ATHENS, Ga. — A source close to the UGA football program tells Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein that running back Todd Gurley tore his ACL in Saturday’s game against Auburn and will be out for the rest of the season.
The source told Klein an MRI Sunday morning confirmed the ACL tear.
Gurley, a former Heisman Trophy frontrunner, injured his knee on a 6-yard run with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter against the Tigers Saturday night in Sanford Stadium.
Gurley walked off the field with help from trainers and could be seen sitting on the sideline with ice on his knee.
Several players walked over and spoke to Gurley before he left the field on a cart after the game.
Gurley had just returned from a four-game suspension for allegedly receiving money to sign autographs. He reportedly received $3,000 over the course of two years.
Gurley rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries Saturday before leaving the game.
Channel 2's Zach Klein will have updates on Channel 2 Action News at 6 p.m. and wsbtv.com as this story continues to develop.
