What is the diconnect here? Its all the same. There is literally no roster decision made in the NBA that is not in some way a financial one. And with a small market like Memphis the financial implications are amplified.
These are not fantasy squads. They have real budgets, with real money, and very real cap rules that have to be followed.
Make one good argument, taking into account the important financial, cap-related info, as to how keeping Gay put them in a position to win big? How do they accomplish this with NO cap space and an owner refusing to go into the luxury tax?
