My issue is with the film's resolution to this line of symbolism. So if he ignores God the whole time... does finding God help him reach his moment of clarity? Does he stop ignoring the signs in that deposition? If he ignores the signs the whole time but reaches his own conclusion based on personal guilt, not the guilt instilled in one by fear of divine retribution, then why have all the religious stuff in the first place unless it's merely to give the illusion of depth?
