THE WEDDING BANQUET (Lee, DVD) - I loved this movie back in the early 90s. Now it seems fairly amateurish. Still heartfelt and enjoyable. Too much overwritten drama. The lead (young Chinese man) sounds like he's delivering his English lines phonetically. Still, it earns a lot of goodwill because of its subject matter.
QUEEN CHRISTINA (Mamoulian, DVD) - An engaging court drama. Garbo carries the film but does not quiet make it a must-see (as Dietrich does in Scarlett Empress). Akim Tamiroff promises of greatness to come.
