becuz its Murphy's Law that the thing is going to have some kinks in software that need to be ironed out, no matter how long they testing the model.

I'd wait at LEAST a year or two to purchase one. Maybe then the price won't be so ridiculous and then I won't be homeless trying to purchase the iphone instead of using the money to help pay my rent

(chicago aint no punk if you in the middle bracket believe dat)

But dayum if I wish I could have one.

Wishful thinkin....

reports start off about how much they're selling that first week or month leak out, then I think they'll get another bump. Plus when their quarter numbers are released, another bum is imminent. But that's just MHO.

From what I understand, & especially with Apple's track record, you NEVER buy the first gen anything...

But I don't really want the phone, I just want an ipod with the slick interface.

Anybody heard anything about their plans to do such a thing?

Someone was telling me they weren't gong to do that, but instead just try to get a higher-capacity flash-based ipod instead.

...that the plan was to offer an iPOD device minus the cell phone features, but that it wouldn't come out until 2008, maybe 2009. I think Apple has plans to run with the iPhone for the rest of 2007 since it's such a hot product. And since they're in the driver's seat with their mp3 players, they can take their sweet time releasing a new iPOD.

That's just what I read, so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

I just wouldn't expect to see a new generation iPOD for a long time.

this is what i'm waiting for as well. not that the phone isn't cool, but it doesn't have enough hard drive space for me to replace my 80g iPod. and i'm certainly not going to get this and still have an iPod. plus i don't want to switch phone companies just to get one.

Made 20 bucks a share. Got out too early.

It will pull back to 110 after the release. The run is waaaaay too fast. Its not going to meet the hype.

This won't be the first time AAPL runs up and then shed off later after the release.

and from the demos, speed and functionality.

So if you don't do a lot of web browsing from your phone but DO to a lot of lower-bandwidth stuff like check email, voice mail, make calls, etc, then it *is* far superior to other phones. I've yet to see a phone UI that I didn't despise in some way or another.

I'm buying it to stunt and play w/ the touch screen tho.

I still don't see how the iphone will suck that much less than every other cellphone (and i don't mean just smartphones, I mean every cellphone on the market).

and without a hardware keyboard, you ain't doing THAT much texting/emailing/typing, period. I don't give ashit what geniuses people think apples engineers are, I just don't think a touchpad keyboard can be made to substitute the feeling of real keys.

at that point, you're left with things like music playing etc., which you know...you've already got an ipod for.

which comes back to web browsing/internet connected apps.

for those, I want my 3G. I want to be able to make calls and stay connected. its vital.
and I'm SURE there will be a 3g version out in less than a year.

also, I can't be a certified apple hater an own an iphone. it just wouldn't work. I already have an ipod that I can't tell anyone about.

I think those little things make a big difference in overall user happiness.

Visual voice mail? Much better than anything else I've seen
Email? Much better than anything else I've seen (full HTML email + a screen big enough to read it comfortably)
I guess making calls is more or less the same, although I did really like their address book navigation.
The google maps app is incredible to me.

Honestly, I am a little skeptical of the touch screen keyboard too, but I was also skeptical when Apple didn't include a 3.5" floppy in the iMac lol. Time will have to tell.

Alright, I got a question then. Me and my friends snowboard a lot, and cell reception ain't that good on the backside of a mountain. Thing is, we get notice of our voicemail at the top, but if we don't realize that til we're back at the bottom, we're out of signal range and we can't listen to it. How come there aren't any phones that will download your voicemail to some onboard memory while it still has the signal, and then, you listen to your voicemail, delete it off the phone, and next time you get a signal, the carrier sees you've deleted your downloaded message, and deletes it from the voicemail account? That seems like it might be a big draw for people who work in areas with spotty reception.

but thats the really the only plus for the phone (granted its a big one). but wouldn't it make more sense to let them fix the bugs (its apple, there will be bugs...) and get the rest of the stuff implemented, like 3G, third party support, etc. before laying down $500+?

im saying for that hefty price tag, you want to make sure its cutting edge, and right now its severely lacking in some key areas where other smartphones are thriving.

it doesnt make sense to buy a 3G smartphone right now?

there is nothing on the immediate horizon that will surpass that as far as speed is concerned.

the only things that you have that are new is shit like Windows Mobile 6 or unique UIs, such as the iPhone.

But from a technical standpoint regard the phone's technology, theres nothing else in the immediate future that will hold weight to your claim (in the mobile arena)

my job is to research new technologies for a living.. i can say for a fact that as mobile tv, streaming video and more multimedia/web services really start to take off, 3G is going to become a necessity.

and there is already evidence of its huge impact by studying other countries (who are more advanced than the US) and its effects on consumers and growth.

but the bottom line is the iPhone has some cool new features, but everyone thinks this is going to revolutionize the industry... and its not.

gps navigation/location apps... im not too sure. i dont think 3g is a must, but def would make it run smoother

You can't "say that for a fact" unless you can predict the future. That's ridiculous.

But yes, when and *if* those technologies take off 3G+ will be necessary. But that day ain't here, and it prooolllly wont be here for a while (despite v-cast or whatever). People don't expect to watch live TV on their phones. Right now, people are content downloading recorded TV and watching it, and for that, nothing is even close to the iPhone.

>and there is already evidence of its huge impact by studying
>other countries (who are more advanced than the US) and its

Things that are big in South Korea aren't necessarily big in the US, the country we live in. We all know their phones all have 12mp cameras and videochat capability, but you know what? They've been much more advanced for YEARS, and that stuff still hasn't made it to the US. If anything, that is evidence against your prediction that mobile tv will be huge in the US. We've known it's possible for a half decade and still haven't stirred up the market forces to get it over here.

>but the bottom line is the iPhone has some cool new features,

Well, it might. If they get the 1% market share they're going for (10MM phones), they're going to get an incredible amount of people used to the idea of owning an all-in-one device, of spending $500+ for a phone, of working without a tactile keyboard, and of highly streamlined and responsive UI on a phone.

Selling 10MM units of a $500 phone will revolutionize the industry. No one else has the balls to put the kind of marketing muscle behind premium phones like Apple is showing.

downloading recorded tv and watching it(different from live mobile tv) = vcast/mobiTV .

which is something im not sure the iphone can even do
or would be worth doing, if it took 30 seconds to download a 70 sec clip

if thats correct, the 1% market share is based on worldwide #s.

worldwide as in, u just said yourself they do have a strong, established market for 3g functionality
ergo, the ipod release in its current state aint that special over there

and if they get 1% market share, im not sure mot/nokia/samsung even blink

Good point actually - I'm sure they'll go 3G before going worldwide. Still, it's not a must-have in the states.

Really, the iPhone might be a catalyst for the change you're predicting.

Oh and Mot/Nokia/Samsung are pretty aware Apple's entering their market lol. 1% would be pretty much incredible, especially for a $500+ phone.

i cant see bank analysts or a 150+ line biz acct IT mgrs

downgrading their 3g speed email/web-browsing device

to instead basically do dialup speeds b/c the handset can hold 500 songs.

>Or for the vast majority of cell phone users.

iphone at this point is shaping up to be more an high-end ipod w/ a phone feature

instead of a high-end phone w/ a ipod feature

It's obviously not geared towards business users. Pretty much nothing Apple makes is geared towards business users. It's not gonna supplant Treos and Blackberrys by Independence Day.

Also the # of cell phone users is >>>>>>>>>>>>>> than the number of "PDA" users, whatever that actually means.

but it wasnt their goal with this phone
maybe they'll do it in the future
but maybe they won't either

they wanted to make a phone that was revolutionary as far as UI goes

-planned to wake up at the asscrack of dawn to wait in line.
-planned to go in to work at noon on the 29th.
-My Verizon contract is scheduled to end in July. Perfect.
I was all set.

Now the only thing that i'm worried about are the rumors that the iPhone wont be insured under Cingular. I know, everything is just speculation but i believe that most, if not all of cingulars PDAs and smartphones are ineligible for the insurance protection plan. If thats the case, there should be some sort of AppleCare option right? RIGHT? Maybe not. People starting to suggest third party insurance alternatives and shit. I find it hard to believe that such an expensive device would have so few insurance options. Then again, I guess thats because I just learned today that a lot of smartphones and pdas are excluded from some carriers protection plans.

Anyway, after all of that, if the phone can't be insured by Cingular, how are you all gonna protect your $600 purchase?

man, look here, i work at an apple store and if the apple care works anything like ipods (which we should assume it will) that means if you have a problem you stop into any apple store and they fix or replace under the warranty.

and if they offer the extended apple care warranty when you cop, get that shit. you will be glad you did...

What are your plans? Early morning line? Or just try later in the day, and hope they're not sold out? Got a hookup, or a waiting list at your store?

I wouldn't mind getting one on launch day, but I don't want to wait in line early in the morning solely because it aint like buying a Wii, where you get in, pay, and get out. You figure it would take at least 15 minutes or each person to sign up for the contract... you might be there for HOURS.

I just got a Moto Q and I like it so far. If my love for the product keeps up, I won't have to pick up an iPhone (despite the fact that it looks cool).

Quick question: which Mini SD should I pick up for my new phone? I am not exactly sure what is and what is not compatible?

Sorry to derail the topic-at-hand.

- No one-touch dialing (two touches at a minimum)
- Vibrate mode is included
- Voice dialing is not mentioned as a feature, though it's not specifically excluded either
- Users can have a voice conversation whilst browsing the web "when WiFi access is available"
- iPhone users will not be able to conduct IM conversations with instant messaging users
- Emailing videos and pictures are a go, MMS is not supported
- MEdia Mail won't be used for ringtone and answertone downloads
- MEdia Net, MobiTV, and Cellular Video are (unsurprisingly) not available for the iPhone
- iTunes will sync iPhone with the Address Book on Macs or Outlook/Outlook Expess on PCs
- No GPS or TeleNav support, sorry Google hopefuls

well not kinda, they really blew me. Hopefully we'll see some more changes before launch date, but damn...

-no MMS supported? WTF??? My 2 year old Motorola E815 can send pictures and videos. Why the fuck can't the iPhone? I was all ready to drop $600 on this thing and now apparently i can't send pictures to my friends unless i use email? Thats ridiculous.

-Also the 'no IM' shit kinda blew me. I mean i guess we all knew that AIM wouldnt be supported but i thought that they would give us an alternative like Adium or some downsized version of iChat to use on the phone. I mean i'm sure that a program will be made for the phone since we now know that developers can incorporate programs with the iPhone, but still.

-3 days ago i was just itching for the 29th to come so i could buy that shit. Now im having second thoughts...$600 for a phone that cant send a damn picture real quick? The fuck is going on? They're slipping.

theyve stripped several of their phones like the e62 and the blackjack, preventing them from sending mms messages as well. after reading about those missing features tho i guess i can safely say ill stick to the e61 (at least until apple and at&t step their game up).

turns out that we will be able to chat with AIM users on our iPhones, using iPhoneChat. Thank god.

The absence of that feature was one of the huge factors that made me think twice about copping

Now all we need is for them to stop bullshitting and support MMS...

I thought Steve made a mistake when he said 6pm was the release time earlier today. But Steve doesn't make mistakes.

"Previously confirmed for a June 29th release, Jobs indicated that it will actually ship at 6pm. Apple has yet to provide specifics on whether the 6pm release will cover all time zones across the US or if it is 6pm PST. Details should become available in the next few days."

Yup. Doesn't make any sense to me either.

Dan Frommer, 06.11.07, 6:00 AM ET

Give Steve Jobs credit: He's managed to get the entire tech community--and much of the rest of the world--talking about a pricey gadget that only a handful have seen or touched.

Apple's iPhone finally goes on sale June 29, and for many potential buyers, the only issue is whether they'll be able to get their hands on one, as it's certain to sell out immediately. But whether you are a music lover, a business e-mail addict, a mobile power-user or just a normal consumer, there are several good reasons to think twice about dropping $500 for the first-generation iPhone.

Will that be enough to slow iPhone sales after the initial rush? There are, after all, plenty of other options for consumers who want a smart phone, which is essentially a high-end phone with the ability to do other functions, like e-mail. Previously just expensive toys for information technology nerds and executives, smart phones are gaining mainstream appeal. Research firm Yankee Group projects that smart phones will grow from 11% of this year's mobile-phone market to about 20% of phone sales in 2010.

In Pictures: Five Reasons To Think Twice About The iPhone
Jobs hopes to pick up 1% of the market by the end of 2008. But consumers are finicky and have options. If Apple's iPhone doesn't stack up, numerous competitors, like Samsung, LG Electronics, Nokia and a host of phones running rival Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform, will be happy to take their business. (Elevation Partners, the private equity firm that has invested in Forbes Media, has announced plans to buy a 25% stake in iPhone competitor Palm).

The iPhone's battery is one example of a feature that could flop. By all indications--Apple is still being mum about almost all details regarding the device--the iPhone's rechargeable battery is sealed inside its case. That's what Apple does already with its iPod devices, presumably to save space. The company says the battery will last up to five hours of talking, watching video and browsing the Internet.

But it's not clear how those claims will measure up in the real world. What happens if you use the phone's wi-fi connection heavily? Or a Bluetooth earpiece? Without a midday charging pit stop, iPhone owners may have to consistently choose between using its Web and multimedia features or saving battery power for phone calls.

Other smart phones have similar battery drawbacks. Palm, for example, says the battery in its newest Treo 755p will last for up to four hours and 12 minutes of talk time. But when that's up, you can easily swap out the Treo battery for a charged replacement. Many people carry a spare, especially while traveling on business. With the iPhone, it seems you may be tethered to a backup-battery accessory, which is far from ideal.

Making matters worse, rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan and can be charged only a finite number of times. This number varies, but Apple says a properly maintained iPod battery--whatever that really means--can retain 80% of its original capacity after 400 full charging cycles. Eventually, it will hold a charge so short that it must be replaced, which could at best mean a trip to an Apple or AT&T store, or at worst, an annoying, mail-in battery replacement service.

The iPhone's stripped-down data features could also provide incentive to wait for a better offer. Apple's boilerplate is that the iPhone is a "revolutionary" device for browsing the Internet on the go. To an extent, it has a point: Apple's Safari is arguably the most powerful mobile Web browser. And the iPhone's large display will surely make surfing the Web more enjoyable and functional than on a tiny Motorola Razr screen.

But for whatever reason, Apple decided not to allow the iPhone to work on AT&T's fastest, "third-generation" (or 3G) wireless network, opting instead for its slower "EDGE" network. The difference is apparent even on a small-screen device browsing scaled-down, mobile-edition Web sites. When you're surfing full-size Web pages, as Apple touts on the iPhone, the slow speeds could be a deal breaker.

During Apple's first-quarter earnings conference call, finance chief Peter Oppenheimer said the company is "very much sold" on the slower network because it is more widespread in the U.S. This is a valid point, sort of. AT&T says it has 3G coverage available in 165 major U.S. metro areas, with dozens more on the way, and EDGE coverage in 13,000 cities and towns. But a 3G device can seamlessly hop between the faster and slower networks. And many of the iPhone's competitors, like the 7-month-old Samsung BlackJack, do just that. So why did Apple skimp?

One reason may be the iPhone's built-in wi-fi capability, meaning it can connect to local hot spots and avoid AT&T's data network altogether. This is much faster than using the cellular Web, but imperfect. Wi-fi access is not as universal as you think, and often it's not free. Spending $10 to use a faster Internet at Starbucks doesn't sound practical on top of a $40-per-month, all-you-can-eat EDGE data plan. You may already have a wi-fi hot spot in your home or office--but chances are, you have a computer there, too, with a screen larger than 3.5 inches.

Then again, wi-fi may be a cool feature if Apple opens the iPhone up to developers to write interesting software like network or peer-to-peer games, on-the-go photo sharing software or any other mobile-friendly apps. Jobs is particularly fond of the iPhone's Google Maps software, which he says "blows away" any previous version, and the iPod music software, which he says is "the best iPod we've ever made." But it's not clear if Apple will let other people write software for the iPhone, at least right away, and that could be a reason to stay away.

For example, if you're looking to check your corporate e-mail with any ease, you may have to wait. It's not clear if the iPhone's e-mail software will initially--or imminently--support "push" e-mail from Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers or Research in Motion BlackBerry servers. Apple has a deal with Yahoo! to support real-time "push" e-mail delivery. But CrackBerry addicts should be iPhone-hesitant, at least until we get more information about compatibility. (RIM did not immediately return a request for comment.) Jobs said recently that Apple is "working to find a way to allow developers to build applications" but that security is a sticking point.

Rabid e-mailers or texters may also be skeptical about the iPhone's keyboard-free design. Jobs dislikes the tiny QWERTY thumb keyboards on many of today's smart phones, with good reason: Typing is slower and less accurate than on a normal, full-sized keyboard.

But it's not apparent that typing on a touchscreen will necessarily be any better. Many BlackBerry users, once familiar with the keyboard, can type without looking. Can you thumb out a text message on an iPhone screen without undivided attention? Will it work in the rain? Or if you're wearing a bandage? Will it scratch, as the iPod screens have been infamous for?

Lastly, one of the most anticipated, unknown iPhone features is its real price tag. We already know that it will cost $500 to $600, depending on storage capacity. But AT&T's contract requirements could easily quadruple that price. To qualify for the lowest pricing on many smart phones, carriers require that you subscribe to an all-you-can-eat data plan for around $40 per month, in addition to a $40-or-more-per-month calling plan.

So much for getting the cheapest calling plan and just using the wi-fi feature for the Internet. Add text messaging and taxes, and you're looking at a bill near $90 per month. Over the two-year contract period, that's more than $2,000.

Businesses manage that expense for executives' BlackBerrys, but will consumers happily pay that much? AT&T says existing customers will get the same deal as new customers switching from Verizon Wireless or Sprint Nextel--but subscribers will have to extend their contract for two more years. Will AT&T offer a version for prepaid service subscribers? Many consumers can justify buying a $500 smart phone/iPod hybrid. But AT&T's service terms could break the deal.

and that shit about the contract price is stupid since every other smartphone has the same pricing.

The other points are mostly valid tho i guess. It's a good point about not being able to keep a spare battery, even though relatively few people do that now. This is maybe the first truly viable all-in-one device, and if I'm on a plane listening to my ipod and I fall asleep, I don't want to lose my ability to make calls by the time I wake up. Hopefully there will be a decent solution for that in the works.

On the other hand, if I'm carrying headphones around, I'm also carrying my iPod, and it's not that big a deal to carry the iPhone & the iPod. Still, it's an issue.

That touchscreen keyboard has me a little nervous but it seems to be pretty smart about knowing what you meant to type and correcting spelling errors in real time from what I've seen.

::which is all the pda's::

sells to the customer for $200-300 wit a 2 yr contract.

phone company sells the phone at a loss, eats the difference (which is why they hate having to replace your phone), makes the $ back on the life of the contract, months and months of ppl goin over their minutes and allat.

apple said they will sell at cost tho, no subsidy, so the $500 iphone, retails in the store for $500. and then add on the contract

not that any of ^^that matters
ppl who buy the phone know its $500 and should expect a typical service contract

from http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/06/18/iphone.battery.ap/index.html

CUPERTINO, California (AP) -- Apple Inc. says its highly anticipated iPhone will have a battery life that supports 8 hours of talk time.

The company said Monday the battery also supports 7 hours of video playback, 6 hours of Internet use, 24 hours of music playback, and it will feature up to 10 days of standby time before requiring a recharge.

When the phone was unveiled in January, Apple said it would support 9 days of standby time.

In another change, the iPhone's touch-sensitive screen will be made out of optical-quality glass, instead of plastic. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the change will create "superior scratch resistance and clarity."

The combo cell phone, media player and wireless Web device will only be sold at stores owned by Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc., which has an exclusive deal to offer service for the device when it goes on sale in the U.S. on June 29.

It will also be available at Apple's Web site.

The iPhone will be available in two configurations, $499 for a 4 gigabyte model and $599 for one with 8 gigabytes of storage.

The game's the same, it just more fierce.

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/AppleIphoneAGameChangerForWirelessIndustry.aspx

Apple's iPhone a 'game changer'

The device initially will be an AT&T exclusive, but rivals are scrambling to offer alternative wireless products and services to withstand the competitive onslaught.

By MarketWatch

While AT&T executives talk confidently about gaining market share in the wireless business after the iPhone is released, skeptical rivals have reserved their fire.

Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel (S, news, msgs) and T-Mobile USA all say they are prepared for the iPhone, but none has offered a clear strategy to combat the introduction of the highly anticipated device.

"I'm not sure it is wise to pick on a particular product and say, 'This is the product that we want to compete head to head with,'" Denny Strigl, Verizon's chief operating officer, said last week. "It does not make a lot of sense to me."

Apple (AAPL, news, msgs) has designated June 29 for the debut of the wireless device, which will work only on AT&T's (T, news, msgs) network. The iPhone is a first-of-its-kind mobile handset based entirely on a touch-screen design and AT&T has repeatedly called the iPhone a "game changer," saying more than 1 million potential customers have made inquiries about the device. Many of them have declined to re-sign annual commitments with their current providers so they'll have a chance to check out the iPhone, AT&T executives say.

"We believe the big shift that will occur is it's going to be an opportunity to take share," John Stankey, AT&T's group president for operations, told investors Tuesday at a Bear Stearns conference.

Certainly AT&T could use a big winner. Although it is the nation's largest mobile operator, with 62.2 million subscribers, Verizon Wireless has been gaining fast.

Verizon Wireless, a joint venture of Verizon Communications (VZ, news, msgs) and Vodafone Group (VOD, news, msgs), has out-gained AT&T by an average of 220,000 customers each quarter since the beginning of 2006. Verizon now has 60.7 million mobile customers.

Verizon also generates higher total revenue from its wireless business than AT&T, and the company's customers spend more: $50.73 per Verizon user compared with $49.21 for AT&T's, according to data from company reports.

Banking on loyalty

Because the iPhone is a data-intensive device -- Web surfing and music playing are two of its most crucial features -- AT&T expects customers who choose the device will spend more each month. Data plans are priced significantly higher than voice-only service.

AT&T executives also figure that iPhone users will prove more loyal, helping the company to cut its annual churn rate of 1.7%.

Churn, a key measure in the wireless business, reflects the percentage of customers who cancel service. Verizon also leads in that category with a 1.08% churn rate.
Rival executives know Apple and its iPhone pose a serious threat. They've even put a positive spin on the device's introduction, saying awareness of the iPhone could create broader consumer demand for handsets that play music or offer speedy connections to the Internet.

"We've been anticipating, as the industry has, the coming of the iPhone," Sprint Chief Executive Gary Forsee acknowledged. Added Strigl: "I think they will have a good product. So I don't deny them that."

The iPhone challenge

Analysts say Apple's newest device could do for the smart phone what its iPod did for digital music. For competitors, that means adapting to a new paradigm.

Cheaper alternatives

Nonetheless, rival operators and handset makers have expressed skepticism about whether the iPhone will truly shake up a wireless market in which the vast majority of consumers pay less than $100 for the handsets they own.

They point to the iPhone's $500 starting price tag and note that consumers would also have to sign up for more-costly monthly plans.

"It's an expensive device," Forsee said. "If the customer is buying that for music, then we're going to be able to provide very significant alternatives to that at a much cheaper price point."

If Forsee's skepticism is misplaced, Sprint Nextel has the most to lose. The company has lost thousands of its best customers over the past year to AT&T and Verizon, and its churn rate remains stubbornly high.

Since the start of 2006, Sprint has added just 3.56 million net customers, most of whom signed up through less profitable wholesale channels or subscribed to its cheaper prepaid service.

In the past three quarters alone, Sprint has lost more than 700,000 highly valued postpaid subscribers -- those on yearly plans who pay their bills at the end of each month.
By contrast, Verizon has added 9.4 million net customers during the same period, almost all of them postpaid subscribers signed up directly by the company. AT&T added 8.3 million net customers.

Even T-Mobile, the nation's fourth biggest wireless operator, has outpaced Sprint by adding 4.3 million net customers over the past five quarters.
Verizon is not immune either, but the company's relatively high consumer-satisfaction rating and the perception that it operates a superior network could mitigate losses over the iPhone.

But just in case the iPhone proves to be a huge hit, Verizon executives are plotting out their response.

"You will see you will see more products from us by year-end, so stay tuned," Strigl said.

you MUST be registered with iTunes to ACTIVATE your phone.

and so it begins...

I bet the only way to transfer audio and video to your phone is gonna be through iTunes, a program i hate dearly and there will be no way around it. Why? They wont allow 3rd party applications. They only want you to do things their way, and that means using their programs only. Most iPod owners download other apps for backing up their devices and transferring back and forth.. well the iPhone wont allow for that since u cant write programs for it.

So is this web apps a real solution? Fuck no because they will only allow you to do what Apple *wants* you to do, limiting the freedom in these apps.

Apple says they will have plenty for any consumer that wants one. But if something unforeseen should happen with manufacturing, i'd love to have a few on ebay. The media hype is increasing and people are talking about camping out. I don't know...

i'm okay with EDGE. I'll miss the tactile feel of the keyboard but can deal with it.

but having switched over to cingular/at&t a couple of weeks ago when my treo died, i planned to trade in for the iphone when it dropped. but honestly, i'm beginning to like the blackberry 8800's push email. it's not nearly as robust as my Treo was but the battery lifeand push mail are great.

any word on push email support for people without yahoo accounts?

I thought about
1) having to carry two ipod...they need to get beyong 8 gig
2) improving the touchscreen so you can easily use two thumbs(notice commercials only have people using one finger...fuck that)
3)Price drop...really the 8 gig should be $400 and the 4 gig $300
4) 3g....Edge is cool but if imma a buy a new phone i want 3g capability

the data plans were gonna be equivalent to what I pay now for a blackberry. I could save 20+ dollars + company discount + plus $50 towards the cell bill, it's a done deal.

..SERO is a better deal. I pay $50/month + taxes for 1200 minutes with unlimited data and text. I just expected the iphone plans to be higher. if the iphone had 3G, i wouldn't mind paying $80/month for 900 minutes + data, but I'm definitely happy with my Treo and SERO for the next couple of years.

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/23/new-details-about-the-iphone/

* The keyboard was simply described as "disappointing". Keyboarding with two thumbs often registers multiple key presses (two or three at a time) resulting in a lot of mistakes. The best way to type is with a single finger (as shown in most of Apple's demos), but two thumbs is supposedly very difficult. After trying it for a number of days our source gave up using their thumbs.

* The text auto-correction only works well for simple words, but doesn't work for proper names. We can only assume this bit will get better with time as Apple fills out its predictive text dictionary.

* "It won't replace a BlackBerry. It's not good for text input. It's just not a business product."

* The touchscreen was said to, in general, require somewhat hard presses to register input, and needs some getting used to.

* In addition to its dock, the iPhone comes packaged with a polishing cloth (the thing's supposedly a fingerprint magnet, no surprise) and the usual smallish power adapter.

* The Bluetooth headset will debut in the $120 range, and will come with its own dock for charging both the phone and the headset. The headset will feature a miniature magnetic charging interface á la MagSafe.

* The Bluetooth headset has a hidden LED and is supposedly a very small and elegant device. Sound quality is said to be "typical". There is no clip; like many headsets you're expected to just let it hang out of your ear, as previously shown.

* The browser "worked well" but page load speeds on EDGE were just as slow as expected. It sounds like 3G users will have a tough run with this.

* Users must scroll through the address book (or use the alphabet-drag on the side) -- one cannot bring up the keyboard and type in a name, as many of us are used to.

* Shocker: YouTube over EDGE didn't work well at all, and will basically necessitate use of WiFi.

impression is a pre-review, meaning i just got my hands on it and messed around shortly, here is what i think so far.

the review comes after u have time to assess everything.

this isnt even iphone related, just in general, thats what impressions mean.

First Look: Test Driving the iPhone
A first look at the most eagerly anticipated gizmo ever.
WEB EXCLUSIVE

by Steven Levy
Newsweek

Updated: 7:49 p.m. ET June 26, 2007

June 26, 2007 - A couple of weeks ago I went to Pittsburgh for what I thought would be a day trip. Since I was headed back that evening, I didn’t take my laptop, but because of thunderstorms across the Eastern Seaboard, my sojourn turned into an overnight stay. So I had an opportunity to give a good workout to something I had received the previous day: a review unit of Apple’s eagerly awaited (boy, that’s an understatement) iPhone.

During my travels and airport delays, I was able to keep up with my e-mail, negotiate my way around the downtown, get tips on the city from an old friend whose number I don’t normally have handy, check the weather conditions in New York and D.C., monitor baseball scores and blogs, listen to an early Neil Young concert and amuse myself with silly YouTube videos and an episode of “Weeds,” all on a single charge before the battery ran down. Now, just about all those things could have been done by devices that are already out on the market. But considering I’d had the iPhone for just a day, and never taken a glance at a manual, it was an impressive introduction. In contrast, I’ve had a Motorola handset for two years and am still baffled at its weird approach to Web browsing and messaging. What’s more, with the exception of learning to type on the iPhone, which requires some concentration, doing all those things on that five-ounce device was fun, in the same way that switching from an old command-line interface to the Macintosh graphical user interface in the mid-1980s was a kick. And when I showed the iPhone to people during that trip and in the days afterward—especially people under 25—the most common reaction was, “I have to have this,” sometimes followed by a quick, if alarmingly reckless, consideration of what might need to be pawned in order to make the purchase.

And there it is: one of the most hyped consumer products ever comes pretty close to justifying the bombast. Apple has a history of using cutting-edge technology, slick design and friendly software to break the common logjam in which our machines have the capability to perform certain tasks, but developers haven’t figured out how to make the experience easy, even pleasurable, for users. That’s one reason why people, especially the tens of millions who love iPods, have been so eagerly awaiting the iPhone. “Everyone we talk to hates their phones—it’s universal,” Steve Jobs told me on a call to my iPhone a couple of days ago. (The control-freaky Apple CEO was just checking up to see how I was doing.) If you’re looking for quibbles, flaws and omissions, you’ll certainly find them in this first version of the iPhone. (I’ll get to these below.) But the bottom line is that the iPhone is a significant leap. It’s a superbly engineered, cleverly designed and imaginatively implemented approach to a problem that no one has cracked to date: merging a phone handset, an Internet navigator and a media player in a package where every component shines, and the features are welcoming rather than foreboding. The iPhone is the rare convergence device where things actually converge.

Well before you turn on the iPhone it’s clear that this is a phone apart. The first difference takes place at the store (you can buy these only at Apple stores or retail outlets of network carrier AT&T, for the wallet-busting sum of $500 or $600, depending on whether you get 4 or 8 gigabytes worth of flash memory). Instead of going through the usual complicated contract signing and credit-vetting ceremony with a fast-talking and slow-processing salesperson, Apple has come up with a startling idea: you simply buy the thing and go home. Then you open up the snugly fit black box—the design blitz at Apple begins with the packaging— and take out the handset. It’s a classic example of the Apple look: slim, shiny and elegant. As it did with MP3 players, Apple has made even its most stylish competitors look like Soviet-issue contraptions. The iPhone has but a single button on the front—its sole function is to return you to the menu. The only other controls are a small sleep-wake switch on the top and a volume meter and ring/vibration switch on the side; they protrude so slightly that you can hardly see them.

Setup is a snap. As with the iPod, the device is a satellite of Apple’s free iTunes software. Plug the iPhone into a computer with your iTunes library (Mac or Windows) and the automatic sync function not only carries over your songs, videos and movies on iTunes library, but also photos, your contacts and calendar items. It also copies your e-mail address book and information onto your phone. This is one of the few phones that easily imports your information from your PC; because this is usually such a painful process, the vast majority of people with mobile phones never get around to moving over all their contact and calendar items. Signing up for phone service is easily handled in a straightforward process through the iTunes store. The only scary part comes when you have to provide a Social Security number to establish your credit, but Apple assures me that the data isn’t retained. Prices are those of the standard AT&T plans, $60, $80 or $100 a month, depending on how many minutes. All the plans include unlimited data for e-mail and Internet. When I went through it I was unable to move my current mobile phone number to the device, but Apple tells me that this will be implemented by the time the phone launches on Friday.

Hit the wake button on top, use your finger to swipe an unlock (the iPhone is otherwise dormant so it won’t accidentally turn on in your pocket and wind up calling the boss or playing a Jay-Z song). When the menu screen appears, you get a first indication of how Apple has cleverly managed to compress tasks best done on a large screen or a full-featured laptop into that tiny piece of silicon real estate. Apple does this in part by implementing a tactile vocabulary full of swipes, pinches, stretches and taps on its vaunted “multi-touch” screen. One of the greatest strengths of the iPhone is its stunning 3.5-inch display, which takes up almost the entire surface of the front, ringed by a halo of chrome. Using sensors, the iPhone can automatically switch from vertical “portrait” orientation to horizontal “landscape” mode, allowing better access to Web pages and the proper orientation to movies. Those tools are utilized in four keynote applications and (so far) 11 other programs included in this launch version. Here’s a partial rundown:

Phone. Did I mention that you can make phone calls with this thing? The iPhone has an excellent implement of state-of-the-art features like integrating contacts with the phone function. Plus, the phone allows you to merge up to five conversations into a conference, and a great feature called Visual Voicemail lets you view on screen all the voice messages left for you to play back in the order you choose. Apple also includes a special version of their white earbuds with a tiny microphone on one wire. Those buds don’t fit my ears well, but there will be plenty of third-party alternatives. I tried the Bluetooth-enabled Jawbone headset, as well as a Shure headphone adapter with a microphone along with its noise-blocking earbuds.

Another nice touch: when the phone is at your cheek, the screen goes dormant. But when you lower the phone to tap in some numbers in a voice mail system, the screen reappears to take in your input. You can also play with other applications while you talk. (One weird effect: if you’ve been using the iPhone a lot it feels warm on your cheek. Not laptop-catch-on-fire hot. But still.) A quibble: Apple offers a range of nice if not show-stopping ring tones, but wouldn’t it have been awesome if the iPhone let you choose snippets of songs in your iTunes library as ringtones?

E-mail. The best thing about the way this handles e-mail is that the message content shows up vividly. It nicely manages JPEGs, HTML and PDFs. (The iPhone can also open Word and Excel attachments, though you can’t edit them.) In short, e-mail looks more like you’re working on a computer than a clunky phone. I had some problems with one of my accounts—sometimes the mail was blocked, other times it wouldn’t send outgoing mail. Apple looked into it and told me that it has something to do with my ISP blocking Port 25. Their engineers suggested a fix and said that this was something that would probably be addressed in an update. Still, this is an explanation someone paying $500 for an e-mail device shouldn’t have to hear. It remains to be seen whether corporate information technology specialists will embrace the iPhone for their users. Because the iPhone has to prove itself as easy to use as RIM’s breakout hit (see my notes on keyboarding below), it’s going to be an uphill climb for Apple to pry the devices away from the Crackberry-heads, even if Blackberry mail is ugly by comparison.

iPod. Jobs calls the iPhone the “best iPod we ever made.” It’s certainly the one that most beautifully displays videos and movies, and it’s fun to turn the iPod sideways and see “cover flow,” the array of album covers already familiar to iTunes users. Also, the new way of navigating—swiping down your song list or fast-browsing by skimming your finger on a vertically arranged alphabet on the right of the screen—is a superior interface. But the best iPod? Workout lovers will want to keep their Nanos and Shuffles for the gym. And heavy music users accustomed to 30 or 80 gigabytes of storage will be unhappy at the limited capacity of the iPhone. (Of the 8 gigs on my iPhone, I now have 669 songs, one three-hour movie, three half-hour television episodes, 361 photos, and a bit of “other,” meaning e-mail and contacts. It’s almost full.) Possibly, those considering an iPhone might be daunted at the idea of having to carry it around in addition to their current iPod. Also, I was disappointed that Apple didn’t implement a way to buy songs or videos on directly from the iPhone—you have to synch them from iTunes on a PC first. What’s the use of having Wi-Fi on an iPod if you can’t go to the iTunes store?

Safari. Web-browsing is where the iPhone leaves competitors in the dust. It does the best job yet of compressing the World Wide Web on a palm-size device. The screen can nicely display an entire Web page, and by dragging, tapping, pinching and stretching your fingers you can zero in on the part of the page you want to read. Web pages you wouldn’t dare go to on other phones are suddenly accessible, though those that require Flash, Windows Media or Real Media formats won’t work. A clear, very readable implementation of bookmarks helps you get to your favorites without typing.

Other Applications. It’s very simple to send SMS text messages with Apple’s custom application—identify the contact and type the message as you do with Apple’s iChat app. It can also get very expensive—simply typing “yo” qualifies as one of the 200 SMS messages that come with your plan. (You can pay for extra texting.) It’s disappointing that Apple didn’t include an instant messaging application for the iPhone that easily lets you use AIM or other services. There are Web workarounds (I used a beta version of Heysan, a mobile instant messaging service) but they are nowhere near as what Apple would have done if it had used its skills to simply port iChat to the iPhone.

On the other hand, Google Maps works wonderfully, taking full advantage of the touch screen, and integrating nicely with the phone function and even your contact list (you can instantly see where your friends live). It will expertly route a trip for you and even clue you in on the traffic density.

The specially formatted YouTube videos work great on Wi-Fi, but can display in a lower quality when you’re not at a hotspot and are using AT&T’s EDGE network. At launch, only a small percentage of the millions of video will have been reformatted to work with the phone. (Fortunately for me, this included a couple of swell Amy Winehouse videos.) The fact is that YouTube without the long tail of hundreds of thousands of videos is barely worth the effort. But Google and Apple promise that by fall the entire collection will be available for iPhone streaming, and that users will be able to fill up every idle moment with unproductive glory.

The calendar works as you’d hope, with a charming odometer-style way of setting the time of appointments. The 2-megapixel camera works decently (though I sometimes hit the shutter unintentionally). It’s easy to send a picture, make it your wallpaper or—this is neat—assign it to a contact. (It would have been nicer to have one-touch posting to Flickr, Facebook, etc.) Photo display is terrific, and using the Photos application you swipe from one picture to the next, and can watch in either vertical or landscape mode. Other programs, like the stock ticker, weather and calculator, are useful and visually pleasing, but not groundbreaking additions.

What about flaws? A lot of people considering the expensive plunge into iPhone-land have stated some specific worries, and two weeks of use has cast some light on these. First is the difficulty of using a virtual keyboard that pops up on the screen when it’s time to enter text. The people at Apple rhapsodize about the intelligent keyboard. Steve Jobs boasted that he’s pretty good at two-thumb typing, and several others at Apple claim that they are just as proficient as a Blackberry power user. So far, I’m nowhere close. It took me a couple of days to get used to hitting the right keys using a single finger. Maybe I’m a spaz, but I’m only beginning to get the hang of two-thumb typing. I am impressed, though, with the iPhone’s ability to correct misspellings, and I’ve had the best results by blasting through despite my mistakes and relying on the intelligence built into the system to correct my errors. That said, I think that for most consumers the keyboard issue may be overblown. People who see smart phones mainly as e-mail devices are a subset of the much broader audience Apple is trying to reach. If you are considering a phone primarily to monitor and reply to mail, you may stick to your Blackberry.

Others were worried that the battery would wear out after a couple hours of use. I found that unless I did a lot of video watching or Web browsing, I could generally last the day, and then charge it overnight. One day I purposely ran the battery down; the iPhone winked out after 14 hours, including six hours of talking, Web-browsing, music-listening and the viewing of an episode of “Weeds.”

One more intractable problem is Apple’s decision to use the slower EDGE data network, as opposed to a faster 3G net. (As partial compensation the iPhone is designed to find the fastest network, especially Wi-Fi hotspots.) The EDGE network actually has two speeds, and when you’re on the slower one, Web pages load up with what feels like dial-up speed.

Another concern is that constant use of fingers on the touch screen will make it mucky. I’ve found that the glass screen cleans easily with a damp cloth or baby wipe. As for wear and tear, I’ve been jamming it in my pocket with keyrings, coins and pens, and so far it’s nearly as good as new.

Apple is already working hard at improving this first version of the iPhone. I think the best way to make it more valuable would be to encourage outside developers to create new uses for it, and Apple has indicated that they are welcoming Web-based applications geared to their new device. But as the Google Maps program shows, the results of a separate client application created for the iPhone can be spectacular, and I think the company will do well to keep those coming. Apple also is taking the unusual accounting step of not logging the revenues of iPhones all at once, but taking it over the length of the contract: it says this will enable it to keep improving the software and adding new applications. So the iPhone you buy now may have many more features and services by the end of your contract.

Bottom line: In a sense, the iPhone has already made its mark. Even those who never buy one will benefit from its advances, as competitors have already taken Apple’s achievements as a wake-up call to improve their own products. But for all its virtues, the iPhone is still a risky venture because it’s yet to be proven that, despite the wow factor, millions of people are ready to pay several hundred dollars more than the going rate for phones—and in some cases, paying even more to bail out of their current mobile contracts. There’s also a potential backlash from those sick of the hype. During our iPhone conversation, however, Jobs professed that he wasn’t concerned about inflated hopes, and certainly not whether he would meet his own projections of 10 million sold in 2008: “I think we’re going to blow away the expectations.”

Certainly all those people lining up to buy iPhones will find their investment worthwhile, if only for the delight they get from dazzling their friends. They will surely appreciate the iPhone’s features and the way they are intertwined to present a unified experience. But in the future—when the iPhone has more applications and offers more performance, with a lower price—buyers will find even more value. So smart consumers may well wait for that day. But meanwhile they can only look with envy as the person sitting next to them to them on the subway, or standing ahead of them in the Whole Foods line, is enjoying the phone that finally fulfills the promise of people-friendly palm-top communication and computing.

call me a "smart consumer" then. i think ima hold out and drool over other people's shoulders at whole foods for awhile. i waited to get an ipod and i was glad i did (my friends with 1st gen ipods all ended up copping subsequent versions).

Speed dial: Apple shares headed to $200

The iPhone is expensive, exclusive and won't solve the world's ills. But Apple will still sell a ton of them, which means $200 is a reasonable target for the company's shares

By Jon Markman

As everyone on the planet knows by now, Apple (AAPL, news, msgs) will release a drug on Friday that cures cancer, fixes broken bones and freshens your breath. No, sorry, I mean the company will release a definitive solution to world peace. No, that's not right either. It has solved the mystery of death, and on Friday it will simultaneously resurrect Albert Einstein, Jimi Hendrix and Princess Diana.

Well, actually, I guess that's not true either. Apple's got something bigger than that in mind. It's going to release a brand-new cell phone, called the iPhone! Which has a built-in camera! And accesses the Web! And has a touch screen!

I know you can just barely contain your excitement. I pretty much feel the same way.

What is all the hype about? I mean, most people who want a cell phone already have a cell phone, and they're locked into multiyear contracts. And having music, the Web and your contacts list in the same device isn't exactly a big whoop either.

I've had them on my Treo for years. There are some pretty cool map, traffic and voice mail features in the iPhone, but there are some problems, too, like the fact that it only works on one wireless carrier's network, is slow on the Web and will end up costing you at least $2,000 over two years once you add the least expensive data service fees to the device.

Getting better all the time
But I guess there's no point in being cynical about the new iPhone. Apple will probably sell at least 1 million of them through the end of this fiscal year in August, and up to 8 million of them in the 2008 fiscal year. After that it really gets interesting, because the 2.0 version of the device is bound to be a lot stronger than what's released on Friday. Already, Apple has promised that the second version will work on faster networks, provide more storage and have a longer battery life. No promises about curing cancer, but perhaps that's in version 3.0.

So, what does the iPhone release on Friday mean to us as investors in Apple? Most of the time, I would advise you to sell a stock into a hype storm like this because the oldest rule in the trading book is to "buy the rumor and sell the news." I recommended the stock back on March 15 in a column, "Apple rolls out a bright iFuture," and it's up a tidy 36% since. You might easily wonder what the point of holding on for more is, especially since the shares have already crested past my original target of $120.

Well, here's the deal. I really hope that you don't think I've just drunk the Kool-Aid over at Cupertino, because I think that not only will the iPhone enjoy one of the most successful launches in consumer product history -- right up there with the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 -- but it will also help take Apple a lot farther down the path toward the Total Convergence Zone in which all of its various product lines combine in powerful ways to create an absolute vortex of cash flow.

What most people probably don't understand is that for all the hoopla about the iPhone, the real ticket to riches over at Apple will continue to be the Macintosh desktop and notebook franchise. According to one analysis, every quarter of a point in market share that the Mac claws away from Hewlett Packard (HPQ, news, msgs), Dell Inc. (DELL, news, msgs) and Lenovo provides another 11 cents in earnings per share to Apple. And the excitement over the iPhone, and the coming new iPod video devices, will almost certainly continue to drive new customers into the Mac ecosystem. After all this time, Apple's share of the PC market is still small, so there is lots of ground that it can make up -- there really is.

The amazing thing with Apple is that it not only has figured out how to generate a mind-blowing amount of free publicity for its new products but it has also blown away analysts' expectations for earnings growth performance for the past two years. In the past five quarters, Apple has beaten expectations by 6.8%, 22.7%, 24%, 46% and 38%. That is a lot considering how well analysts cover this company. Consider that with other large companies, like General Electric (GE, news, msgs), earnings rarely miss consensus by more than a penny or two.

$500 phone, $200 stock
Right now, analysts on average expect Apple to earn $4 in fiscal 2008. Now let's figure that the analysts have blown it again by the average amount that they have been mistaken over the past four quarters, which is 27.5%. So you add 27% to the $4 consensus number to get an estimate that we'll just call $5 to keep it simple. If that's the right number for 2008, then the stock is currently trading for just 23 times our new estimate. That's pretty darned cheap for a company that has been growing at better than 30% for the past few years and is actually on the verge of a whole new product cycle.

If you apply the company's current 37 price-earnings multiple to $5 you get a target of $185. Which is not bad, but then if you are looking out two years, you need to speculate that Apple will grow by another 30% over the next 12 months. So add 30% to $5 to get a 2009 estimate of $6.50. Multiple that by 35 and you get an 18-month target of $240, or double the current price. Shares have doubled in the past year, so that's unlikely but not totally outrageous.

Although that sounds like a lot, and it is a lot, it's a target that only assumes the company's current pace will continue and does not include any possible new devices or product cycles -- or, to be fair, any risks like the potential for a total meltdown in consumer spending. So I'll ratchet down my target, and add more time, to account for any mischief and overheated assumptions out there. Nibble on Apple now for my 18-month target of $200, but add materially if and when it trades down into its 10-month moving average to around $110-$115 over the summer.

At the time of publication, Jon Markman owned shares of Apple, GE, Hewlett-Packard and Dell.

Mayor Waits for IPhone, Then Leaves Line

Jun 29, 4:29 PM (ET)

By RUBINA MADAN

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Mayor John F. Street abruptly ended his wait in line for an iPhone Friday after a passer-by asked him about the city's murder rate.

Street, who showed up outside an AT&T store at 3:30 a.m., left shortly after 22-year-old Larry West asked him, "How can you sit here with 200 murders in the city already?"

Street told him: "I'm doing my job."

Street had planned to stay in line for most of the day, waiting for Apple Inc. (AAPL)'s iPhone to go on sale at 6 p.m. When he left at 11:30 a.m., Street said he planned to return to his spot.

West returned later in the day to protest Street's actions - only to find the mayor still hadn't returned.

"In this climate, at this time in this city, you shouldn't be waiting in line for a phone," West said.

Before the encounter with West, the mayor said he wants the new device because he loves trying out the latest technology. Apple's new handheld would allow him to work some of the day outside the office, he said.

"We don't have to be sitting in City Hall to be conducting city business," he said.
Philadelphia recently had its 200th slaying of the year. Its murder rate is up from last year, the deadliest in nearly a decade.

I called Pentagon City, VA (Washington DC) Apple store around 2PM. I ask if they still had them in stock, they were like yeah we have 'em. I get over there and there is a guard at the door, and a line behind velvet ropes. 1 in 1 out, the Fire Marshall had told them it was too many people in the store. I was like WTF? They are selling them like crazy.

In response to Reply # 144

Apple Online was saying 2-4 weeks to cover their asses. Most orders are shipping by Monday, per the Apple employee I spoke with.

You won't get anything on eBay unless the buyer is MAD uninformed.

yeah i saw a story on the news that said one sold for 60K. There are TONS of fake eBay ads. I can make an ad under one screen name and then buy it under another. Just to get my story on the news. People do crazy shit now that you can buy a computer in Wal Mart

I was a skeptic and, though I have no plans on buying one, it's an AMAZING gadget.

The whole interface and touch-screen (particularly how you use your finger to scroll across a webpage) are mind-blowing.

There are some problems though:

1. Won't be in a constant state of checking your email like a Blackberry does.

2. Keyboard will take a week or two to get good at.

3. You can't download from Itunes from the phone.

4. No IM program or IPhoto

If you're dealing with a high volume of email, you should stick with Blackberry...for now.

154. "Experience in Chitown with Iphone"
In response to Reply # 153

I was at the apple store in chitown last night and was playing with the display. I checked the web browser/internet (same speed as my DWade Sidekick III, checked out the youtube clips (clips kept skipping, could not fully handle the clips), called my lady & my moms (worked fine, but did not sound as loud as I would have liked), checked out the Ipod (looked great, but all the icons for playing songs and videos are small), and my BIGGEST COMPLAINT... the damn keyboard is terrible!!!!! It is too touch sensitive, too inconsistent, too small!!! I hit the letter "k" and it would type "j" or "l" most of the time. I pissed me off.

After all the criticism, the thing looks great and is light! But I will wait next year for the updates and my Tmobile contract to end.

Don't believe the hype...their are no shortages and it sucked that people waited in line....I got to the apple store right before they were closing and they still had plenty in the store...people (alot of foreigners and other folks were buying 4 or 5 of them. Damn!

Another note: I was at Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr's Party last night in Chitown at Joe's on Weed St. and Twista was flashin his new Iphone and flossin for about an hour. The ladies do flock to it or was it because it was Twista?

I think I remember trying it, but keyboard does not get bigger when you turn it sideways! I could be wrong....but, the keyboard is still wack imo.
