"im thinkin about equipping the crib with Airtunes...."
Fri Dec-14-07 06:04 PM by dj bee-can

i want to stream my music from my macbook pro setup to 2 seperate home entertainment systems which are not attached to computers. one is in my family room and one is in my living room. my question is can i do this without also having to buy the airport express base station or will airtunes only work with the express router? right now im using a belkin n1 router and would rather not have to change it since several of the computers in the crib use the belkin n1 wireless card (plus im not in the mood to completely rewire my system).

anyone using this setup that can give me some insight?

I use it in my place with the airport express. As far as I know, you have to use the apple router. You select it as an output from a menu in itunes itself, i doubt an off-brand router would show up there.

Also, if you have two stereo setups i think you'd need two routers. There's no way to select which stereo you want to output to, only which base station.

Airport Express to your stereo or powered speakers works great. I stepped it up a notch and used toslink out into a DAC then to my stereo and it was amazing quality sound.

Other options are Squeezebox and Sonos.
