Didnt see an offical post yet. Delete this is its a repost.

so yeah I played it last night over a friends house. (he's got the version that leaked on the interwebs last week)Unlocked all the characters. (not Jill & Shua though since they are dlc)
Wow. I am impressed. Graphics are waaaaaaay better than I thought they would be. The still pictures and youtube videos do this game no justice. It needs to be seen played on a big HD flat-screen tv!

The roster does feel a little small compared the MvC2 (only 30 instead of 52). But I must say they do a good job of making each charcter FEEL different instead of just having similar moves. A lot of the play styles are fairly unique. There were a couple balance issues, but not enough to ruin the game IMHO.

Still getting used to the simplified controls. I always felt MvC2's controls were simple enough. And I never played CapvsTets on wii so it feels REALLY weird. Still adjusting to it. All in all though its a solid game. I do hope they continue to expand the roster with more characters via DLC.

Cant wait to cop mines next week!

...i.e. not on game day.

but on the real, TvC's only failing was that it was on the damn Wii. I didn't like the 3-attack button + assist control scheme that they seem to have taken to MvC2, but they made up for it with some of the crazy systems. That game is going to be ground up and spat out for the next few years. I liked that game, but it could be tough when you faced someone whose Baroque game was unfadeable...

I'm just not a fan of the dumbed down button configuration and air combo land on the ground super. From all the videos I've seen I've never seen a tech roll, every video I've seen basically has made it unsafe to be on the ground

we ran that in a piff filled room from 9pm till 2am (at least thats when i bounced, other homies were going hard on the rum and still playing lol)

my official squad that i'll run with from now on is:

aside from the button-mashing gameplay (takes getting used to after countless hours of SSF4 and HDR) the game is pretty ill

i got a handle on those combos, knowing when to counter, bring in assists etc. still a bit too button-mashy for me but i see the appeal and am down to run this game

what blew me away was the graphics. smooth as hell animations, each character has their own signature shit. deadpool is fuckin hillarious. the background scenes are INSANELY detailed (fuckin jet/spaceship dogfights in the background AND fly bys??)). There's so much going on at the same time, but it adds to the fun.

even tho im a SF fan, i love how they SHIT on SF characters in this game, especially Ryu.

Gun attacks go through fireballs on this sarcastic tip like 'yea.. u threw some energy ball.. i have a gun idiot'
- this is even clearer in a Deadpool vs Ryu match-up, where Deadpool straight jacked his dragon punch and exposed it for how lame it is and doesnt belong in a VS environment (obviously in SF, dragon punches are key, but so ineffective in MvC3)

just some random notes, definitely gonna play it more.. we took a break and ran some HDR and its a WORLD of difference.. like 'oh shit this is wayyyy more technical'

d/l version means no online tho so its really gonna be up to me and the homies to destroy each other in order to get good enough to play some of the dudes that buy the game and get crazy online practice

Out of nowhere I found myself watching the tourney streams last year and very little of that had to do with Wong or Daigo, lol. When Gamerbee, Vangief and others came out of the woodwork with characters that were considered shitty and started taking kids lunch money, that was great fucking television.

Watching a Diago Ryu vs Rufus Wong is great played and executed, but ultimately boring.

If they care about the 'scene' so much, they should welcome some of these changes especially considering at a high tourney level execution didn't matter(since they could all do those combos in their sleep) but mindgames and smarts.

Pros:
Gorgeous fucking game. The character models move gloriously(lol @Deadpools walks!), the effects are beautiful, and the backgrounds are some of the best Ive seen in a fighting game in recent memory (art direction might not be as creative as Darkstalkers or Guilty Gears, but the detail is off the heezy)

Less Characters, but more options: While there's only 36 (rumored to hit 40 after DLC is said and done), the characters are all distinctly different and pretty fucking nuts. Even with dial a combos and only 4 attack buttons, there is ALOT of depth to the characters. It's a VERY rich game as far as the chars designs and play style are concerned.

Cons:
Rather then tone down the game to prevent only a handful of tourney viable characters like MV2, it seems Capcom amped everything up to ten. Hopefully this plays out in the end since the characters seem extremely deep, but right now certain chars/combinations seem really powerful (Sentinel seems WORSE in MVC3)

Minor cons:
No online spectator mode sucks. Also flipping through the menu's seem a bit slow since it saves every step of the way. The fight against Galactus is set up to be awesome but is ultimately anti-climactic. And while I love the fact that they kept the combo/mission mode from SF4, It would have been nice if they had a bit more fun with the singleplayer component (a survival mode, etc).

Overall: It's a great game with imho a great future. My main beef is it feels like the SF4 series (in particular super) had a bit more polish and I was hoping that would be the minimal bar for Capcom's future fighters as far as features are concerned. I haven't had the balls to go online yet, Ill wait till a few days.

i got 2 teams i'm going to practice with.

dante (jam session assist), amaterasu (cold assist), sentinel (drones assist)
with dante being the point man.

and

wesker(gun assist), storm (whirlwind assist), sentinel (drones assist)
with wesker being the point man.

the only downside is the button layout. i tried to use mvc2's layout but it doesn't fit with the game. i've never played tvc, so it's gonna take me a minute to get adjusted.

There were some great matches during that tourney. Justin's Wolverine was too much. Once he caught you slipping it was a fucking wrap.

Nothing beat Floe fucking with Marn all night, though.

but that's just my preference.

SSF4's depth of technique and strategy is rewarding. you pull an epic combo off and you feel you earned that shit.

MvC3 is like cereal and Saturday morning cartoons, though. almost literally. just a straight up adrenaline kick and a constant stream of brainwashy stimulation. it's easier to pick up and play and just enjoy than Super 4, but it's also easier to get burned out on.

the question is, is MvC3 better than TvC or MvC2 or CvS2?

My beef are the extras and polish where a game like this should shine.. this is gonna be Capcom's biggest release this year it's a bit annoying that it seems we took steps back from SF4 and Tatsunoko. Id rather they had left it in the oven for a couple of months.

The core of the game tho? Im kinda loving that they kinda went like this in the boardroom:

"You know, everyone loved Mags/Sent/Storm in MVC2...so we should base our characters around that. As opposed to balancing everyone, lets just try to make everyone god tier and see what the fuck happens".

It's a different game. It's like it's not super strategic and precise as SF4...but would you really want it to be?

If the game stays as 'brokenfully balanced' as it is six months from now and the characters stay viable, (and if they patch it as opposed to just ripping us off with DLC) I think it's gonna make a run for GOAT.

Out the bat it does a few things that SF4 didn't do (take risks for one, lol)

Regardless of characters, they really are two entirely different types of fighting game, even more so with the control layout they're using now. While the lack of features (especially in the online component) does make it sound like the game was rushed, and there probably is more depth in MvC3 than we can see in the first few days, the two games are fundamentally different from a strategy and game play standpoint. This is why I never got caught up in the VS. series in the arcade

Not to say the game is crap, by any means, For what it is, it's fun as crap, certain character omissions and additions notwithstanding (C. Viper? Really?). And if you are a VS. fan you'll be happy with your air combos, chained ultras, and 85+ hit combos. But if you're looking for the strategy and complexity of SF, just plat SSFIV and call it a day. I for one will probably play both for the next few weeks then revert back to mainly SFIV (in between GT5 and RB3, anyway...)

for some characters if you just do "launcher" and attempt to do the combo, the person won't even stay in the air long enough for you to finish your combo right. Also not feeling how in the corner, you'll whiff if you put too many hits in.

Trying to do Haggar's PIPE MADNESS and I'll miss qcf+S because the inputs don't go in and it'll call in the other character in mid-air.

also, cosign the "SSFIV better" in here. Generally, a main-line SF game doesn't compare to a VS game, esp. from MvC2 forward, but I'm almost thinking this game is more comparable to ... well, other VS games.

Can't really tell which one I like better. TvC was neat, but it was on the Wii. MvC1 had a better button layout. This game is fun, just because of all the "newness". Even Captain America feels different. But I can't really get with some of the consequences of the game system too much.

My fault, I didn't know you meant the team aerial combos. When your opponent hits the Special button, the screen flashes. That's your chance to hit Special plus Forward, Back, or up.
Most people use it to build meter so hitting Special and Down will work 90% of the time.

Sentinel has the highest life with 1.3 million, so yeah this shit hits hard.

I gotta say that anyone getting shook off this is looking at it the wrong way, though. This is a training mode combo where you start the match with 5 full hyper meters. Shit don't work like that in a real match. Plus, if you're using an x-factor and 2 or 3 hypers just to kill off one character, then you're going to be in trouble when the other 2 get in your ass.

and i'm still having trouble with the mechanics. it's not the greatest, but i would be lying if i said it wasn't entertaining. i haven't put many hours into the game (8-10hours tops), but my online wins/loss ratio ain't that bad.

btw, does anyone else have trouble finding matches? i spend more time trying to find matches than playing them.

as far as teams go, i was rocking Dante, Ammy & Sent, but i've decided to drop Dante & Sent for She-Hulk & Wesker or Tron. Ammy though? she's my favorite character in this game. she has a pretty ass hyper, 3 stances, and is the ultimate Sent killer.

has anyone else leveled up their skill since mvc3 dropped? let's get some matches going this week. i'm down to play at 8-9pm PST.

I don't get the vehement x-factor hate btw. While yeah, it kinda sucks how a level 3 xfactored up sent or hulk can take out your whole team when he's down to one...im that dude that has no problem running/flying/teleporting away for 20 seconds until it wears off.

man, I've taken to having Viewtiful Joe (of all characters) in the team for this reason. But I hate the foot, and basically how if you don't watch yourself...you might as well just eat it. What I hate about Sentinel is that he seems to be able to do 2 supers in sequence... with-OUT X-Factor.

man, I hate Sentinel in this game. I didn't think I'd hate him anymore than I did in MvC2, but...he is some BS.

It wasn't so much the use of X-Factor... LOL, I use that since everyone seems to get killed real quick in this game, and I'm oft down to one.

I haven't gotten a chance to do this yet, but Spencer is a BEAST. If I could tighten my game up with him, I could keep Sentinels at bay. But man, he does have a price to pay for the use of that arm.

I'm still mad that he has normals that chip, but I do think the health issue makes him human. With basically every other character you could get 2 or 3 decent combos off and kill them. With Sentinel you needed a good 4 or 5 plus multiple DHCs.
A lot of the people playing him knew they could just recklessly spam his launcher and eat whatever damage. Now that's not the case. I'm actually looking forward to seeing people learn to play a decent Sentinel since that flowchart shit ain't gonna work anymore.

If you hit sentinel, they don't come out.

Also your using Taskmaster who is the anti sentinel. If your able to beat him to the punch (aka start projectile spamming first) you can actually keep him locked down with his arrows (his beam is faster but has a longer recovery time). Shoot them up at an angle, jump up yourself and shoot em down, etc. If you need to get close, superjump and web swing across. When you get close, just bait out the combo everyone loves (medium kick to flame kick launcher)...block then punish.

With the recent nerf a simple combo (low,medium,high) into a super move will leave him 60-70% dead.

might be the key to beating that fuck. I had a dude spamming the missiles at me damn near the entire time until I got close enough to bring in a Tron then Haggar assist and lead pipe the fuck out of that dude.

I'm actually starting to improve on Tron by leaps and bounds but miss still fuck up on her special moves some time. The training mode is very helpful with learning combos but I still think it's not on par with SSFIV's.

Let me know if you want to hop on this weekend and whip me up.

Still too much stuff going on and not enough stuff going on as opposed to SSFIV. Not that I'm surprised or complaining, as I knew what I was getting into. There was a reason I never got into the VS series.

Still fun with the right people, but I'm not sure I'll devote a shitload of time getting really good at it

It will sure move a few more fightsticks though, that's for sure.

It's rumored that they might be holding off on the DLC just to announce a 'Super' version and add it there.

Personally, the way the game is, i don't know if I am necessarily looking for DLC. The two DLC characters kinda sucked (Jill completely, Shuma's fun but not necessarily competitive outside of his assist)...but basics of the game are still kind of annoying (the menu system, online's hit and miss).

And there is also the Phoenix question, which has taken over the community (personally, outside of health regen in XF3 I think she should stay the same).

if they add the characters those tweets were hinting at... I'm back aboard, I tell you what.

also would like to see a damn spectator mode, but considering the issues they've had...

the game seems like they left it open for "fixing" because of when it needed to drop. Think it was you who said it... but console gaming has become the new PC.

But really a revamped online mode along with fixing nagging extras/bugs is all I ask for. Hopefully they hired a few Western interns to help out with this cause the Japanese suck at patching their shit (outside of Polyphony, those dudes did GT5 right)

Honestly, I find the trolling much more entertaining then them actually putting in the character, lol.

Im just hoping they do a better job overall this time around in developing a fully baked product. The Heroes and Heralds mode I am pretty interested in but I am a bit annoyed they didn't have it ready for launch. The extreme timetable hurt them tho, and from what Seth hints at it's mainly because they had to release the update this year cause they are temporarily losing the licensing rights to the characters next year.

It's still bare bones as far as extra's are concerned. Supposedly there is going to be a Heroes & Heralds mode where they divide the cast between good and bad and you can get powerups to fight for the world, but in the attempt to squeeze this bitch out by the holidays it won't make the cut until future free DLC.

Some of the nagging user interface issues they fixed. The online seems to be a BIT better and the spectator mode is solid...unlike the previous version I think ill actually take this online.

The new characters overall are all greatly designed, and I have to give the producer his props. In vanilla they took alot of 'mediocre' characters on paper and made them pretty fun, and this continues the tradition.

Biggest change overall is that it's MUCH harder to build meter, so the days of just chucking full screen plasma anytime you want is pretty much gone. Im assuming it's a nerf to some of the more powerful super characters and to force you to use the aerial exchange combos that build meter since they were heavily avoided in the original version.

If your a fighting game fan, you pretty much know where you stand with this. If your not and you didn't pick up vanilla, id give this a try at 40 bucks, it's great fun even if your just pressing random buttons. If you picked up vanilla and you aren't a fighting game fan, I don't think the upgrade is worth it.

As far as characters that interest me: Dr. Strange reminds me of Phoenix if they made her a regular character

hell, even Ryu became less... vanilla. The "Dog Hadouken" and his other crazy moves are just hilarious.

some of the audio is way off sync for certain win poses. it gets pretty ridiculous at times, with the character's mouth moving and then no audio until five seconds later. i exchanged my disc at the store, and the new copy does the same. anyone else kind experience this?
