I stood dazed in the afterthought of you
Romancing another man’s dream
Ignoring my need to be fulfilled
By your warm kisses and playful pillow talk

Our drunken party nights ended w/ u
In creative compromising positions
That allowed me to explore the contours of your body
Tracing the curves of your sun kissed skin w/ dark finger tips

We connected
Like branches to leaves
And like a leaf I fell
So soon after I knew it was over

Lives effected
Affection ignored
Lonely tears abandoned
Closure imminent

I knew I was in love when…
The presence of you was the highlight of my day
Your love-laced text messages kissed my unconsciousness
Leaving the doorway to my heart slightly ajar for your entry

Though, so cautious not to give it all away
We stayed in the game we played
Offering “Olive Juice” over “I Luv U”
I didn’t wanna do it... but I had to

Our game left me standing on the balance beam
w/ my focus on you
Walking that tight rope
W/ slow steps and not looking down

Careful not to fall
And fail in my enduring pursuit of happiness w/ you
B/c if there’s no safety net
How would I know if I would reach “the love below?”
