MCU is starting to look like DCEU, abandoning story telling and character development and instead going for glitz and glamour.
I contend Endgame was aptly named because it signaled the end of the MCU that many had come to know and love. They went against the spirit of their story telling and the essence of what made them a phenomenon. Been beating this drum for 5 years but I'll do it again, but it centers around Black Widow and Hulk.
- Russos had no idea how to handle Hulk and benched him for the biggest brawl ever, and never allowed him for some get-back v. Thanos, even though it was a *different Thanos. He stole the show in the Avengers in just a few scenes. They wasted him.
- Sacrificed one of the more compelling Avengers for one of the least interesting. Barton already had his gimme when Quicksilver saved him in AOU. He had become something else when his family vanished and should have made the sacrifice so that his family only knew the good Clint, not the Ronin. And when the Avengers came together, their checkered pasts were behind them, and they no longer harmed people just for the hell of it. He was allowed to kill with impunity like it never happened. Natasha had much more story to be told. Nevermind it made her standalone movie anti climactic as fuck since you know she was already gonna be dead. I still never watched that shit. They could have still made that Bishop show whether or not Clint survived. Archival footage, etc. Barton just not as good a character as Romanov.
- IF you kill Natasha, to NOT let Bruce go off was criminal. That would justify Hulk nuclear rage, but you can't effectively kill them BOTH.
- The "girl power" scene was corny as fuck and illogical. The most powerful Avenger (outside Wanda) doesn't need lessers to "cover" her. If NATASHA had still been alive, it would have made a lot of sense for them to give her cover to reach some vantage point. Would have been more meaningful.
Tony still could have made ultimate sacrifice. But the journey shoulda looked hella different.
AND AND AND....they coulda been set up for better movies and stories going forward.
It will be hard not to think Tony Stark when watching a Marvel movie and seeing him. Will be recycled as fuck. And bizarre to think they can't get another actor to play the part of someone who will have a mask on much of time...
Sidenote: I also wonder given the footage of Major running away from Jabari, whether he could have been granted redemption like RDJ was at the beginning of all this.
