It's an exceptionally talented pair of freshmen.
Of course, the vast majority of teams led by a pair of very talented freshmen have *not* won the title, including several coached by Hall of Fame level coaches. Plenty have flamed out at the Sweet 16.
But for Memphis, right today, looking to get its program back into the upper tier, I'd say any influx of high-level talent is a very good thing. I wouldn't carry Top 5-10 expectations into the season, but there's plenty of upside, certainly the potential for a conference title, and plenty of media coverage will be coming, which can only help Penny's recruiting.
It'll come down to Penny's coaching. Year 1, I thought he overachieved. Year 2, I thought he underachieved, but it was COVID year. Year 3, I thought he underachieved all year, but then they won the NIT (granted, an NIT in which a number of the best possible NIT teams chose to sit out the postseason, but still). So we'll see what he does with all the talent. My movies: http://russellhainline.com My movie reviews: https://letterboxd.com/RussellHFilm/ My beer TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thebeertravelguide
