Yes we are like --><-- in agreement above. I felt that Charlize was genuninely trying to tell Viola, "Girl stop. You know you look damn good" (which Viola does...anyone who says otherwise is a moron. lol!). But, it was misguided given that Viola clearly was speaking more to the fact that even Halle Berry can't get work as a black actress, etc.
THAT was the discussion that was about to go on (and needed to, because it felt like to me watching the roundtable they would have discussed it and GONE IN...because I know all of the panelists (Theron included) have asked similar questions in regard to race in the past related to this issue (Hell, I was hoping Viola would have went off like SHAME director Steve McQueen did when he asked why hollywood doesn't hire black actors or actresses for work and how full of shit it was. The director of the artist agreed with him, but all the WHITE AMERICAN directors were SHOOK. I laughed my ass off cause *NO ONE* wanted to go there. and they should have. Then again, why would they (reitman, payne, etc. the directors who were there) knowing full well they'd have to address their own complicity in this issue also (white privilege is that delusionary veil for real) > >And before anyone wants to jump in and try to argue, no one >here is saying that they don't understand the plight of the >black actress in Hollywood, or that Charlize was completely >"right" or completely "wrong" for what she said... > basically. though, you know folk WILL say that because it's a white women "appearing" to dismiss and downplay a black woman #okayplayerraceandgenderwarzUNITE!
