"2012: One of the best years for film in recent memory."

Now, I haven't seen Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, The Hobbit, Django Unchained, or the Palme D'Or winner from this past year, Amour. I'm also, per usual, shamefully behind on documentaries.

But this year has been terrific.

Just month by month, things that I personally enjoyed the hell out of:

January- The Grey
February- Chronicle, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (nope! It's still good!)
March- 21 Jump Street, The Raid: Redemption
April- The Cabin in the Woods, Bernie, Headhunters
May- The Avengers, Moonrise Kingdom
June- Beasts of the Southern Wild, most of Prometheus
July- ... so July was down for me, but many people will put Spiderman and/or TDKR here
August- Cosmopolis, Paranorman, Lawless
September- The Master, Perks of Being A Wallflower, Looper
October- Holy Motors, Seven Psychopaths, Argo, Cloud Atlas
November- Lincoln, Skyfall, Wreck-It Ralph, Life of Pi

Now, you can obviously squabble about the quality of individual selections on there, or perhaps you'd include one of a number of critically acclaimed features I didn't get around to-- The Turin Horse, Tabu, The Deep Blue Sea, End of Watch, and others...

... but I think, especially if the buzz on these December releases are a reflection of reality, we're looking at an outstanding year for film. Even if there aren't a large number of *classics* this year the way 2007 had, the depth of this year has been enormously satisfying.

Agree? Disagree?
