The league's interest, viewership and merchandising, is doing fine in NYC with two lump franchises plodding along. Short of allowing player-ownership and starting with a totally clean slate, Dolan/Phil down, there is no way for the league to fix this in the modern free agency era. KD's ego is the only thing that could swing things a bit and even then, under current management, do you trust them to build anything adequate around him?
