Big Al started the season hurt....sat out for 9 games (so far)...and while no one will deny that he has been beasting lately...he's arguably the 2nd best player on his team. I personally think he's ahead of Kyrie...but a case can be made either way.
Jo started the season off with hopes of a title....then he lost D Rose for the season early...and afterwards Luol Deng was traded away. Thru it all, he has been the heart and soul of his team. HE IS the Bulls' identity. He impacts every area of the game, arguably one of the best passing big men in existence and for every game where he puts up HUGE numbers...he has a game like this last one at San Antonio where he's just everywhere disrupting the flow of the opponent's offense and doing tons of things that don't show up in the box score.
Jo has flirted with triple doubles in roughly 8 games this season. Big Al has flirted with a triple double ONCE.
Add in the fact that Cleveland has 3 potential All-Stars on the floor on any given night (granted Lou is marginal), and with all of that...they are STILL looking up at The Bulls in the standings.
It's not a measure of the numbers. It's a measure of impact. And if anyone deserved the nod this year....over Jo. And yes.....he deserved it at Big Al's expense
