"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Yates, 2010)"
The tagline for this movie is "Nowhere is safe" when it should be "Everywhere is fucked!" From opening frame Yates places a foreboding sense of danger and darkness. Forget this being a Harry Potter film, this is just a great suspense fugitive story in general. And I must say Daniel Radcliffe finally stepped up to the plate and knocked his performance out of the park. Everyone says that "Half-Blood Prince" is the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series. No THIS is the "ESB" of the series. I can't recall the DP's name but holy shit did he do a good job on lighting and helping Yates establish a mood. The handheld camera work really captures the danger. And I loved the LOTR swooping crane shots they do in a couple of the action scenes. I also loved the scene they added that was not in the book between Harry and Miss Granger. You'll know it when you see it...
I'm telling you guys from opening to closing frame you'll be on the edge of your seat. This is seriously some dark shit...
I feel this is the first Harry Potter film that can be nominated for Oscars...
Yates said that Part 2, which he currently editing, is going to be a big operatic action film. I don't think it's gonna top this shit.
