Microsoft might be busy extending and building on the Xbox 360's capabilities with Project Natal and all manner of NXE and Live updates, but it sounds like some of their third-party devs think they're running out of headroom -- in an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine, EA senior VP Patrick Soderlund said that "we've maxed out the 360 but we haven't maxed out the PS3." That's an interesting parallel to what Miyamoto was just saying about the Wii, of course, but it doesn't seem like the situation is entirely dire: Soderlund also said that he's "truly impressed" with the 360 and that he "would have a headache" if he were running Sony. Still, that doesn't bode well for Microsoft's planned 10-year 360 lifecycle if it's true -- we'll see if Redmond has something new for us before 2015 after all.
"Talking in the wake of the announcement that EA would be publishing Crysis 2, Yerli said that "The interesting thing is we did run a performance analysis on the PS3 devkit, and you know the funny thing is the occupation on all the CPUs, the Cell and the GPUs, is pretty much – the needle is at the limit."
Here, he was implying that Crysis 2, running on the company's new CryEngine 3 would almost max out the PS3's abilities. "There’s not much more you can do," he added, "and frankly the breakthrough was very recent, and otherwise we would’ve had a compromised strategy on the consoles, which we don’t have now."

Crysis at its release was the most hardware demanding and poorly optimized game out there. People in the PC gaming front use Crysis as a benchmark more so as an actually game to enjoy. If your pc (or laptop) could run crysis then consider yourself an owner of a fantastic gaming rig. As we all know the GPU capabilities of a high end PC trumps what the PS3 and the Xbox360 could put out. However we should note that the PS3 runs on a specially made 8 core CPU (Cell) and the xbox runs on a specially made 3 core CPU. No PC has an 8 core CPU and we are just now seeing Quad cpu's which are more powerful then xbox's cpu
Crysis 2 is being optimized for cross platform release. So it should be more optimized and not require as much GPU power or neither the ps3 or xbox could run it.
Farcry 2 was on the crytek 2 engine and it ran on both system. Crysis 2 should run but yeah it will be maxed out.

360 has hit it's ceiling in what, updating Madden stats? I don't know why anyone is putting any weight in what EA would consider as system limitations since they haven't really been pushing any new ideas or requirements in a while.

and I know how big EA is, but they rinse and repeat things so often it's almost a joke. I mean, bully for them, they get dolts (like me) to pony up for a sports game once a year even though in many instances it could just be DLC or wardrobe packs that are the difference from the previous year. Even games that weren't that good or sold well get sequels with them because of how boring they are; who wants another Army of Two game?
Just sayin', EA is the most "get cozy, get lazy" developer now because of their succesful repeating franchises.

Now that doesn't make Uncharted 2 a better experience than say Halo 3, but from a technical and visual level, the PS3 games are sonning the blue fuck out of the 360 games. It's not even debatable.
Where is the 360's God Of War III? Uncharted 2 and Killzone (please note that I'm ONLY talking about visuals and technical wizardry here)
I know rjcc is simply gonna reply to my question with a lol and no links, no side by side comparisons, no proof that that the 360 is keeping up technically.

so why does every multi-platform game look and run better on the 360 at this point? please see GTA4, Fallout, and Orange Box as examples.
and I know everyone seems to love the graphics in Killzone, but to me they seem bland and dull, which unsurprisingly coincides nicely with the gameplay.
hey, I think Uncharted and God of War 3 look cool and all too, but you really think it's that much different than the stuff coming out on the 360? ummm...ok.

No developer is ever going to admit it but when you build a multiplatform game you'll ALWAYS code it up with the lowest common denominator between the two consoles in mind.
You don't want a situation where the PS3 version runs at 60FPS while the 360 version runs at 15FPS. Thats why the multiplat games look pretty close while the exclusive PS3 titles shit all over the exclusive 360 titles.
But again I stress that this doesn't mean the games themselves are more fun to play, they just happen to be alot more impressive looking for the most part.
Case in point, visually, Killzone 2 is breathtaking, but Halo 3, which looks bland in comparison, is by far much more fun to play.

And we both know there was NOTHING at E3 shown fucking with it on the 360. Not Conviction, not Alan Wake. Nothing. And there's plenty of stuff going on in that game. I don't really want to play the screenshots game here in High Tech because this isn't neogaf, but the screens and playthroughs are all over the web. It's not debatable. At all.
Having said all that, I do think the Uncharted series in general is a bit wack. It's not my type of game, but visually, it's stunning.

hey - it was pretty, lots of colors, nice, everything, but I felt like only the stuff in the immediate foreground was interactive, sure you can see a whole city off in the distance, but can you run into it assassin's creed style?

And I'll go out on a limb here and say you were on the graphics aren't important bandwagon last gen, when xbox clearly had the upper hand in the graphics department last time around. Just a guess.

Beat Halo 3 on Legendary, played the other 2 in advance to tie in the whole story and realized that they all play the exact same. The graphics were just beefed up from one version to the next. Halo 3 looks so shitty on 1080i

I don't think enough rocks were thrown at this post, seriously.. I Had both, Uncharted was pretty fun but Halo 3...c'mon, i heard theres still like 100k people still online playing that religiously, I wish i hadn't traded my Halo in but as for Uncharted, I couldve rented and beat it, no replay value...Uncharted betta than Halo 3, FOH!
Halo 3 is the best multiplayer game of this generation. Period. Uncharted is just a good 8 hour action/adventure game. No way is Uncharted better than Halo 3. I beat Uncharted on one Sunday its so short. It was fun, but I've had way more fun with Halo 3. And Halo 3 doesn't look bad. There's lots of detail. It just doesn't have all these pretty textures like a lot of other games. But it looks fine to me even scaled in 1080p.

it's like comparing the original xbox with the PS2 imo. Xbox was superior graphics wise with games like Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2, but they didn't necessarily blow PS2's games out of the war. Same thing with PS3 and 360. I've played all the top Ps3 games and nothing is THAT much better than what 360's capable of. I mean Killzone 2 is the best looking game I've ever seen, but it's not light years ahead of Gears of War 2 as folk are making it seem.

Just that PS3 exclusives tend to look noticeably better than 360 exclusives.
To me it's very much like the difference between Gamecube and PS2 or SNES and Genesis.
Not a huge difference by any means, but I can look and say, "oh, that's a PS3 game" pretty easily.
I don't see what the big deal is, personally. Most of us own both systems by now and graphics are pretty secondary, imo. Art style is a whole lot more important, personally when we're talking about visuals. To me Mario Galaxy looks better than a lot of PS3/360 stuff.

seems like a lot of these pretty games on both systems are able to be beaten way too quickly and easily. Like the majority of the releases now are games that last 8 hours at max. I think I may invest in Fallout 3 just to get into some long serious gaming. Its the one game I haven't tried out yet.

thats definitely the reason why any anti-360 posts are made. because a few people think the games are better on 360 right now. ps3 folks are always raving about what's going to happen down the line, and how this games that's going to come out sometime is going to blow xbox out of the water...meanwhile I just get enjoy great games right now. I'm ok with that.

I appreciate all the systems now in some way. My PS3 is getting more and more tick lately now that there are a bunch of games I like to play on it and the multiplats are equal to 360's. I don't get the mud slinging anymore. Both systems serve their purpose to me.
