"Windows XP booting issue. HELP"

My aunts computer has windows XP. When you boot the computer after selecting the user the wallpaper shows up. However that's it. You can more the mouse arrow around but no desktop icons appear. The start menu is gone and you can't right click on the desktop.

What should I do to fix this.

P.S. I'm posting from her computer now. I went through Task manager and managed to open a firefox browser to use for answers.
All help is appreciated.

I would make a new user to see if the problem is a profile issue or a system issue.
Odds are something deleted what the windows shell ought to be from the registry. If you aren't scurred of the reg, google windows shell registry and you should get what the registry key is...it should have explore.exe as its value.

Or windows could just be hosed...prob easier to do a system restore.
