this was a really difficult watch for me, even as someone who has enjoyed overly long, obtuse Russian movies (Tarkovsky). the cinematography is both amazing and claustrophobic, with a "narrative" that barely exists.
premise is really cool -- scientists travel to another planet that also has humans, but their civilization never progressed past the Middle Ages due to anti-intellectualism (lots of artistic suffering in Mother Russ) -- but at three hours, a lot of tedium for me.
