But he so badly DOESN'T want to be that guy anymore, hence how manic and broken he is in these first two episodes.
Interestingly, Hader is doing post episode breakdowns with Sean Fennessey on The Ringer's Prestige TV podcast feed and he freely let it be known during the first episode that they had enough time between seasons that a decent amount of season 4 is ready for a writer's room final pass already so whatever this season is isn't a climax for his story.
This episode was also really broadly funny (the dogs especially) so I can't see this show ending on as dark a note as Breaking Bad did but it doesn't necessarily feel like Barry is gonna have the happiest ending either.
Hader is also such a true crime/noir nerd that a small part of me wouldn't be surprised if this show eventually became about everybody BUT Barry and Hader went fully behind the camera somehow.
