that really makes the game world convincing is the fact that there are zero (approaching zero) repeated buildings throughout the whole of the game world and that should be observed (literally and figuratively) by everyone who plays this game. the fact that (nearly?) every building is unique does so much work in convincing the player that the game world is "real" and that in turn facilitates immersion, which is what most people play the gta games for

that the missions are actually designed to introduce you to every part of los santos.

there's terrifically little duplication of locations on missions.

LS isn't actually that big, but it feels bigger because you're rarely in the same place twice

as a person who took two years to play through GTA IV, running through the missions asap and playing gta v is clearly the way this game is meant to be played, so you can get ready for online.

Good acceleration and handles pretty nicely at top speeds from what I remember. And it's quiet as a church mouse. I parked it in Michael's garage sometime ago. I think it's called the Volt, but I think I'm wrong.

I got a Vacca (lamborghini) with metallic paint in my garage too.

I saw on YouTube that you can make $$$ by stealing cars and selling them at the Los Santos Auto Shop. However, I could not do it last night. I wonder if Rockstar's latest update eliminated the option to do so. Those Baller SUVs sell for 9K.

I screwed up the name; the name of the electric car is the Coil. I think the Volt is that name of an actual true to life electric car. I almost 90% certain I parked it in Michael's house garage, which appears to have been a mistake because I went to look for it after typing out my message and it's gone. I'll have to see if I can get it when I play the game again later in the week.

Also, are you referring to the car crushing plant or an actual auto repair shop in the game? I bought the former last night and couldn't figure out how to actually crush cars to get back money. I turned the game off shortly afterwards because my time was limited.

No, I'm referring to the Los Santos auto shop. There are a number of YouTube vids in which the player steals a car, takes it to the shop and sells the car. I'm not sure if its only through GTA Online or not because I havent tried online.

Here's the vid

Woah; underwater packages, as in plural? Now you've given me some added reason to want to seriously fire up this game again since beating it.

**SPOLIER WARNING**

Also, while listening to the Joe Rogan podcast, his co-host Brian Redban mentioned on two or three seperate podcasts that Bigfoot is in the game. I halfway don't want to venture into the woods mainly because of laziness and also because I don't want to get eaten by any mountain lions. More than likely I'll hit the woods this weekend out of boredom.

basically, it's a 90% sure bet you are going to ragdoll and die, but it's fun as hell. Take the cable car to the top, go to the observation deck, steal the motorcycle, head east along the trail and start taking out eagles with the air you catch. Dirt biking off road in the back country is fun as hell, until you wreck and get nailed by a mountain lion.

I beat it the first time encountering the mission. I mainly focused on calming my nerves and tried to keep pace with the guy without falling over and tried to pedal fast when I knew the mountain would flatten out.

Out of sheer boredom, I tried to go up Mt. Chilliad with Trevor in what I thought was a reliable SUV and about 4/5's of the way up, the SUV slid down. I switched characters before the SUV got stuck and had to get out of the SUV and get eaten by a mountain lion.

Jewelry heist mission tunnel.

I jumped on the back of a train and just mowed down cars until choppers followed me.

I jumped off the train to avoid a falling chopper and ended up in that tunnel. I didn't have a car so I had to run the whole way, shooting the cops that followed me down. I was running for a good 6-7 minutes until I ended up outside the jewelry store.

i'm out.

After a few tries managed to drive Franklin in and get up the stairs. Got mowed down coming back out, but that was to be expected.

In playing around with it, I blew up one of the cars near the safe house, then ran inside while the cops were coming round the corner. Why did those fools follow me in the house and start shooting? So now I'm mowing cops down in the kitchen with the minigun, causing a 4 star warrent. In the middle of shooting my house to pieces, got sniped by a cop in the chopper shooting through the glass.

This game, man....

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/oct/14/gta-online-rockstar-gamers-offered-cash

Rockstar has just the thing for gamers frustrated by the stuttering debut of its Grand Theft Auto Online mode: $500,000 of in-game cash. The company announced on its Newswire blog on Friday that the 'special stimulus package' would be dropped into the world perhaps as early as this week.

The cash injection will be provided to any purchaser of Grand Theft Auto V who has attempted to play the Online mode during October. Launched at the beginning of the month, the service has been plagued by technical problems, including disappearing player-characters, and unreliable server access. Many gamers have lost thousands of in-game dollars, during the opening weeks.

"In order to keep the current worldwide in-game economy balanced, we will be providing this GTA$ to players via two deposits of $250,000," explained Rockstar on its website. "We will announce specific dates as soon as possible, but are currently hoping to be able to make the first deposit by the end of next week (after we've confirmed that issues causing game progress loss have been fixed) with the second installment to happen by the end of the month. For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet."

There has been controversy over Rockstar's decision to include microtransactions in the Online mode, allowing participants to pay real money for packages of in-game cash. The company insists it has balanced the experience to allow players to quickly earn money through in-game activities such as missions and car thefts. This stimulus package will at least allow microtransaction-adverse players to quickly access some of the upper end purchases, such as apartments and multi-car garages (although players will still have to rank up to unlock fancy-pants guns and vehicle upgrades).

Reactions have, as ever, been mixed. "Great news," wrote one reader of the Rockstar site. "I've stuck with the game even thou (sic) there have been issues but this just shows rock star have listened and shows respect to us gamers. Cheers Rockstar". However, one comment on Time's coverage of the news, complained, "I hate the fact they are giving everybody 500K. this is because i worked for a long time dragging myself through missions to earn enough to buy a 150K apartment and a 155K car... and now everybody even the people still on level 5 and such will be able to buy this stuff and they don't deserve it."

It just goes to show that money can't always buy happiness. But it can buy a desirable residence in Rockford Hills and a new spoiler for your Pfister Comet super car.

because almost everything is locked behind level caps that'll cause you to have nothing to spend your money on for a long, long time anyway. I'm certainly not seeing much I want to cash in on yet at level 20.

When you go downstairs there's a long ass hallway and a little corner you can hide behind. The stairs and the door provide a good chokepoint.

Load up on sticky bombs, grenades, tear gas and armor.

If you blow up enough cops, the dead bodies continue to be on fire. Most of the police that attempt to approach (especially on the stairs) end up running into the flaming bodies, setting themselves on fire.

I got lucky once and saw like 15 cops catch fire in a row. Bae caught me slippin' and one of the NOOSE dudes shot me in the face tho.

i'm out.

I'd imagine the same issue is on the 360.

I mean, I'm having plenty of fun with it, but even after finishing the main game and all I plan to pick up the disc at some point, depending on what happens with the PS4 wishful thinking.

since the 360 download version just came out this week. That would be a damn shame. The thing is I got like $40 already on my 360. So I was like might as well just add another $20 and cop. But I've been trying to hold out for the eventual next gen version.
