Well, it only took one of the best selling series of the past ten years and a Wii that still can't be found in stores to earn MS first place in September, and even then they just barely squeaked by with 30k more. Hopefully they can keep this momentum going into the Holidays, and hopefully Nintendo's ineptitude with securing enough Gamecubes and duct tape continues.
Imo, it's between them and Sony for who has the best games coming out this holiday, and I'm leaning towards them.
My concern is the fact that the biggest game of the system's history just came out and the thing just barely outsold the Wii. I went and got a PS3 last week, and the guy there was saying Wiis still sell out as soon as they get them.
Not only that, but the 360 is doing horrible outside of the states, while Nintendo is pretty much kicking ass in every region.
If Nintendo really increases production for the holiday, it's going to end up being a massacre...and as much as I like Nintendo, I damn sure don't want them to dominate THAT much. They've proven they can be just as bad as anyone once they take control of a market.

You can see MS trying to grab some of that Wii crowd with the arcade games and more family friendly titles but it might be too little too late for the holiday season.
I have no idea what Sony is doing to compete but I imagine the immense system price is a blocker for offering these cheaper, easier accessible games.
I wonder if the folks at Nintendo have stepped up production for xmas? I honestly don't understand why they haven't flooded the US market by now. The more systems they get out early on, the more games they can sell for the holiday season. What's the deal with their shortages anyway? One would think that they have the easiest of the three systems to mass produce.

the cheapest version of the console STILL cost $30 more than the wii and they still beat it.
they dropped price, released a killer game, and sales jumped. now they gotta keep them up

To be honest with you, I have no idea why the Wii is selling the way it is, but I expect it'll be supply constrained to the point where the 360 could actually outsell it during the holiday season.
I wonder what MS has cooking for 2008 tho, the scene is looking kinda bleak.

I just don't see it happening. I know they have to be stockpiling the things somewhere, and when Mario Galaxy drops we'll probably see a huge surge in sales.
I would like for MS to at least win in the states this holiday.

They're going to probably have the most systems available to go with huge game releases for the rest of the year. I can't see them not dominating every month for the rest of this year. Especially now offering 2 games with the system and possibly releasing the Arcade 360.
I'm just worried that for all the people buying Wiis for Super Paper Mario, Zelda, Wii Sports and Metroid, there are WAYYY more that will pick it up for a new Mario game.
I'd like to see each comany have a 33% market share but the way Nintendo is dominating every territory is making that look less and less likely.

Haze will inevitably be compared to Halo 3 in terms of pure gameplay...thats alot to live up to and with the gameplay vids I've seen so far...the game is just aiight. I don't know how big the fanbase for R&C is.

Sony's sales are actually pretty solid outside the US, and they aren't just a one trick (er, system) pony. PS2 and PSP are both selling great worldwide, and although PS3 isn't doing as good in the US as it is elsewhere, it's not doing *that* bad.
and while I'm far from an expert on Europe, I *think* the part outside the UK is bigger than the part in it sales wise (I honestly am not really sure though, and I could be wrong).

That's not true. PS3 has put up respectable numbers in Japan, and it's outselling 360 10:1 over there.

360 is obviously going to sell more than ps3 this holiday, anyone with half a brain can see it. $400 PS3 will help, but not enough to beat Halo 3.
Everyone says how the PS3 has no games blah blah blah. Im good though, I got enough games to hold me over. GT5, Guitar Hero 3, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted (if lives up to hype), Haze or COD4(kinda tired of fps though), Time Crisis 4, Assassin's Creed, and possibly Simpons.
I haven't even finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma yet. Warhawk still has a ton of replay value, and Skate is the shit. Even though they get no love around here, I still play Motorstorm and Resistance.

and what fps was better than resistance before Halo 3? no way rainbow 6, maybe different strokes, but I can't stand that game. run in the same room 500 times and shoot 2-10 terrorists, snoozefest. At least I got $25 back for it at gamestop. the multiplayer is just about as stale.

Are people still just playing the Wii Sports/Wii Play games? Not that software sales are hurting them cuz they're not. But it'll be interesing to see if Mario Galaxy sells as huge as we think cuz Metroid didn't sell as well as I thought it would given the Wii's install base.

Metroid Prime never sold well compared to a Zelda or a Mario. It will break the 1 million and that's it for Metroid.
Mario Galaxy will sell a 2 mil by year end. It's not going to do Halo numbers because Nintendo won't spend as much to market it. It will do well. As much as I hated N pushing back Smash, it was a wise thing to do. Give Mario more than a month of shine time.
Nintendo claims that they will have 4 times the amount of systems they had last holiday season and they still think it won't be enough.

They didn't promote Metroid for shit, I still don't know why because they have been promoting Smash brothers for like a year, they only did metroid for 1 month and that was the month before it came out.

They know that game is pretty much for the hardcore gamers, and they probably don’t wanna scare the normal Wii-buying person into thinking the machine is a shooter system. The people that want Metroid are gonna get it, and it will eventually be a million seller.

The only really misleading thing is the 13% increase in retail dollars generated...there are three systems where there were two last year, so that should be a given.
I think, at least for 360 and PS3, we're past the day when shitty games will sell well. Anyone spending that kinda cash on a console is gonna read reviews and know what games are worth the money.

Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank are the only games on peoples radar this Christmas is not gonna be a good one for Sony I remember at the top of the year they had the KILLER line up, but one by one ALL of those games fell into 2008.
