"*sigh* The T-Mobile (US) high-end Android watch..."

..of course this assumes the Nexus One is NOT a true option since current plans will have to get murked to cop @ $200 - besides I'm thinking of a small laptop @ $530.

So far we have a low end garminphone running 1.6 ready to launch soon along with the MyTouch Slide which... is actually a nice phone - basically a HTC Legend with a keyboard. Unfortunately they couldn't shove a snapdragon chip in there which would win a 2 year commitment from me.

..so until more info leaks on the potential saviors (Dell Streak 5? Galaxy S?) I'll be playing pattycake with the wall while figuring out how to upgrade this G1 to 2.1 without bricking it.

do carriers use the 2-years to pay the phone manufacturer the difference
btwn the subsidized and unsub. price? or?

does any carrier allow you to buy another smartphone after, say 6-months,
(at a subsidized price) as long as you're sticking with their service?

If I buy that unlocked $500 Nexus One and go to T-Mobile, my monthly bill is still the same as somebody who got it on contract for $200. It only really makes a big deal if you're gonna switch carriers on the reg, and even then, with most of em the equipment won't work anymore anyway (cept for AT&T and T-Mo, but even then you sacrifice 3G).

What's the incentive to buy unsubsidized then?

if you've already agreed to a 2-year contract. exactly how this should
be done or how "practicable" it is, I don't know

---

for the record, if you go no-contract on T-Mobile (aka buy an
unsubsidized phone), then your monthly bill is $10 less. the more
important thing, imo, is that if you happen to have a no-contract
MyTouch and you want an Evo 4G, then you can easily purchase
the Evo 4G without violating your previous contract

-more often, but what we have to understand is that the carriers WANT to sell these phones at full price and if it weren't for the level of competition they would. Remember they charge an early termination fee to cancel your contract which is meant to recoup the loss of selling the hardware to you at a discount. If they discounted you without an extended service guarantee they'd loose ridiculous amounts of money should you for any reason drop or be dropped from their coverage.

Your best bet is make friends with a sales person, then maybe get a "what they pay" discount.

I'm probably wandering off to unicorn land linking all this together but, the Dual Core Snapdragon (feels weird saying that, in an awesome way of course) ish seems to support the HSPA+ ish that T-Mobile is trying to build out. Too easy to figure that HTC is a possible player in them chips being shipped out.

I want to like this phone, but seems like the Motorola joint would be more epicful with pictures while not as fast, still have enough "superphone" speed to keep me happy if I wanted to game or somethin.

...faster then any snapdragon joint out thus far which is nice considerin there's some 3D games I might wanna fiddle around with, just saying the moto joint just >>might<< be good enough to make the choice a hard one since it's possibly up there in "superphone" status too. Either or my anger and bitching of no high-end droids on T-Mob would come to a close when these jawns start touching down

...honestly that'd be THE phone that'd have me content with life for another two year contract. Still tempted to pull trigger on the Galaxy S but it would be a definite sell if a 800mhz dual core joint was shoved out by November. The extra rumor of it running gingerbread by launch would be a bonus tho - something that'd be inevitable anyway being an HTC (and iffy if I was to fux with Samsung)

..with HTC slated to push out Froyo for the OG mt3g it's easy to assume that the Hero would be able to eventually run that if not for Sprint cockblocking. Sammy however with the whole Behold II fiasco is pretty suspect on post-Gingerbread plans (i'll give them benefit of the doubt that they'll push Gingerbread on there @ least). So far only the G1 is scrapped by HTC themselves & that's only due to the seemingly unlikely hood of them coming up with a way to accomidate the larger image of 2.x versions on the small internal storage (of course possible when rooting but even that's risky enough to hard brick)

Good times good times. Disappointed that this won't be the dual core beast i was hoping for but the chip on this should theoretically place it between the current snapdragon crop of phones and the TI OMAP stuff since the GPU is improved from the older Qualcomm chips.

in English, this could be my next phone as it drops right in time for when a nigga's paper will finally be proper enough to finally retire the battle tested G1 (altho the Vibrant for under $100 will continue to be a temptation that hunts me). Altho that "Mytouch HD" will be too tempting to resist IF that is the dual core beast that I'm fiending for but we'll see (I'm sure more info & leaks will come out around the 29th). All in all a great time to be a T-Mobile customer in terms of phone selection is drawing near afterall ^_^

my roommate has the Galaxy S and even though i was lovin the screen i could see myself missing a physical keyboard. Either way I'm probably gonna wait until Nov before upgrading. For one HSPA+ is not available here yet and two my fetti is not right yet. At least I now know what to shoot for this or what ever hits in November.
