I liked TLJ as a film itself, but in terms of where it left the story going into Episode 9 there is a TON of heavy lifting this film needs to do. They gotta introduce Palpatine as the big bad of this trilogy with him having not been in the first two films. Return of the Jedi did this successfully, but he was at least discussed and made a short appearance in Empire so he wasn't coming out of nowhere. Plus in Rise of Skywalker they gotta explain how he's back alive, how how his consciousness somehow survived, and they gotta explain what his plan is, and in some way connect that with what Snoke and the First Order had in motion for the first two films.
And they gotta do all of this while also having a compelling arc for Rey, for Kylo Ren, and the rest of the resistance with Finn and Poe. Gotta handle Leia with old footage and have that somehow fit in. On top of all this they need to be closing out the entire Skywalker saga to have some sort of satisfying end in place.
Knowing all of this, and then watching the trailers and realizing that they are still introducing new characters and elements and I'm like whoa - this film needs to be a trilogy in and of itself to somehow work.
