for the 1st question, how far have you gotten? are you part of a development group or company or just plowing through it solo/with friends? give details of the apps purpose if u want
the 2nd question is just random. some guy was telling me about installing linux on a gamegear, then installing emulators to run old sega/snes stuff. thats probably basic stuff at this point but i dont have the patience to jump into it

I wrote my own Twitter app but ultimately decided against releasing it. It got to point where it was great for my needs but needed more work than I was willing to put in to make it truly polished.
I'll probably write another app when I come up with something worthwhile.
remember when ppl were asking for an okp iPhone app? I think the objections were that it wouldn't have a large user base and that the boards would change soon. so, it wouldn't be worth it
I don't think money was ever mentioned and I could be wrong, but I can see mofos paying $3 for it as long as it makes the boards easy to use

was open source ... i was going to release my version after i polished it but since i didnt have a android phone at the time i just finished what i could and shelved it until i could debug with hardware. still shelved since i never got the phone. app functioned well in emulator tho.

while we don't offer AdMob type ads the app itself is for the sole purpose of advertising (getting the best price actually)
The good, right now:
- The increased focus on Location Based Services and Advertising (Admob deal, Foursquare) from an investor point of view it's a no brainer to at least spread some money around since all signs point toward an explosion.
- Smartphone adoption rates have proven to be recession proof and expanding at an alarming rate -- they're our main target group since it would keep costs low for notification options (bulk rate SMS are a beast)
- iPad (and it's soon-to-be-released ilk) provide an even bigger audience for LBS
The bad & Ugly
- Apple could shut us the fuck down with their draconian practices and far-from-clear guidelines to apps
- the big boys (Google, Yahoo, Bing) could do something similar (cues up the Moment i Feared) or some version of advertising can become the norm quickly in order to circumvent the dot com, browser wars days of multiple formats.
Either way no company has the type of fucked up pull that Apple does in this space yet and if they become worst at it (without shitloads of developers jumping ship in protest) I could have stressful times ahead.
Sorry to long an answer there but this is something I obsess over on a daily basis.

The mobile market seems like a goldrush to me. You're a brave man. I think it's smart not to get into direct app sales though. I don't see how anyone can make any real money off of direct download sales.

we're only creating a platform for LBA and the app's presentation on both platforms will be the best way to help change customer behavior. We've reviewed (and had the lawyers review) their statement and it's vague but it pertains to non-requested location based ads popping up in non-related apps.
