I was thinking earlier, has there been/or is there a greater executive and coach relationship than the one between Spoelstra and Riley?
When Lebron was with the Miami Heat, he wanted Pat Riley to fire Spoelstra in the early part of his first season with the team. The team did not get off to a good start, and there was no chemistry between the big 3 ( lebron, wade, bosh). Lebron asked Riley "Do you ever get the itch to want to make a coaching change?"
Riley told Lebron there will be no coaching change, and that was that.
If it were any other GM or President, and a Mega Superstar player wanted a young coach replaced, it would have happened quicker than a blink of an eye by Barry Allen.....
Now, two championships and years later, Lebron is gone. Wade is gone, and Bosh is gone, but Spoelstra and Riley are still together finding and developing untapped talent, and keeping the Miami Heat competitive year in and year out.
I don't think there is any other coach, other than Kenny Atkinson, who can take a C or B level basketball player and turn him into an all star player. Spoelstra is that dude, for real.
