claiming. Not that I expect many people to know this, but he did an extroardinary job in New Hampshire (I know bc I follow CAA football closely as an alum of a CAA school). Overnight, UNH turned into an offensive juggernaut. Jerry Azumah set numerous school and conference records. He won the Walter Payton award and went on to play in the NFL. Chip Kelly helped develop QB Ricky Santos, who again broke numerous passing records. Also, WR David Ball became famous for breaking Jerry Rice's all time I-AA TD record. Chip was/is an absolute mastermind on offense. At UNH and Oregon he immediately made an immediate and significant impact. He scares opposing teams/coaches. Bill Bilicheck, along with several other NFL coaches, have consulted with Chip because they are extremely fascinated with his ideas.
The guy has a remarkable story. He's literally had to hustle for every job he's gotten. He's coached ALL (offensive) positions in addition to being an offensive coordinator/head coach. To me, he's a guy who's extremely driven and determined to succeed. Will he succeed in the NFL? Who knows. It's a tough business. However, I think it's mighty speculative and a bit unfair to label him as a 'gimmicky' coach.
