"Writer/Directors with over 3 great films?"

I watch a lot of films but don't know a lot of the credits so wondered how many writer/directors there have been who have been able to sustain creativity for more than 3 films.

M Knight Shyamalan has tried and failed miserably his last few films. Tarantino has been hit and miss. Kevin Smith, another one. Im drawing a blank and John Hughes is the only one I can think of who had more than 3 fims applying the dual role successfully but Im sure there have been more throughout history.
