BioShock Downloads Coming Next Week Patches and new content - including plasmids - are coming to PC and Xbox 360. by Ryan Geddes
November 30, 2007 - A patch and a selection of free downloadable content will be available next week for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of BioShock, developer 2K Games said today.
According to the game's official Cult of Rapture web site, a PC patch and Xbox 360 title update will go live next week, and both will also include additional content. 2K's Elizabeth Tobey told IGN that, among other things, the download will include new plasmids and a change to the game's widescreen field of vision.
A full list of bug fixes and extra content will be posted on the Cult of Rapture site when the patches are ready, 2K said.
In October, BioShock creator Ken Levine told 1up that the game's future downloadable content would likely take the form of combat enhancements or other gameplay additions rather than new levels. Levine has also said number of plasmids were cut from the final game.
i read the news on some other site, and they failed to mention the 'free' part. they just described its contents and that it'll be released next week. and i just skimmed thru this one, since i already knew what it was.
so its free huh... yea i'll download it. I would have PAID for some new levels tho :\
maybe i'll go back to play it again after i'm done with Mass Effect.

me, from the official bioshock post:
"my only complaints are that it's too easy (at least on 'medium') and there's no penalty for dying. the first time i died (lousy spider splicers!) i was actually disappointed that i didn't have to reload or start from a previous checkpoint. i guess it's not a bad thing but it doesn't encourage careful/thoughtful play and imo knocks the immersion factor down a bit"
i know one *could* play more carefully and consciously not make use of the vita chambers but the fact that there's no real penalty for 'dying' is still in your subconscious. imo the threat of 'death' in games is a very good thing. it makes you think and work harder and adds to the immersion
I must be real early in the game or I haven't died yet...oh wait... Yeah that's it I haven't died yet haha (ie I haven't harvested a little sister yet)

low-health situations that were an 'if i die i'll just respawn' afterthought are now TERRIFYING and it's AWESOME. though i seem to be saving a lot more than i used to...
also sonic boom is kind of broken. half damage AND it knocks splicers down? i'm forcing myself not to use it because it's making the game too easy :/
also also the expanded fov is much better. while the original fov created a claustrophobic feeling and in hindsight really added to the immersion it also made you less aware of your surroundings. i'm finding that i'm able to adapt to disadvantageous situations a lot faster because i can see cover or an object to toss at my attacker(s) or a first aid kit, etc. makes for better gameplay imo
