Odds are in some weird alternative universe where PS2 failed, we would never have blue ray players in our consoles and systems capable of playing a shitload of different movie codec's.

Xbox gets the nod for really hammering in the whole 'play online with a community!' with the console crowd.

The PS2 was incredibly popular, but it didn't do a whole lot other consoles before it hadn't done. The 360 really embraced the online aspect, not just with online multiplayer, but with downloadable content and updates too.

Don't get me wrong, socom was a big step foward for online console gaming, but the 360 made it so almost every game had online gameplay. It's not like I'm trying to give Microsoft credit for creating online gaming, it was a natural progression. If the PS3 had come out first, Sony would probably be getting credit.

Gamers were up on online gaming with socom, but everybody was up on it when the 360 came around. It's not just a part of a game any more, it's a part of gaming as a whole now. I'm not saying they created it, the 360 is just when it blew up.

I mean, multiplayer gaming moved almost entirely online when the 360 came out. It might not be new or better, but it's bigger than it ever was.

Like I said, they didn't make it better, they just made it bigger. When the 360 came around, online became not just a part of an individual game, but of gaming as a whole and that's part of what put them on this list, I imagine.

the ps2 perfected what the previous consoles did BUT it stopped at that (which was fine back then) but when you got online on the ps2 it was for the individual game not the online experience. I remember playing fifa on the ps2 but it was just me playing against a friend not anything else.

The offspring :-D

I was reminiscing with a friend about it just yesterday while I debated on buying the new supposedly mediocre version.

Microsoft did great giving a solid backbone, but things like a clan feature are sorely missed. Especially since they could easily implement it so that your clan is on account and not game level

otherwise i'm sure they'd have done it. same goes for the 100 person friend limit. they MUST know they're shooting themselves in the foot without it, but in the case of the friend limit to keep compatibility with older titles there's just nothing they can do.

so feel free to call me a fanboy etc etc. but I don't think XP comes close to OSX. They're talking out their arses trying to say OSX has changed dramatically over the years. The reality is its been nothing but tweaks. Whereas Microsoft have felt the need to constantly make completely new OS's (mostly because they always knew how superior OSX was).

(waits for attacks from all sides)

It was 10.3 or 10.6 (I can't remember) which was the first I tried. Nevertheless judging which OS was more influential based on how polished the first release was is kinda dumb to me. The main point I was getting at was that OSX in general has guided everyone else in how to do OS's over the past decade. Hell someone in Microsoft basically admitted so not long ago (before getting sacked).
