I see. You’re referring to endorsements. Your original post wasn’t clear. I thought you were referring to earnings from playing tennis.
In regards to endorsements, yes she should be on the same footing as the men.
But not winnings, because the men play more sets and matches.
However, I think the reason Serena does not get endorsements is because she is perceived as controversial. And she brings social justice issues into the tennis circle, and that’s not marketable. It’s the same problem that I have with Colin Kap.
When black players like Jim Brown and Bill Russell were fighting for equality, they did it off the field. They never brought it to the basketball court or football field, because there were no issues there. Hell, Jim Brown used to go on talk shows and have political and social debates with known white racist leaders, and do tons of protesting and marches, but never on the field. The realms are separate. You just can’t yell and scream anywhere. And I think that Hurts Serena the most.
She definitely has been given the angry black woman reputation and stereotype.
