It felt listless to me, like it was letting Denzel simply drift along with nothing to do other than drink and repeat his mantra. And Denzel (and Goodman, really) was acting his ass off, and he deserved a better film around him.
I'm all for experimenting with structure, or existing solely in the realm of character study, or just for the fact that an R-rated adult drama happened in the studio system. So I wanted to like it. But most beats felt straight outta Lifetime after the plane crash ended.
It'll all fall on the shoulders of "Was Denzel's performance enough to redeem the whole film for you?" Sadly, I felt if anything it was holding him back.
