11. "Lamont Paris to South Carolina. " In response to In response to 0
Seems like some Cocks fans are mad it's not BJ McKie, but, um.... huh? Did they *see* Chattanooga this year? Paris is a pretty young coach, he's shown the propensity to attract quality transfers and incorporate them effectively swiftly *to Chattanooga of all places,* and he's been good in game.
Hiring the alum assistant coach from elsewhere is always going to be an option. South Carolina needs to have a strong transfer portal game-- Paris has that. South Carolina will need to figure out ways to win in a conference where they will almost always be out-talented-- this year, Chattanooga beat VCU at VCU, hung with Murray State at Murray State for, like, 37 minutes, and damn near beat the Illini. His teams control tempo, which they'll need to try to do against the Kentuckys and Auburns of the world.
One could argue there's a bit of risk here, because he's only had one truly terrific season, but I like the swing. This is the sort of hire you make if you let Frank Martin go. You can't have a mid-to-late-50s also-ran kinda dude. You have to try to hit it out of the park. We'll see what Paris brings to the table.
