"OKP Movie Club: Happy-Go-Lucky (Leigh, 2008)"
WIKIPEDIA SUMMARY: "Happy-Go-Lucky is a 2008 British comedy-drama film written and directed by Mike Leigh. The screenplay focuses on an irrepressibly cheerful and infinitely optimistic primary school teacher and her relationships with those around her."
Why this movie?
1. I firmly believe Mike Leigh is an important contemporary filmmaker with a very unique style and a solid number of four-star films under his belt, and is thus worth further examination.
2. This film was slept on by this board last year, and while a small number voted for this film with high marks, it didn't have enough to win anything in the Spilled Lattes. Not only that, it never even had its own post (pretty surprising).
3. It's a feel-good movie. I didn't want to start everyone out with a gloom-and-doom drama. This is a warm and hilarious movie with top-notch acting.
4. It's available via Netflix Instant Queue and should be readily available in most Blockbusters or Hollywood Videos. No excuses, play like a champion.
We'll decide how long we want to make this film the "Movie Club Choice of the Moment" later. For now, seek this out, see if you can squeeze it into your schedule in the next week, and we'll get our discussion on.
