I point this out to illustrate >that, while I don't have a dog in this fight, if I DID, it >would probably be Morrison (gud dog). So I'd like to think I'm >unbiased when I say that Moore is pretty clearly in the right >here, as long as he's not outright lying. >>
I got no dog in the fight either when it comes to who's right/wrong (although I do think Moore's version of events makes the most sense), but as far as my preferred writer, then it's Moore by far. That said, I don't think Morrison's old stuff was aping Moore's work any more than any other writer at that time was. That triple threat of Watchmen, Swamp Thing, and Miracle Man left it's impression on most of the industry, so of course he's going to see shadows of it. As I said before, the funny part is that Morrison's current output seems to be more in-line with Moore's writing than at any point in his career, yet it's the stuff Alan will never see (but seriously, that last issue of Batman Inc was 110% Moore).
>People should leave Alan Moore alone.>>
Like you said, it's pretty easy to dismiss Alan as old an cranky. Now his stance has been consistent for over 15 years so it's not like any of this is a surprise. The recent blowback didn't start until the whole "Newer Super Hero comics suck" quotes started circulating. Once that hit suddenly Civil War became better than Watchmen and all other nonsense. Morrison's been tiptoeing up to that line so prepare to see a similar blowback when that happens. Comic fans go nuclear once you imply that the latest run of Moon Knight that we drop 4 bucks per issue on is most likely a shitty product.
