be it Wal Mart or Gamestop. I usually buy off Amazon with my discount but they damn near fucked me over for the COD4 release sending that shit out on Friday. I just went and bought a copy at Wal Mart and sent the Amazon copy back.

Hopefully I can find it tomorrow, but if I don't o well. I still gots me that COD4 for any gaming needs right now.

In response to Reply # 0

just based off of screenshots on different sites this looks like its going to be one of the best looking games yet right up there with GoW and COD4. i really can't wait to see it on my big screen.

i have faith that ubisoft created a great game and hopefully they pulled through.

i swear college is about to take a back seat to all these games.

In response to Reply # 0

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/834/834676p1.html

8.0 Presentation
The historical setting is brilliantly recreated. The story is slow-paced and has some uninspired elements.
8.5 Graphics
The world is beautiful except for the pop-in and framerate issues. The animations are top-notch.
7.5 Sound
Every voice actor is fantastic save one -- the lead actor. The ambient noise could have been a lot stronger.
7.5 Gameplay
Go anywhere and kill anyone. These are Creed's strong points. The game gets bogged down in repetitive tasks too often.
7.0 Lasting Appeal
It could take anywhere from 10-15 hours to complete depending on how thoroughly you explore the world. There's no reason to come back for seconds.
7.7
Good OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

it was always a rental in my eyes but with games like cod4, halo3, mass effect, smg, rock band, etc. delivering on all fronts plus adding tons of replay value with either multiplayer or a deep single player campaign, one has little incentive to drop $60 on a game that is only going to offer 12-15 hours of gameplay

and i'm not saying that ac will be bad by any means. i've been interested in this game for a while now but i never saw any replay value in it. the reviews from multiple sources harping on the same issues (abysmal ai, repetitive gameplay) confirms that this is the ultimate rental imo

Obviously most game ratings will vary depending on the person but these reviews range from mediocre to must-have.....and the latter comes from the site I usually trust the most lol. Im kinda torn, I might just cop at BB and then get the price adjustment for 39.99 + 10% on thursday with the offer from Fry's.

Seems like we're getting mixed reviews from all over on this game. It's like all the reviewers are having different takes.
IGN even said "These big open worlds, which are fully interactive, do come at a severe cost on PS3. There is considerable texture pop-in and noticeable framerate issues. Playing back-to-back with the 360 version, it's obvious that Ubisoft did not devote enough resources to the PS3 edition. The framerate is considerably worse, so much so that it begins to affect gameplay in the later levels. You can get through the first two-thirds of Assassin with the framerate being just an annoyance, but it becomes more of an issue for the final third of the missions."

but then Gamespot says "There are few differences between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. PS3 owners are blessed with a slightly more solid frame rate, although the 360 version features a little more contrast in the lighting, so it's pretty much a wash. But regardless of which platform you go with, you'll have an amazing and unforgettable game.

there needs to be some sort of standard on how AI is reviewed.
like you can't expect AI to be smart on easy mode. shit is supposed to be retarded. should be pointed out in reviews.

If that was easy mode, it's really unfair to present it as a problem with the game the way they did.

but the only faults that are consistent with the reviews are

Assassinations get repititive
AI is stupid

and those things don't really bother me because I loved the Hitman series and this reminds me of next gen Hitman to be honest.

its not on online you have to use the link in this post and just print it out, cause its only valid in certain states, but Circuit City does not know that.... I just went in and showed them the ad I printed out and it worked.

Update: Just got done playing the game, so far its pretty cool, I like how when you are in cut scenes you still can control your character. The production value of this game is great, and im glad you get the twist at the beginning of the game, cause if it would have been at the end, people would have been pissed.

this game is dope.

I just finished the 1st assassination before I came to work. I was on my way to New Jeru's before i told myself to put the game down and get money(lol). My thoughts so far:

-The controls don't have that steep learning curve I've been hearing about. While I felt the tutorial was a bit long, I was thankful for it once I got to Damascus and had to evade the guards.

-Killing folks has a satisfying feel to it. That hidden hand blade thing is cool and stealthy. If you go at a guard straight up with the hand blade, he might counter it and slice and dice your ass before you remember how to draw your sword.(at least that happened to me a few times)

-The story drew me in after the 1st pre-level. High production value all around. Each character has personality and they look and sound convincing. The main character sounds a little stale, but I figure assassins are paid to kill not talk.

-The cities are fucking huge not to mention far Far apart. Getting to the top of a viewpoint and scoping the scene never gets old, neither does the hay jump. The visuals are top notch which is the least I expect from this generation. If nothing else it better be pretty, and it is.

Like I said I'm only one assassination in, so I don't have a lot to report on. So far tho, i'm diggin it. It's gonna be this and Mass Effect and maybe 2K8 that take me into Q1 08.

like does this game have replay value where u can just go around and fuck with people and do cool shit randomly?

Monster game, can't knock gameplay at all, very smooth and fluid ..the story is on some quantum leap shit..All thats good but few hours in.. i'm already tired of scaling up the highest points and rescuing innocent civilians.
wtf, i'm waiting for the unpredictable to hit... but, its all repetitive. Still giving it a chance tho.. If it doesn't change it WILL be the most overrated game of 07.

call of duty 4 is still thee game to have in my book, if only for the multiplayer.

Penny-Arcade addresses the bad reviews for Assassins Creed

I want to talk about Assassins Creed but first I need to get something out of the way. I have a lot to say about the game and I want to talk about some of the bad reviews it's getting but I want to make sure everyone understands I'm not saying this because of the comic we did for them. So I'm going to link you to an old set of news posts about Prince of Persia 2. Feel free to read those and come back if you like.

Now I'm going to tell you how advertising on PA works. Every other game site out there takes ads for whatever game they can get. It doesn't matter if it's a pile of crap, if the publisher pays for the spot IGN or Gamespot or whoever will run the ad. That's fine but that's not how we do it and the news posts you just read are part of the reason why.

We were huge fans of the first Prince of Persia game so when Ubi came to us and wanted to run ads for the second we said yes. We had no idea they were going to completely fuck it over. So from then on we started demanding playable copies of games before we'd agree to advertising. No matter how early the build we tell the publishers that unless we can see it played in front of us or play it ourselves we won't run ads for it. Obviously a lot can still go wrong during development but we make the best decisions we can. We do not think of the ads you see on our page as ads. They are recommendations and we try extremely hard to insure that anything we put over there is worth your time. When Prince of Persia 2 came out and we saw that it was crap we said as much on the site. Ads for the game appeared right next to those news posts slamming it. Needless to say Ubi wasn't very happy and Robert got some angry phone calls but our loyalty is to our readers not the people paying the bills. We explained to Ubi that the reason our ads perform better than any other site out there is because our readers trust us and that means we have to admit when something we advertise doesn't turn out as good as we hoped. Obviously they understood because we're still advertising their games but like I said this isn't the way other sites operate. I actually give Ubi a lot of credit for not just telling us to fuck off and buying more ads on IGN and Gamespy with the extra money.

I'm telling you all this because I want you to understand that if Assassins Creed actually was a 7.0 game I'd tell you. I also want you to know that when I tell you it's fucking incredible I'm not bullshitting you because we're running ads for the game.

There are about four or five reviews of the game with scores in the low to mid 7's. I want to cover some of the common complaints these reviewers had in case anyone out there is worried about them.

Many of the reviews say that the ending is bad. Obviously I don't want to give away any spoilers but I will say that the final confrontation was exciting and gratifying. It was an extremely satisfying ending to this chapter of the game. Chapter is the important word here. This is a huge story, probably a trilogy at least. The game does end with a cliff hanger and it certainly sets up the rest of the arc but that's how the first part of any multi part story ends. If Star Wars had ended with Luke jumping into his X-Wing to go take on the Death Star that would be a shitty fucking ending. It doesn't though, Luke destroys it and then we get hints about what's in store for our heroes. I'm telling you right now Altair destroys his Death Star.

I also can't be 100% positive but I'm guessing that some of these reviewers didn't let the credits role. Again, I don't want to spoil anything but wait for the credits to end. Until reviewers start posting their Gamertags along with the review we'll never really be able to tell how much of a game they played. But I'd be willing to bet some of them are missing the "Visions of the Future" achievement. I'm not gonna say why but If you don't have this achievement you can't say jack shit about the ending.

I think the biggest complaint I saw was that the missions become repetitive and boring. I actually didn't understand this complaint at all until just the other day. I had gotten an early copy of the game just like everyone else in the media but I was just playing it for fun. I'd cracked into it over the weekend and when I got into the office on Monday I started seeing these negative reviews. When I saw the low scores I was actually really upset and I wanted to talk about the game here on the site. I wanted to tell everyone that these guys were full of shit. However, since so many of the complaints were based on the ending I wanted to beat it first so I was sure I wasn't missing anything. I attacked the game again but this time with the goal of beating it as fast as I could. I was determined to get a post up on Tuesday and I was pushing through the game as fast as I could. I went from finding every high perch in a district to only getting the ones I needed to advance the story. I stopped saving every citizen and avoided any unnecessary confrontations. The informer missions that I had really enjoyed before, I now avoided because I knew they took too long to complete. I did the bare minimum of missions to progress the story and anything that "hindered" my progress was frustrating. Monday night after skipping over another combat (something I used to really enjoy) I stopped myself. What the fuck was I doing? I wasn't playing the game because I wanted to I was playing it because I had a deadline and I needed to beat it. I stopped immediately and decided I'd write about the game whenever I got around to beating it. I spent another day and a half with it and during that time I hunted for hidden flags and explored the cities again. I came in this morning and finally did beat it but I did it at my own pace and I enjoyed every part of it.

Imagine what an open ended sandbox title must look like to a reviewer especially right now. How many games do they have piling up on their desks? A game like Assassins creed isn't meant to be played under a deadline. You shouldn't be trying to beat it as fast as you can so you can move on to Mass Effect or Mario Galaxy. As soon as I gave myself a deadline all of a sudden I understood all their complaints. It was like a fucking Escher painting. I had put myself in their shoes and suddenly the landscape flipped and I could see games from their perspective. In the end I wasn't angry at them for their bad reviews. I actually just felt bad for them.

That dude didn't address the AI issues a lot of reviewers had problems with, which is what I wanted to see him reflect on (more so than ending/story gripes, which I don't recall was the primary reason for it getting 7's from some reviewers).

I don't know I'm thinking I might pick it up used later next year sometime.....or maybe just rent it because.......

>still, i have to make sure i get Mass Effect first.

^^Exactly^^.

Plus, I still want to pick up CoD 4 sometime around Xmas.

No the AI isn't the best at times, but its not horrible. If you are unsure about the game then you probably made the right choice, because the people who like this game already own it. Most people made up there minds a while ago like "I don't give a fuck" im buying the game.

Its kind of like Shadow of the Colossus, to where either you can get past its technical shortcomings and repetitive nature or you can't and its a deal breaker for you.

Castlevania?
Mario?
Hell I ain't even gonna get into Pac Man, Galaga, or even Space Invaders
COD4 is repetitive if you really look at it. I mean you're basically getting from one checkpoint to another while murking enemies.

Rent it, if you're so inclined, but don't act like games, when you really look at it, are repetitive in nature...

not having played the game i can't say for certain how boring or repetetive those parts are but things like pickpocketing and eavesdropping sound like a real drag. according to some reviews you are forced to engage in these activities in order to get to the cool stuff and you have to do them so often that it kills the vibe

that being said i'm really anxious to play this game because pretty much everything else sounds like a blast

But thats the thing, the AI is not that bad, its only bad when it comes to you killing guards around other guards

Now the AI when it comes to the citizens ITS AMAZING !

And yeah you have to do the same routine before every kill which is

Listen in on some convo's
Pickpocket
Find your target
Kill your target
Escape

and thats not really boring to me and to be quite honest this game was designed to be played through slowly and with patience, and I think thats why some people don't like it.

once you get to a city, the game becomes a lot more fun.

the tutorial and beginning are tedious, but the payoff is worth it. i am in jerusalem and having a ball.

this game definitely has its warts, but if you play past them -- and laugh at the voice acting of Altair -- then it will be fun.

because there is nothing like shanking a prophet in the market for talkin like an asshole.

In response to Reply # 0

i'm on my 5th assassination and apart from a few annoyances i've been enjoying the game a lot more than i though it would

lemme get the bad stuff out of the way:

some of the pre-assassination missions are not fun at all. the informant missions and the interrogations are a total bring down. i can see myself getting really frustrated with having to do those things on my last few assassinations

the ai is pretty bad but i guess it has to be or the game would be stupid hard. sometime when i'm playing i'm really careful and i get totally into the whole 'blade in a crowd' thing but then i have to rescue a citizen aka murder 5 guards in front of a crowd and that takes me right out of it. what's the point of trying to be subtle when you can kill 20 guards in a large open area in front of dozens of witnesses then run away and hide in a haystack and everyone in the city suddenly forgets what just happened? also it seems that guards have cell phones or some kind of hive mind thing because i'll commit an atrocity, run to the other side of the district and some random guard who's totally removed from the situation will attack me. the bad ai isn't game-breaking but it does a good (bad?) job of killing the immersion

----

now the good stuff:

the parkour is absolutely phenomenal. i've never seen animation like this and i'm still impressed by it after a solid 7 hours of play time. the control scheme works very well. very intuitive yet still provides a little challenge with lining up jumps. there's nothing like the feeling of when you get a good string of moves going as you're fleeing a crime scene

the combat is actually really satisfying if a little too easy. also i think it comes up too much and kind of contradicts the whole point of being an assassin. great animations for some of the kills

graphics are astounding. great lighting and shadows. excellent animation. lots of detail on the character models and especially on the buildings. and the cities are HUGE and there's barely any pop-in or slowdown. truly an achievement on a purely technical level. great art design too

the music is very good as well. like all good scores it only makes itself noticeable when it wants. the rest of the time it's just lurking in your subconscious and basically being invisible

voice acting is good i guess. nothing too bad except for the main character and he's just boring. but no performances really stand out on some 'he nailed that character' tip. i really like the multitude of different languages

----

all in all, a VERY good game bordering on amazing

The level of graphical detail, fluidity of character animation, and the engine on this thing ALONE could never garner a rating below a 9. This truly is next gen gaming although it arrived with a few hangups. I have the same complex about it as you did. I would rather be more of a blade in the crowd then to rescue citizens in guard brawls and go on "collect the flag" mission for some guy to tell me that my target is a douchebag. Yea, thanks here's all your flags, bitch. What you use them for is beyond me.

The immersion was THERE and then with those bullshits they suck you out quicker than lipo.

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see them use this same engine to make a true ninja game. Not on some Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi shit running on walls and throwing fireballs and turning invisible or super dull like other ninja games. A ninja game done TRUE justice and not just a giant exageration or a boring snoozefest. This engine would be fucking perfect.

I wonder if this was the feeling reviewers had when they played Battle Arena Toshinden for the first time...

Like if this game didn't have the fancy graphics and animation, would it still be fun?

I get kind of hesitant when people say stuff like the graphics alone make the game a 9, and get reminded of Toshinden (which, incidentally was a Playstation exclusive).

Did you buy the game? What do you think of it?

and use it as an opportunity to grind an ax on the xbox's problems, real or imagined.

I bought it, I'm still in the first city, I like it. I see how the gameplay could get tedious, but seriously, if anyone who plays those grindtastic rpgs complains about this, they should kill themselves.

they obviously put a lot of work into making sure the run/climb anywhere mechanic works, and it shows. th problem is, they didn't go out of their way to give you different things to do within these cities...cuz that probably would take another two years of development

i don't think i'd go that far. i mean although i was a little shook by the reviews at first after the 2nd kill i am definitely enjoying the game. while i agree on that graphics, fluidity, and the sheer joy of outrunning a group of soldiers after a kill are great, there's nothing much else to do. the cities are well detailed and HUGE, but with all the people walking around you don't have any sort of real interaction with them aside from the "save the citizen" missions.

what exactly were you expecting? to be able to speak with every citizen? they exist solely as obstacles and decoration, something that was made clear forever ago when gameplay presentations first started surfacing. i'm not even sure what the hypothetical citizen interaction would consist of beyond them giving out more boring fetch quests or extra assassination missions. the last thing this game (and most games) needs is additional contrived play time stretching missions. 40+ hours of gameplay isn't any good if 1/2 of it consists of hunting down flags or orbs or delivering random objects to random ppl

the actual assassinations are awesome.

but the rest of the game is way too linear considering its an open world game.

everything leading up to each assassination is snoozefest (as ansomble said) and it really does feel like a chore.

I wish they didnt tell me everything I had to do. I would much prefer tailing my target and going about things on my own. For example, say he brings someone into an alley and has a convo.... after he leaves i'd go "interrogate" that dude to see what my target said to him. Thats much better than seeing a marker on my GPS to a random fucking guy who i have to supposedly interrogate.

I just feel its so damn linear that it takes the fun out of it. Plus, some variety in what you have to do before each kill would be nice.

Im still early into the game, so I hope it gets better, but at this point im just hoping they pay attention to user feedback and make the sequel as awesome as we had hoped this one to be.

This game is a huge dissappointment in those respects. I bought into this imagining I would be able to assassinate my targets at any time that I would like, the level of stealth or rambo action being my own choice. Maybe I wanted a clean kill that no one sees and I escape without alarm...? Maybe I wanna run up and kill him as soon as I lay eyes on him and then have all the consequences of impatience flow down on me...? Who the fuck knows? Maybe if I truly did a thorough investigation on my own instead of being hand walked through it like a fucking LeapFrog Interactive game I would be rewarded with more intel on my target or bonus information about other targets if my investigations were thorough or if I "asked the right questions" in an interrogation. The intel you gain from the wackass investigation quests didn't add shit to the assasination. A lot more depth was needed. Looking at it now, I don't even see the point in the focus on rooftop scaling and climbing. Like, what was the point of it beside the fact that you could do it? The focus was much too stressed when it really is minimal to anything you have to really do.

This game is a royal fuckup in many areas to say the least.

they probably would have had a hell of a time working in those long pre-assassination monologues if you could just run up on your target as he's taking a piss in a back alley or whatever

while i'm not a fan of the story i think that they did do the right thing in the way it was told. it would be hard to communicate the target's evil nature through a speech by the master or some bureau dude telling you "he's evil! trust us!" even though i think some of the pre-assassination cutscenes are a little over the top and lacking subtlety they did get the point across

non-linearity in the assassinations definitely would have made for a better game though

This is my final word on AC: You really need to just play it for yourself, its just one of those games, me I love the damn game, could it have been better of course.Just lower your expectations just a little and you will enjoy it.

Crackdown is more fun. I can still go back to Crackdown and enjoy myself if I really felt like it.

Assassin's Creed is an absolutely stunning game art direction wise and technically. The engine for the building climbing is amazing. The fight system is done pretty well.

You wil not enjoy playing this game after the third assassination or so. It LITERALLY is the SAME thing OVER AND OVER. Don't no other fucker in here tell you, "Yea, but I love to stab the beggars" or "Aww WOOTZRS! I threw a knife after I climbed a building!" Take thier perspective as you would a small 6 year old getting geeked over a Disney Interactive game. As in they are somewhat retarded. There is no variation in it. The ENTIRE game is as this:

Get mission.
-Go to City.
-Climb a High Point.
-Find Bureau.
-Get Confirmation for mision.
-Find run of the mill "investigations" that add nothing to the assassination to confirm that your target is teh ghey. You'll need only two.
-Go back to bureau to confirm your target is teh ghey.
-Go to target and listen to monologue cut scene
-Kill target
-Run from guards.
-Go back to bureau.

Of course you can do the 90's era collect-a-completely-pointless-flag or do the completely-pointless-save-a-citizen quests.

The game is a waste man. Save your scratch for Mass Effect.Don't let these fuckers tell you "Don't go in with your expectations high! This game is UBER 733T!" The game is ass. This is fuckin prime time for video games and they fucking dropepd the ball with this garbage.

i don't think you have to lower your expectations to the point of not expecting any kind of pleasure from playing this game but as long you're not expecting a total revolution in gameplay and you understand that this game does have flaws (like every game) you can get 14 hours of enjoyment from it

Since it's one page "look at what ubisoft is trying to do" in the Game Informer like a year and some change ago. Needless to say I'm quite dissappointed. Not because of the outside hype either. From just listening and taking in all that was being presented along the way. It doesn't match.

and both are really fun

i mean there's lots of objective missions that are a bit repetitive in nature but the point is while trying to complete them you're bound to get tangled up in a massive swordfight then a casino royale style chase. or just the hilarity of shanking those fucking beggars that get in your way when you're trying to stay low profile

also it's probably the prettiest console game ever. i mean it just raised the bar in animation astronomically

obviously plot-wise it wasn't exactly Doestoyevsky but it was mad cinematic when you got back to your home village and everything was twilight zonish

when you've assassinated some medieval pirate overlord, skipped from boat to boat along the harbour, onto the city wall and the rooftops beyong, chased by 20 swordsmen and then finally stopping to fight them off 50 ft above the hard cobbled roads, knocking them to their death one by one as they try to surround you, you can't help but love this game

ubisoft's usual lack of imagination still hindered things... there was no need to use the same objective missions constantly... only ONCE did i get to do a timed 'collect the flags' mission where they were all set up to make an interesting parkour course... it was much more fun than pickpocket missions.

if they could sort out the side-quests, and make the cities more interactive (even just small things like music playing from houses and public events etc) the sequel could be one of the best games ever

you found out what happened to all the main characters
you found out who kidnapped you
you found out what happened to the rest of the Assassin's Creed
you found out what the treasure was and what it did and what you've got to do with it

the only unresolved thing is basically that the main character escapes at the end and you don't know what he's going to do, but that's another story

it was a pretty satisfying finale, storywise and gameplaywise

maybe you didn't catch the stuff after the credits or something

i read the girls email and all that, but obviously missed something which gives you access to the laptop in the conference room and in the main lab.

i try accessing them and it says DENIED. what did i miss?

i knew the ending was going to be "bad" after reading the reviews, so i was prepared, but i didnt find much closure with the story. the messages on the floor and walls were just teasers for the next game, unless there was some code in the jibberish i was missing.

Now I have a grasp of things and I see where some reviewers said the missions were repetitive. But, the graphics and killing folk is so rewarding. I love this game. It's basically a free-roaming ancient game but there's more free roaming than I've ever seen. And I just can't get over how real and detailed everything looks.

it's relaxing to take your time through the missions. Mass Effect is just starting to get play but it has to wait in line to this. I agree on the repetitve nature of the missions and they could have changed up some of the locations and pre kill routines but the sheer beauty of it keeps me spellbound. I just turned it off after repeatedly getting my ass kicked by William and would love to figure out how to kill him without getting noticed.

For all the stuff people talked about how the recon missions and shit were pointless, they do give you alot of detail on different ways to kill the marks.

Like for the 4th cat, one of the missions gave me info that one of the party-setter uppers had forgot to take down some scaffolds, which gave me access to a path in which I could attack the merchant cat from the rear. So after duke reveals he is going to kill everyone, I climb up, kill one of the archers, am able to cross the scaffolding to get behind the merchant, and then I have to climb up the palace building, drop down right behind dude (who was talking and now watching from the balcony area), and proceed to give him the patented (and always satisfying) stab in the back. I'm then able to escape cleanly because I can see all the gaurds in the courtyard below me, and proceed accordingly with stealth action. It was an awesome assassination.

I couldn't find the scaffolds in the back, but one of the other investigations mentioned runnig up the statue in the cortyard, so I just wen up that.

finally, after fighting a bunch of guards, the fat guy escaped into the city street,sI was chasing him, came around a corner to find some hooligans I had helped before grabbed him and were holding him down waiting for me.

you know what really pisses me off? The fact that after you collect all the flags, kill the templars, get the viewpoints etc... you get nothing. You 100% the game and essentially get a punch in the groin. I have the PS3 version so get to deal with the game freezing my PS3 and I don't even get those dumb little Xbox Live achievements. Also, you can climb all these crazy things in the game yet you can't climb that wicked castle in the assassin town. Anyone thats played the game knows that thing would be badass to climb. In regards to the ending, its a well known fact that this game is really a trilogy, so the ending isn't gonna be fantastic but it does what it needs to do: set it up for a sequel.

So im chilling in the crowd, waiting for the right moment......duke has already killed two people (the 'whore' and the next guy). I see him turn his back to the crowd to give his lecture, I push past the gaurds, run up to the wooden deck, and stab the mark in the back. I then proceed to make a quick right, go up a ladder, and after about 5-6 seconds of free-running, vanish into one of those roof-top gazebo things. Quiet as kept, I get to the Bureau, mission complete.

It's always a great feeling when your assassination plan works out and you can stab the guy in the back...especially when you are coming off one in which you somewhat fucked up (on the 5th, I got behind him, but when I hit the ground behind him, duke heard me, and we started a duel......thankfully, most of the gaurds were already pre-occupied with a previously killed gaurd who had fallen to his death so it was essentially 1-1 with the mark, killed him, up some ladders, and then across the top of the fort, and cleanly out to the bureau(had already killed all the men on the escape route).

184. "Finished....what an awesome game and experience"
In response to Reply # 0

I took my sweet time with it (probably 15-20 hours over about 3 or so weeks), and just enjoyed every facet of the game. From the graphics, to the beautiful animations, to the storyline, to the side-quests, the great sword fighting, and the excellent assassinations.....just a great fucking time.

The only things that dissapointed me were Altair's voice (no accent and just very stale at times), the complete cliff-hanger ending, and that the last save takes place at a point at which you cant go back into the animus to complete the game 100% (for me, it was collect the remaining flags, defeat the remaining templars left, and complete all the 360 challenges).

But all in all.....just such a fun game. The most unforgettable parts were the assassinations and the informer side-quests where you have to kill a certain amount of gaurds with a time limit (arguably the most fun part of the game imo. Having to scope out the situation, seeing that no other gaurds are around, quickly moving in for the stab, and then just blending back into the crowd....it was the most stealth/ninja like aspect of the game, you just felt so bad-ass lol).

Loved the game.

i noticed that if i didn't play for really long periods at a time the repetitiveness of the game didn't get to me. i took my time over about 3 weeks as well and found that i enjoyed it more as the game progressed. yes there are definitely complaints to be made, but i agree with you on most of the positive points.

I thought the story line was beat, the cutscenes unnecessarily long and boring (I loved mass effect so I have no problem with cutscenes)...if you died you saw the cutscenes all over again...

The contorls could be twitchy at times and it was so damn repetitive. I had no care about the story and eventually only half listened by the end of the kills. Those Shakespeare type death scenes were annoying during the assassinations.

sneaking up on dudes is a blast, and so was throwing the knives besides that...eeh

that 7 they showed on 1up turned out to be the high score...it got a 4.5 and a 6 in the mag.

I think it did, at least. It's not right in front of me.

Some reviewers absolutely loved it and some hated it. Like Gamespot loved it and IGN didn't. I was one of those people who loved it. Seeing this game and playing it on a big widescreen in all it's glory kinda adds to it imo. You feel so immersed in the world. Tho some of the stuff is repetitive, I couldn't put this game down till I finished it. I'm still trying to collect all them damn flags in the game.

Like Mass Effect...I hear that shit is buggy as all hell, so I stayed away from it knowing that shit like that would kill my enjoyment. Most people can get through that.

Doing the same shit over and over is annoying to some folks, but others don't mind (like how a lot of rpgs have tedious fights where you just press A constantly)

a lot of games can be repetitive, hell mass effect...land on a planet, ride around in the maco...every place on the planets looked the same.

It was fun though. I just didn't think the game brought much to the table.

It's already such a beautiful game, but then when you are able to experience it in all its glory....it just adds thta much more to the experience. I was so immersed in the world and shit...for me, it was one of those games where you completely just forget about reality, and you actually feel like you are there with Altair (I compare it to the sensation of reading a really good book or watching a great movie...just completely lose any sense of the present, and are almost transported to whatever setting you are reading about). The cities, the pedestrians, the sound, the animations....it all comes together to provide such ridiculous atmosphere and immersion.

They had been bashing the game since it's underwhelming playable debut at E3...and continued to do so. Im a long-time EGM subscriber (at least 10 years now), and usually side with them, but in this case, their objectivity was already poisoned.

dan hsu sat sat down to play it, before there wasa tutorial, basically told the guy who was showing him how to play to back off because he was a professional, and proceeded to flail through the game, before telling everyone else at egm/1up it sucked at e3.

so, there's that.

It's not like EGM is the only place that didn't like it...I was just suprised that the 7 from 1up was the high score. I always thought they put the middle or low score up on 1up.

Enough people have said it was average that I'll check it out as a rental or at a cheaper price later on.

Shit was striaght badass. I have been just destroying people with hidden blade counters. I love seeing piles of dudes against a wall. Also what are people opinions 360 vs PS3. I have played it on both and visually it seems smoother on PS3, and this is the first game i have experience it on. Also hillarious that the option menu for the 360 still has PS3 icons, first game where PS3 won in my opinion.

It is a really weak end but I guess its setting up a sequal

What's up with the 50 minutes it takes to move between towns. This shit is ridiculous. Why the hell did that have to meticulously model the rural areas?

I'm convinced the shank is the best weapon in the agme. I love shanking muthafuckas. Roll up on an archer and just shank the shit out of him.

That ending sucked. So basically I find out shorty's an Assasin and Des is still locked up. Even with eagle vision this game sucked at the end. I can't read arabic.

They gave me text on a menu at the end to try to sure things up.

The last three Assasinations kicked ass. By kicked ass I mean they were fuckin hard. I fought off 50 guards in Jerusalem only to find out dude was hiding in Arsuf.

I had to fight through a good 285 people in Arsuf to finally kill dude then go PWN the HAIC.

So in summation this game sucked and was not worth $60. The next time I see a 200 reply thread on a game I'm not listening to yall unless it's one of the old faithfuls.

There are no rewards for doing any of this. You don't get to play as Desmond in old times or even a new skin for your character.
