Whether you believe his title of “home run king” to be legitimate or not, with 762 career dingers over a 22-year career it’s undeniable that Barry Bonds knows a thing or two about the big fly.
Bonds is currently the hitting coach of the Miami Marlins and his prolific career achievements at the plate should go a long way to helping out the young talent on Miami’s roster.
But giving advice and actually showing it firsthand are completely different things, unless you’re Bonds that is.
According to South Florida-based SiriusXM fantasy baseball host Craig Mish, the 51-year-old was raking during a batting practice home run derby, dusting all comers, including Marlins superstar Giancarlo Stanton.
To put this into perspective, Bonds, a man in his 50s, beat a roster mostly of 20- and 30-year-olds, including a big-time slugger in Stanton who hit 27 bombs last season in just 74 games played.
Needless to say, Bonds was jacked about it all.
Unfortunately, there’s no video evidence as proof of this event so there’s no way to know if this is actually true or not other than to just take Mish’s word for it all.
As a player, Bonds was a 14-time all-star, a seven-time MVP, and a two-time batting champ. His 762 home runs and 2,558 walks are the most all-time.
Bonds was named the Marlins hitting coach in December 2015.
