Small ball played to Duke's advantage, for example. Sure, they scored points against Duke, but they allowed Duke to spread the floor and put shooters on at all times-- this isn't the low-scoring, high-efficiency squad we've tried to floor several years of the last decade. We want to shoot a lot and score a lot. When we have to play Amile or Hairston to match up against size, we can't spread the floor nearly as well and we struggle. (We even matched UNC in rebounding, which we had no business doing.) There's no way you guys roll with the Paige/Dex/Bullock/PJ/McAdoo lineup next time... especially if the Kraken is back.
Virginia is a good team to play small ball with, as they couldn't play big anyway and they don't score the ball well at all. Try that shit against big teams or teams with multiple guards that score at a high clip, and it won't work like it did today.
I think it had less to do with the idea of "small ball" and more to do with what looks like a good game from Paige. Compare this game vs. the last time y'all played UVA, and check Paige's relative output. Per usual, Roy's teams depend heavily on point guard play.
