... It does come with 1 TB of cloud storage for three years and two USB 2.0 ports. That's good for connecting an ethernet adapter and external hard drive.

I want to see Ubuntu running on this machine.

Having said that, Apple and Microsoft offer products cheaper than this device that outperform it.

It's not like this is the only Chromebook option on the market; it's just a very high end one (where none existed from them before).

Makes sense to me, although I don't follow the laptop market enough to make a judgement on whether or not it's actually worth the cash though.

I could see it for some people.

Especially with the LTE option.

The 1 TB could be very useful.

And there are web apps that can go pretty far for basic productivity (aviary, google's suite of apps, uhm... there are others, right? i'm pretty sure there are)

IF they make a 3rd model it might be.

It's way more expensive than a tablet , a Surface, a netbook, a Windows 7 convertible, yet way slower than a notebook.

The reports of scrolling being choppy isn't a good look.

At least they can track you more closely using Chrome.

They came out with Chromebooks that cost $299, and some people see that price and say "what's the catch? Oh this Chrome OS? Must be a cheap budget OS." and they don't buy it. But if they come out with some premium Chromebooks then maybe some people will see that $299 as more of a value instead of looking at it like something must be wrong with it.

Kinda like Hyundai coming out with the Equus at $60-70k to boost the brand perception which could increase sales of the Sonata at $20k.

You make a valid point though.....
But still, I do wonder if they could have sold this thing a tad under the $1K threshold. I think then they would have definitely had a winner on their hands sales wise.
