and by here I mean France & Germany
Aubameyang went balls to the wall in his first outing with BvB and scored a hat trick. He's going to end up being the best value signing of this off season, book it. He is definitely underrated but I think that's going to change quick, and I don't see him staying for more than two seasons with Dortmund. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSRsWIpY-SI
in France, Falcao scored for his first official game too. A marauder's goal. I expect him to beast all season, but Monaco's got other guys who are going to impress (James Rodriguez in particular, but also that kid Carrasco who was with them last year already, I think he came out of their academy). As a side note, I'm happy both Monaco and Nantes are back in the league this year, they're two of the teams that have great academies and traditionally provide enjoyable offensive minded futbol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCooeDgdacE&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLS9YRt7PtOaSwsOwfibPsAwgY0w8KKpYc
all the big clubs (the aforementioned Monaco, Lyon, Marseille) except Paris won, pretty impressively at that for Lyon vs a good Nice team http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3pf4-Tbpls&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLS9YRt7PtOaSwsOwfibPsAwgY0w8KKpYc
as you can see, every french (& white) girl's favorite first communion boy Gourcuff had an outstanding game...which is not good in the grand scheme of things, because if he keeps it up that will convince Deschamps to give him play w/the national team, and as usual he won't be able to replicate this kind of effort at the next level. He might be able to land a free kick cracker like this one once in a while, but he will not overpower any elite defender like he did on the 2nd goal to make a dangerous cross. He's basically the french spice boy, except with much less whip and accuracy.
Paris looked very much like they did last year in a draw vs Montpellier (who's got a good squad again, especially Remy Cabella). Blanc is running with the Ancelotti 4-4-2 blue print, with maybe more emphasis on possession (not my favorite trope in futbol, but whatever). Ibrahimovic was fouled on the Montpellier goal, but he went down way too easily for a dude his size. Other than that, he was outstanding all game. Matuidi picked up where he left off (ie being the best transition midfielder in the game, currently). Pastore was good. Lavezzi was useless (#FREEMENEZ). Verratti was maddeningly inconsistent (brilliant at times, awfully careless at others). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6HY9Vh7aAc
